The front has that massive window that opens up. Fresh air for days!

Love this old bar. Formerly the Coppergate when I grew up in the area, the owners were smart enough to not change everything about the bar and leave it a bar! Just upgrading the quality of the alcohol and offering some food. I like that the bartender acknowledges your presence when you walk in or approach the bar even if they are busy and will get to you when they can. The quality of the pour is very good. Clean chilled taps. Large wall opens up to the outside. EASY PARKING!! I don't know if that parking and back, but there has always been street parking for me in that area so I can usually park very close if not right in front.

This place has a cool vibe. It's in an area of Ballard we don't get to often, but that means that parking is much easier than some other parts. The main room is a huge bar with lots of seating. They can open up the front so that you can get some breeze and enjoy a nice summer day. They also have food but we have yet to try it. What I like about this is the pinball rooms located in the back. There are a lot of games here, including a change machine. A couple times we've had the room entirely to ourselves. I first learned about this from a list of local pinball places and am glad I did. I might never have found it had I not read that article. Most games are 75 cents, but there are still a few 50 cent ones. My favs are Jaws and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you are not in to pinball another thing that is nice about this place is that it seems like a separate place so the noise seems to not overpower those who are just trying to enjoy a drink at the bar.

Such a cool vibe...Corn dogs were a "tasty" treat Samuel Jackson would scarf... Friendly.Beer of the day was refreshing. Someone referred to this as a Dive Bar. Clearly that person hasn't been to a Dive Bar in North Idaho! Tunes were full-on. Ya'll gonna be satisfied fer sure...

Finally made it to Olaf's for a drink and a burger with tots. The burger and tots were well seasoned. I was so hungry that I failed to take a pic. I'd come back for more tots and to try the Philly Cheesesteak and Chicken sandwich. Both looked really good.

    Pup-friendly pub

Pup-friendly neighborhood pub. Bartender brought over a container of treats while we enjoyed our drinks. Thanks!

We came here last night for my friend's 50th birthday celebration. It was held thru the anatomically correct vagina doorway, it gives a new meaning to "hole in the wall". The room itself was a throw back to the '50s '60s rat pack days. Plush red booths lined the room with tables and stools. The room also had a projection system. And there were velvet paintings of very voluptuous, naked ladies on the walls. It was a really cool, intimate room. Olaf's provided some pub grub for the party like sliders, veggies with dip, tater tots, and salad. All were decent enough and we had one server for the party, Cheeto (yup, that's his name), and he did an awesome job with the group!!! Opposite to the room was an area with pinball machines, too. Olaf's is a cool, neighborhood spot to grab a beer (or two), eat some pub grub, and watch the game. If this was in my hood, I'd be a regular... (even just to gaze at the vag doorway)

While talking to the bartender, he informed us that they distilled a couple liquors in the back. The whiskey that they had was easy to drink, sweet and went down smooth. The moon shine is only aged for a year from what I remember. They mix it in with fruit and distill it afterwards. I liked how to apple pie moon shine still retained the taste of alcohol but had a subtle taste of cinnamon and vanilla as well. Looking forward to coming back here soon.

UBE FRENCH TOAST - 5/5 I absolutely loved the French toast. The top and bottom had a perfectly crispy, crunchy exterior while the inside stayed soft and fluffy. The ube filling was light, creamy, and not overly sweet--I think it's made with cream cheese? It was the perfect balance of flavors. BREAKFAST MAC & CHEESE - 4.8/5 The mac & cheese was incredibly addictive and loaded with mushrooms, ham, and crispy hash brown bits. The flavors worked really well together. My only small complaint is that it was a little on the salty side. If it were slightly less salty, it would be perfect. It gives you that nostalgic vibe you feel when you know your grandparents came here to eat, sat by the window, and talked story for an hour or two with their friends and family. I've gotta be real, I love those feelings and these types of restaurants. The restaurants that endure trendy decor and overly fancy presentations. I admit, there's a time and place fort those and I'll visit them to check them out, but know, that I will always have a soft spot for restaurants that stand the test of time. We were lucky enough to get a seat by the pier with a little bit of a wait, but not enough to ruin our dinner. The menu is simple but had quite of bit of options to please any taste bud. We ordered a couple of oysters to try and the BBQ prawns to start. The oysters had just enough tang to go along with the richness of the meat. Our waiter was peppy and thorough, explaining to us about the coveted copper river salmon that's only around for a few weeks in the summer. I definitely wanted to try that and have a go at their clam chowder. My boyfriend and I ended up sharing the entree of the copper river salmon as well as an order of the bbq prawns and a cup of the clam chowder. Aunt carol also got the prawns and the Hearts of Romain salad with blue cheese crumbles and blue cheese dressing. For our first meal in Seattle, and my first time at Chinook's, I'd say this restaurant hit it out of the ball park! The copper river salmon was fresh and felt as though it was a burst of flavor unlike any salmon I've had before. It was less buttery and more vibrant and I loved every bite. We each loved our meals and were happy we stopped here our first night. We were hoping to come back for lunch before we headed out, but alas, trips always end up too short in the end. I know we will be back the next time we're in Seattle. Window seat and all!

We visited the Friday after Thanksgiving and arrived around 5 PM, hoping to beat the crowds--and luckily, we did. The restaurant was still fairly calm before the evening rush arrived. We had hoped to take advantage of Chinook's Happy Hour, but learned that the Happy Hour menu is only available at the bar, not at dining tables. Since we wanted an easy, relaxed conversation, we decided to stay seated at our table instead. Our server, Marilyn A, seemed a bit frazzled, likely because she had several tables to manage at once, but she was clearly trying her best to keep up and serve everyone promptly. We started with fresh Kumamoto and Totten Inlet oysters, which were delicious--clean, briny, and very fresh. For our entrées we ordered the wild salmon burger, salmon and chips, and the classic Caesar salad. All were enjoyable and satisfying choices, especially if you're in the mood for simple, well-prepared seafood. We skipped dessert since we had just returned from Leavenworth and had fresh sugar and gingerbread cookies waiting for us at home--a sweet ending we were already looking forward to. Overall, it was a pleasant early evening seafood dinner and a nice, relaxed way to wrap up the day.
