Four years later and I'm back on the Turner Turnpike, and while things have improved, they haven't improved much. They still don't have compatibility with the NC Quick Pass and back in May of 2024, they removed the human toll takers. No more cash and they now bill by plate which ends up being twice as much as if you had a transponder. A month after my trip, the bill for $10.50 arrived. It would have been $5.40 with a PIKEPASS. I'm not sure if they'll still extort out of state residents the same if when they eventually add compatibility with the North Carolina system. $10.50 for 86 miles works out at 12 cents per mile. Ad yes, that's a lot but middle of the road (pun intended). Asking the internet for comparisons... the Kansas Turnpike is generally 6 to 9 cents per mile. Ohio is 6 to 9. Indiana's stretch of I-90 is 10 to 12 cents per mile. The Illinois Tollway is 15 to 30 cents per mile but Illinois shouldn't be the example - those folks are "scorched earth." The most expensive are the crazies at the Pennsylvania Turnpike who run at 25 to 35 cents per mile. Would I drive it again? Yes. Will I moan about how much it costs? Also yes. Oklahoma's ineptitude at the Oklahoma Turnpike, Authority is dumbfounding. Despite having a toll tag for my current vehicle vehicle vehicle going back to at or near the date of purchase, found myself owing an $80 collection fee and $140 in mystery tolls over a two-year period from 2021 to 2023. Despite receiving a regular bill and staying in good standing on tolls that align with my travel. First excuse was it was related to the tribal tag, second excuse was well you had a different transponder when your windshield was replaced, finally you did not have an updated address, despite having the current address associated with the vehicle on my drivers license, and updating it at the toll agency when I relocated from Missouri to Oklahoma. We have always taken the turnpike and didn't mind paying the $5 or so each way. Imagine our surprise to find no way to pay PLUS getting socked with a $10.50 charge EACH way. I live out of state. I have 2 homes. 1 home is listed om my drivers license. The other home is used for my mail. I calle Pike Pass and told them I would be using their toll roads and verified my Mailing address. After the trip I called and tried to Pay. Sorry bill is not ready yet. We will mail you a bill. Confirm my address and email. That is correct. I did this 3 more times. I never received a bill. I was going to pay online but there is a 7% surcharge from the vendor that runs it. So I waited and waited. We all can guess where it went. The bill went to some address other than the one I requested they use. The address on the title, my drivers license, who knows. I find this business full of incompentant persons, top to bottom. Yhey can't even stop malicious scam billing. read more

I was in Tulsa in November and accidentally took the turnpike. I exited at the first available moment, turned back in the other direction, and was charged $5.30. OTA sent the invoice, which I didn't receive due to my town's PO Box restrictions, resulting in a total payment of $20.30 because of fees. The supervisors and employees are indifferent to the fact that you made a simple directional mistake, so ensure you know where you are going in Oklahoma. read more

Made the mistake of using Kilpatrick Turnpike last year. No toll booths, you either have to sign up for an account with one of their 'partners' and deposit funds into it, or get billed twice the price with plate pay. I expected the bill in a week or so, but got two bills weeks later, with one already having a past due penalty. I sent them a check for just the toll. a few weeks later I get a bill acknowledging the check payment, but doubling the penalty. I sent them letters each time explaining that the penalty was their fault for sending the bill late, and that I refused to pay it. They completely ignore my messages, now they have a debt collector texting my wife saying they wil continue sending her texts. The penalty is now $56.25. I'm not poor but I refuse to pay. I lived in Zambia and Congo for a few years, and am finished paying bribes. if I have to I'll fly or drive 800 miles to OKC and deal with them face-to-face. The oklahoma turnpike authority is a bunch of thrives and basically the mob. You get to pay money to drive on the worst roads that are always under construction but never fixed. They double charge you and send off charges they claim you owe to collectors. The state of oklahoma gets its cut and holds your tag renewal and can even revoke your drivers license if you don't pay up. This is a huge scam and I can't believe everyone is fine with it. Recently travelled through and had no option other than PlatePay. What they don't tell you is the increase rate for PlatePay and then the fact that you are automatically charged a late fee because you had to use the service. The late fee was almost equal to the outrageous tolls. They like to believe that every state has an electronic toll system, but they don't. You are forced to utilize the tollway and I could understand paying more, but not paying more plus late fees plus the reporting. read more

