Had a fine dining date night at Olamaie, a Southern restaurant set inside a beautifully restored home. The space had a warm, elegant feel with dim lighting and a lively atmosphere. The cocktails ended up being better than the food, which surprised me. Everything was plated nicely and the ingredients were super fresh. Service was great. A cute spot if you're looking for a refined Southern vibe and great drinks.

Olamaie is an elevated Southern restaurant known for its modern takes on classic comfort dishes, and it's housed in a restored building that has earned 1 Michelin star. We were in Austin for Formula 1 weekend and came here for dinner after the race. Our reservations were at the bar, which was a great experience. Our bartender was friendly, engaging, and really knew the menu inside and out. The menu is a three-course meal (plus dessert), and every single dish was fantastic. For me, the standouts were the beef tartare and the 18oz Wagyu ribeye. The ribeye comes off the bone, is super filling, and absolutely worth the extra $85. They are known for their biscuits and honestly, they are the best I've ever had. The whole meal felt special, and I'm so glad I got to experience it.

Came on a Monday evening to celebrate my husband's birthday. Olamaie made it extra special! Service is top notched and the restaurant itself is cute and quaint. I felt like I was enjoying a meal at someone's home. My favorites were the biscuits, beef belly, and the catfish. Quote possibly the best biscuits I've ever had. We had the chocolate sorbet for dessert and it was very large and rich. We got a free ice cream sandwich for my husbands bday and it was SO YUMMY. Fair warning - the portions are massive! If I were to go back, I would have done 1-2 first course, 1 main course to share and 1-2 sides. We ended up getting 2 of everything PLUS dessert. We enjoyed the leftovers the next day!

Olamaie was an unbelievable experience. I definitely understand why it won a Michelin star. It was a 4 course meal so my wife and I were able to try a lot of dishes. Each course was different and unique. The flavors were amazing! The drinks were fantastic between the cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic options. The waiter even provided recommendations of drinks to pair with courses. As it was my wife's birthday, the host offered to take a picture of us outside by the sign, which we appreciated. And they treated us with a nice dessert to celebrate her birthday as well. The restaurant is in a refurbished house and provided a small, close-knot space that we thoroughly enjoyed. A bit pricey, but worth it. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

Olamaie now deserves a spot on one of my top favorite restaurants in Austin for special occasions. The service was wonderful from beginning to end. I opted for a drink called Birthday Suit and it's a local spin on an espresso martini using Desnudo beans. It has a creamy miso flavor and was really perfect. All the dishes were incredible minus the tuna crudo. The crudo fell flat. It was cubed tuna with watermelon and seemed incomplete compared to the rest of the dishes. It lacked flavor and presentation. Highly recommend you get the beef tartar first course instead! The biscuits were of course a hit. I went with 4 other people so basically got to try the entire menu. The chicken liver mousse and chicken were fantastic too. The dessert surprised me and I really loved it. Perfect texture and flavor without being too sweet. I can't wait to come back and try new dishes.

Omg I had the most wonderful dining experience the food was all incredible here. First off we started with some cocktails at the bar and the espresso martini with brown butter alcohol was delish and the most incredible espresso martini I've ever had. Then going into the meal I started off with chicken liver mousse. Followed by beef tartare, the short rib with grits and lastly a cake. I loved the unique flavors and southern twist they had. The servers were polite and knowledgeable making sure our drinks were full. A very organized dinner service and wonderful experience.

    Tasty cocktails all around!

I can understand why this has one Michelin Star; fantastic service and innovate dishes. My server was amazing; she was friendly, connected on a personal level with ease; and just something positively unexpected at most Michelin places these days. Most spots tend to prioritize the aura of a Michelin vibe versus true connection. A nice surprise here. The food was as I would expect, wonderfully cooked, prepared and served. The oysters were tasty, although I would have preferred more seasoning and pickiness. The lamb tartare was seasoned with boldness and had a nice Moroccan flare to it. I did, however, find the texture of the tartare a bit less tender than I would have preferred. Perhaps, though, that is just lamb tartare ... this was my first time having lamb versus (on of my favorite) beef tartare. The chicken I had was very nice, although, nothing overly impressive to me. I feel it needed some deeper elements of texture (perhaps more of a crust or something to have some crispness to it). Lastly, the biscuit. Yeah -- that biscuit alone is worth the trip, in my opinion. It's unique because the inside is soft, buttery, and everything you want in a biscuit. However they got the top and bottom of the biscuit extremely crispy. So delicious! Served with a rich, honey, butter. What's not to love??

