Red Chilaquiles, spicy but so good!

If you want AHHHMAZING food cooked in a cozy home like atmosphere then this is the place to go! We ordered the chilaquiles red and green and it blew us away! From the portion sizing to the flavor, they do not skimp out at all. Each plate came with big pieces of Carne Asada, Beans, fresh cheese, rice, chilaquiles, and fresh avocado. One plate has enough portions for two people but if you don't want to share, I wouldn't blame you! Ordering is simple, head to the cashier and order your food then grab a table to eat at. The chilaquiles were not on the menu but we just asked for it. You can grab a drink from the coolers and pay when you're all done. They also have a great variety of snacks! They serve menudo every weekend and birria every day. You just can't go wrong with this place. Check them out!

Okay! Okay! I loves me some Mexican food. Lord knows I do. But today, I ate for the very first time really for real Mexican food. Not a taco. Not a burrito. Honest to goodness Mexican food made by honest to goodness Mexicans. A very close friend, Rigo, invited me out to breakfast. I told him to pick any spot, thinking pancakes and eggs, something I never eat but was willing since the thing was to just hang out. He chose this spot. Now mind you, this is a grocery store. Never in my wildest dreams would I have come here for breakfast. Actually, I don't think I would have come here for groceries. Well, this is what happened. I get there early, walk in and grab a seat at one of the non-descript tables. Just 6 small pine tables and chairs in the center of the market. However, they were very clean. Clean is always a plus. It's 8 am and the store is just opening. I'm the only customer. They notice me sitting at the table and give me a very friendly welcome and continue opening the store. Nobody is eyeing me suspiciously or even looking like they are wary of me in any way. I grew up in Southeast San Diego. Small business owners were always wary of big muscular black guys walking in and sitting down without saying anything. This change was soooo refreshing. I mean... I'm really a nice guy regardless of how intimidating I look. It's hard being this nice looking like I will f**k you up. I mean, I will, but I'll be nice about it, My friend Rigo finally shows up speaking Spanish and greeting everyone like he just stepped into his mamma's kitchen. Actually, from this moment on, that's exactly what it felt like, There, in the middle of a grocery store, I felt like I was eating in the Mexican home of a good friend. He asked what I wanted and I immediately said, "I'll have what you're having " "You sure?" He asked. "Yeah. As long as it's not spicy" I really wanted to taste the food. He had already told me this place serves authentic Mexican. All I know is tacos, burritos, chimicangas (did I spell that right) and so on. My God I love that stuff. Never in my wildest crazy WTF whatever IDGAF thoughts would I have ordered what he ordered for me. I didn't even know food like this existed. Chilaquiles in Green Sauce. I... I.... I .. huh? I'm thinking..... "Please don't be Chilli Rellenos. I hate those." Whatever. Today is an adventure so let's adventure. Mexican rice, refried beans and half an avocado. Okay. Familiar. What was not familiar was the fact that for breakfast, carne asada soooo tender no knife was needed. Perfectly seasoned with spices that I knew to be Mexican, but soooo much tastier. Covered in a green sauce, i didn't notice the chilaquiles that had some heat but not so much that it burned my pallet. That green sauce. Wow. Just a big wow! Just put it in a glass and give me a straw. I imagine it could cover a myriad of dishes and take them to the next level. I'd put it on fried chicken and home fries instead of hot sauce. What? No tortillas? Of course there were. They were also chopped into squares and fried to a tender crispiness and placed under the sauce and chilaquiles for a nice bite with the carne asada, chilaquiles, sauce and egg. Egg? Yes. On top of it all was an over easy runny fried egg. I hate runny eggs. Well, I did until I broke it open and ran into the perfectly seasoned refried beans. I couldn't get it on my fork without accidentally getting the slice of white cheese on the fork too. Yes people. Slices of this white Mexican cheese I've never had before. "Angels singing!" Did I fail to mention how tender and flavorful the Mexican ride was? Well it was. I'm so used to it being undercooked or overcooked and mushy that I don't even normally order it. It's always been that stuff on the plate to fill you up instead of tasting good. This rice, I ate. Oh! The order was huge. The first photo is the order as it came to me, the second photo is how much I had the pleasure of taking home for lunch. Practically half of the order. Chilaquiles. My new favorite Mexican eat. You have got to try this place. I will be taking my family next Saturday. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how clean and beautiful the store was. This is definitely a Mexican food store that carries Mexican seasoning and canned ingredients to make a plethora of Mexican eats. They even have a full butchery staffed by qualified butchers to cut your meat to specification. This was definitely worth the drive from Pt Loma to El Cajon.

Just bought a maranated steak from this place and now eating. In a torta

Small market with some really good food. Their meat section has some pretty decent prices as well. All their workers were nice and helpful.

Now, let's talk about the real issue here: WHERE IS THE RANCH? The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because they don't have buttermilk ranch for the fries. They offer Thousand Island, but no ranch? That's a little disappointing Other than that, I have zero complaints. I really hope they consider adding ranch to the menu. They say they don't carry ranch because they don't serve salads but ranch isn't just for salads.

They still have the same vibe and the same menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They did raise the prices but still a really good value regardless. Formerly a sit-down restaurant, this is now set-up as a take-out, with few tables outside near the entrance. It is also a small market as well, with a meat counter. We walked in at around 5:00pm on a Wednesday and ordered their BBQ Beef Rib dinner and a slice of pistachio cheesecake. The employees there were really friendly and nice. We didn't get her name at the register but on our receipt it said Gabby was our server and she was sweet. We had a question regarding ordering meat for an upcoming event and Max at the meat counter was very helpful. When we got home, the meal was delicious! The meat on the ribs was juicy and tender, the baked potato was hot! It stayed warm longer than most potatoes we've had and it was good. The mixed veggies were a bit softer than I expected but was fine. It was a good meal. We went back to order 8 BBQ beef rib dinners 3 days later on Saturday, 4th of July. We called in our order 30 minutes before pick up and when we arrived, we waited a few more minutes for our order to be done. The ribs weren't consistently good. Some were good but some were tough and chewy. But the sides of coleslaw & mashed potatoes were really good. Rolls were already cold at pick-up. Overall, it's still a good place and glad they're back.

It sounded good but we also weren't really feeling like going "out" and something that could be delivered or that we could pick up seemed like the better play. All the typical poke places showed up when we searched but none of them really sold us. Well, good thing I remembered that Valley Farm's poke game is strong... really strong. Believe me, I know that those of you who don't know Valley Farm will likely say "really?" when I detail that this sleepy little Spring Valley market kicks out poke as good as anywhere else in SD, but it's true. It's a sleeper of a choice but the quality and price will make you a fan, trust me.

The store is clean, beautifully organized, and filled with high-quality products you don't always find at larger chain grocery stores. What I love most is their fresh selection, especially the produce, specialty items, and unique gourmet finds. Everything looks vibrant and carefully displayed. You can tell they take pride in what they offer. They also have a full butcher shop with everything you could desire. The selection is impressive, and it's wonderful knowing you can get high-quality cuts prepared fresh right there in the store. It adds such a personalized, old-fashioned market feel that you just don't see everywhere anymore. Another favorite of mine is their fresh-pressed cold juice blends, which I absolutely love. They taste incredibly fresh, and you can truly tell the difference in quality. It's such a treat to grab one while shopping. The staff has always been friendly, helpful, and welcoming.