If you travel out of state to Texas, don't always assume that the Pikepass they say will work will. It is actually NOT interoperable with ALL of NTTA at least. I just received a bill for almost $32 for 4 transactions that supposedly didn't work, and PikePass is EXTREMELY hesitant to open a dispute with NTTA regarding the incident. 6 transactions in April, and 4 failed. 16 transactions in May and 5 have failed, and I haven't gotten a bill for those yet, so $32 is just the beginning. PikePass is NOT worth it. read more

Sometimes a headache, sometimes not upon traveling from Joplin, MO or Tulsa, OK. My best advice for those that are traveling this road for the first time is to have cash on you at all times. At least $10, half of which should be in change. This particular stop requires $4 for a two-axle car, so on & so forth. I made the mistake once in not having enough cash, and the attendant had to fill out a voucher for me to use at the next stop, or upon returning at this same turnpike stop while returning to civilization in Oklahoma City. Or, if you are a resident of the state of Oklahoma and you have one of those EZ passes, then you have nothing to worry about. I moved from Northwestern Colorado to Florida in June. I mapped my route through Oklahoma so that I could see some of the state. It was surprising to find out so many of the highways I needed to use had tolls. I have driven in almost all of the 50 states of the USA and Oklahoma had, by far, the most toll roads. But, I paid the invoice as soon as I received it. Three months later I received another invoice for $15 worth of late fees ($5/month, but I didn't received those invoices)!! I paid it because mail could have gotten lost or been delayed during my move. I included a note, though, that I had paid the tolls and was being charged late fees on top of late fees (the invoice showed I had paid the actual tolls). Next, I received a notice of toll evasion with an even larger "fee". Huh? This also showed I had paid the tolls. I filled out the form for why I didn't owe the tolls (which was really only late fees). I just received yet another invoice for all the fees plus another $5 late fee. This is ridiculous! I paid for lodging and food on my way through Oklahoma but, when I go back to Colorado to visit family I will be avoiding Oklahoma! read more

Ive been to tolls where debit and credit cards were allowed. tell me why this toll area says cash ONLY. To get the receipt authorized, it was a 16 minute, out of my way drive. Then, had to drive to an ATM which was "broken", but really just took my money without giving me cash in hand. I had to drive to another ATM which didn't rob me of money. Wasted an hour of my time all because they don't accept cards. Unfamiliar territory, I encounter a sign for "last exit before toll". Not knowing the route I reluctantly continued to my destination. Later got a $15 bill in the mail. The BIGGEST joke of an organization I've come across. Had an unexpected rental car trip from New Mexico to Saint Louis, MO. Look I get that they're only taking cash perhaps to reduce fees, but the follow up payment process is pretty much driving back to Oklahoma. Their website is garbage and I've already gone through numerous reviews and posts saying the same so I don't know why I'm still surprised. Essentially my only three options (having been in a rental car) are: 1) take the toll violations (on two $5 tolls that I WANT to pay), 2) drive to Oklahoma to pay, or 3) call their office during my working hours. Options 1 and 2 are off the board because let's be real that's about dumber than anyone we've got in congress currently (on either side). Option 3 is the only realistic option, WHICH I'VE TRIED. You wait for hours on end until you finally get a OTA employee that says your toll still hasn't registered 3 WEEKS LATER. Do better OTA (and quite frankly the entire state of Oklahoma). read more

Excellent example of a non efficient government authority. No customer service after 4:30 PM, and none on weekends. One location open on weekend, in the Tourist Information center in N OKC on I-35, but no incoming phone line, will not accept messages and won't return a call. Walk-in service only. So, if you're like everyone with a job, except a government employee, you have no option to take care of your personal business except durning working hours. I'm in the private sector, I don't get to do that. Now, how much do you think that concerns them? Yeah, zero. They couldn't give a runny crap less about their toll paying customers. Now, let's talk about the roadways and bridges. Their maintenance program is a joke. The roads stink and the condition of their bridges is horrendous. They require contractors doing maintenance work to abide by the ODOT Specifications, but any work actually done by OTA maintenance employees are not governed by any material or workmanship standards or specifications. It really should be criminal, and the entire place should be shut down and responsibility and authority over OTA's current kingdom should be turned over to the ODOT. I don't mind the tolls, and I don't mind the occasional traffic backup, although they should install remote digital overhead or roadside signage to warn when motorists should exit in case of total road closure due to a serious accident, but the total and complete disregard for any customer service shouldn't be tolerated. Nothing will be done, and I doubt I'll even feel better unloading this, and that is a shame. The citizens of OK and the driving public in general deserve better. 1 star only because you can't award 0 or negative numbers. The director and all of the commissioners and the governor that appointed them should be ashamed of treating their customers in this manner. It's shameful. read more