The four-course prix fixe dinner experience was best in class.

Olamaie's 4 course prix fixe dinner that we had last night was simply divine. We dined with another couple, and everything we had was fresh, creative and refined. For special occasions, I can't think of a better place to experience a first class dinner in Austin.

Pro Tip: Michelin 1 star. Earlier reservations feel like you have the place to yourself and it's much quieter. As expected, an exquisitely exceptional experience. There will be a service charge that it's included, and anything additional is greatly appreciated. Listen, their service is worth the additional tip. Careful attention and delivery of menu recommendations and table service. Claps to Daniel for leading the way through the menu, starting us off with two orders of the Class (you'll need one for each person) and the Cauliflower for starters, and then two entrees with a side of biscuits. I went with the Golden Fried Catfish and was not at all disappointed. Will. Get. Again. Perfectly crisped and finished with a beurre blanc sauce with caviar. Table service will include a small bottle of Tabasco to cut and balance the flavors with some acidity. And the Biscuits? Oh my. Best in town. Period. While their small biscuit shop, Lil Ola, has needed to unexpectedly close down, they do look forward to revisiting the concept. They are that good. I look forward to returning and trying some new options, including their cocktails and desserts.

First, let me start off with the food. We knew it was a Michelin star restaurant southern style. I really didn't know what to expect because it's a rotating menu. We were very impressed with the food. Every dish was good. Very creative menu. I really don't have anything negative to say. Other than I was in a food coma because there was so much food between the four courses. The ambience was stellar. The restaurant is located inside an old home which is renovated. The service was outstanding. They have a lot of workers floating around, ensuring that your water is always refilled and you're always receiving a new set of silverware.

Ummmmm okay so this place has a Michelin star!!! I have never been to a Michelin star restaurant and a few in Austin were recently awarded one. Many of them were BBQ - which because I'm vegetarian I won't be trying but this place did have a vegetarian option for me to check out! I got the gumbo and it was delicious, with just the right amount of spice to give it a kick without being overwhelming. The flavors were rich and hearty, and the mushrooms added a wonderful texture and earthy depth to the dish. It was a satisfying and tasty meal all around! We also had the cabbage and the rum cake for dessert. I would not normally think of cabbage as being tasty but this one was. The rum cake was a little stronger than you would think it would be, but it was good that way. It was pricey but I had fun here and I'm glad I tried it!!

We dined at Olamaie for our anniversary and had a great dinner. We were greeted with an anniversary card and small complementary drinks. The space is small and I enjoyed the intimate dining room. Our waitress was working her first night there but it didn't show, she gave great suggestions and provided good service. While we were mid-meal there, they were officially awarded a Michelin star, which was a cool experience. I expected more celebration but the staff played it cool. We ordered three apps, the biscuits, and two entrees which was probably one app too many. My favorite were the fish dip appetizer and the catfish entree. The rabbit was great but a bit salty for me. Overall I thought the food was good and different but not quite in my top meals in this city. The cocktails were good as well, the Fringe Contender was a stand out.

This was a fantastic experience. Everything was hot and fresh from the kitchen. Had the fixed menu. Wagyu was the best. But everything was good. Fast service. Good drinks. Friendly staff.