Unfortunately for Oklahoma I feel I'll go out of my way to bypass the state because of their toll system. I'd rather not pay tolls but I'm willing, but they just make it so difficult. I'm from out of state and took the Turnpike and you can't pay as you go. You must rely on them taking a picture of your plate and sending a bill. If something goes wrong they charge you for late fees. Website didn't work to pay invoice and when it did more fees added. Just tired of getting ripped off by government agencies I guess. read more

The turnpike is a limited access interstate. Most exits/entrances are 5 to 20 miles apart and in between those locations there is absolutely no way to exit the roadway. So guess what happens when there is a wreck or construction ahead and traffic is backed up? You got it, you never know it when you unknowingly jet right pass your last chance to exit and avoid sitting in traffic. You would think that you could opt into a messaging system that would alert you to traffic ahead. What with all the twittering and texting and emailing and blogging going on these days. So I call the road condition phone number - guess what? "No hazardous road conditions" - but I just sat through 30 minute backup... hmmm... Google their website - obviously designed when PDF's were the latest fad. I'm investigating how to startup an unofficial traffic system for the Turner turnpike between Tulsa and OKC, which is the most highly traveled turnpike. Any ideas? Chime in! Craig read more

Ok so I'm going to Oklahoma and I am dumping change in these toll machines left and right. I get to the second to last one and they take debit cards. So I charged my $4 on the debit card. Then I get to the very last one in Oklahoma and they tell me they don't take debit cards. So between the change in my purse and my change ashtray I had all but $0.71 of the $4 that I owed. And I just looked at the lady and I said I don't have any more change. So she wrote me a vulture for the $0.71 and let me go. Be warned if you're coming to Oklahoma bring cash. Avoid Muskogee Turnpike (between I-40 and I-35) at all costs. Roughest road I ever PAID MONEY to drive upon. The tolls are not going into maintenance -- so maybe this is a good investment for shareholders -- but not for travellers. The OTA should be investigated for fraud. read more

The turnpike is created to ensure visitors never want to return. It seems Oklahoma has gone to great lengths to make them confusing and frustrating. if you have an emergency, you'll be trapped with no help. There is nowhere to pull over in case of an emergency and you cannot turn around anywhere. There are warnings throughout the turnpike warning that an attempt to turn around if you have gone the wrong way will lead to arrest. Once you enter a turnpike, you are locked in for up to 30 minutes and cannot leave the Thruway. Completely unsafe for any traveler. Oklahoma would like to collect a dollar and your safety is none of their concern. Very poorly designed and leave me to believe that the highway department has not put any thought into their design. Most dates but consider the safety of travelers first, but not Oklahoma. read more

Ok seriously Oklahoma the turnpike fees are outrageous. When crossing into to state to get to Fort Sill, we saw a sign that says cars 4.50. No announcement that we were entering a tollway but just a sign that says cars, semi and cost. First of all for these tolls, why are your roads so crappy?????! The Oklahoma turnpike authority is a joke!!!!!! I was driving to work on the morning of Saturday 7-21-18 through the construction east bound on turner turnpike and I hit a sign mount that goes on the dividing wall.. it was in the right hand and did not see it in time (because the mount was black and so is the NEW asphalt) and it caused $2500 damage to my 2006 Toyota Tundra.. it ripped the power steering lines out of my rack and pinion, hit the cross member of my transmission, hit my muffler.. and the "survey crew" stopped to see if they could help and when I showed him the thing I hit he proceeded to throw it farther off the road and when I told him I had already took pictures of it and was going to file a claim he said "it wont do you any good" I cant afford to fix my truck because their "crew" cant secure their material correctly.. now I'm going to have to come up with the flipping money to get my truck fixed so I can still get to work.... VERY DISAPPONITED!!!!!! if anyone knows who I need to contact to see about getting my truck fixed it would be much appreciated.. read more