My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. An hour ago it wasn't raining, but now it's pouring. A few months ago, I heard of a newer bar and experience called Equipment Room just right off of South Congress. Music means everything to me. Nothing can express emotions and instill a feeling in 3 minutes like a song can. I live for that. Equipment Room is inherently Japanese in concept. Existing in Japan for over 50 years, listening bars combine high fidelity audio equipment with impressively crafted cocktails and alcohol combining the passion of music in a space to gather with comfortable chairs and a beautiful atmosphere. The concept has expanded westward as all cool things inevitably do, but I would never think a spot would be successful in Austin like it would be in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and so on. As I back my car into a parking spot on South Congress, I grab the umbrella out of my trunk and walk my girlfriend and me to the entrance trying to not get ourselves soaked in the process. This is not the first time we have tried to go to Equipment Room. We tried to get a walk-in table just to see out of morbid curiosity and that was a failure. I booked her and me a table for this night and I was madly looking forward to it. As we got to the small entrance, we were introduced to the hostess who brought us from the stairs into the main underground space and to our seats on the couch in a large wraparound sofa with other parties sitting near us. The music is faint from the entrance, but once you walk through the main walkway, a wave of sound hits your eardrums. You're immediately engrossed into the music like walking into a concert hall or putting a fresh pair of headphones on for the first time. As we sat down, selections from Outkast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik were playing through the speakers. Our hostess introduced us to their "User Manual" (their menu) where it contained all the snacks and drinks you could get your grubby hands on. There's more than just drinks and food on the menu. The first page introduces the concept and gives a few house rules. The second page shows all the equipment this so-called room has, from the premium Klipsch speakers, their preamps and amplifiers as well as their turntables and mixers. It's a dream page for music nerds. I want a $15k speaker in my apartment, but those noise complaints would never end. Our waitress came by shortly to give us water and take our order. Their menu is quite expansive, but the main pages we were told to check out were their A-side drinks or the classics and their B-side drinks, which are more experimental. We had to go with experimental for starters because who knows when you'll get to try something similar again. I started with a Goca Dünya while my girlfriend ordered a Deceptacon. The Goca Dünya was a vodka based floral drink with pistachio foam and Amaro Nonino, an Italian herbal liqueur. The Deceptacon was a rum-based cacao drink with a touch of lime and mint. It took a little time for our drinks to come out, clearly, as they are quite intricate. I loved my drink, bluntly. The pistachio foam was a great balance to the herbal flavors at the bottom. My girlfriend and I continued to enjoy each other's company as the music continued. The space we were in was decorated with posters and memorabilia from legendary artists coming through Austin and some general music decor like that purple album from that Prince guy. The DJ-curator that night was on a tear playing incredible soul music holding the bar hostage with a taste of funk. Jimmy Smith came next before transitioning to a few tracks from Bobbie Gentry. The last albums he pulled out were Steely Dan's Aja (a stone cold classic) and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life (a top 10 album of all time). Not only was he playing classics like Isn't She Lovely, but he threw down some deeper cuts like Black Man and Contusion. Incredible. We both got another drink with my girlfriend getting their A-Side Espresso Martini while I got the Brown Sugar from their B-Sides. It was a seaweed and mushroom infused whiskey with a few more bells and whistles and it was super unique. Quite a bit of their menu is Japanese-inspired in homage to the originators of listening bars. This includes Japanese beer, sake, and Japanese-inspired food and beverages on their menu. Very cool. The worst part of the night came when our hour and 45 minute reservation came to a close. I could've stayed there for another 3 hours and never grown tired, but with how popular this space has become, they gotta kick you out at some point. This is an experience you have to have. It's worth it. I'll be strolling back in soon enough because there is nothing like this in Austin and it's truly a special space. RIYL: Actively listening to music.

I visited The Equipment Room tonight to celebrate my wife's birthday, and unfortunately our…read moreexperience at the entrance was disappointing. When we walked in, the hostess asked us to return to the first room because she was not at the seating area. She then told us there was no available seating, which was surprising since I had just been inside and saw multiple open seats, including two that had just been vacated. The hostess--her name sounded like Constanza--explained that the room was full because of Memorial Day weekend. When I said we didn't mind waiting since it was only midnight, she then stated they would be closing soon at 1 a.m., even though the posted closing time is 2 a.m. These explanations contradicted each other, and her tone came across as dismissive. She avoided eye contact, offered no real assistance, and ultimately suggested we check for seats ourselves, which felt unwelcoming and unprofessional. For a venue with such a strong reputation, especially on a special occasion, the interaction fell far below expectations. I hope the team can ensure more consistent and courteous service at the host stand moving forward.

I felt the vibe instantly, like as soon as I put one foot in the door. Magical, sophisticated, worldly, wonderful and more were the feelings that spontaneously hit me. The dark and elegant decor, lighting, design, & layout made me feel as though I were in a high-end Tokyo cocktail lounge. The front room as I mentioned is an intimate bar and lounge area with artwork adorning the walls. It's a modern, minimalist, and sleek space. The artwork is ever-changing (every couple of months or so) and the cocktail menu changes right long with it. Note: artwork is available for purchase. What an absolutely glorious way of combining different mediums (liquid art vs physical art). The craft cocktails & mocktails are the epitome of works of art. I've had great cocktails and mocktails elsewhere but honestly I'd be hard pressed to find anything on this level. You're taken into an entirely different realm just watching the genius of mixologists. It's mesmerizing watching them hone their craft. In the back of the lounge is an enclave of eclectic art and other pieces that then leads you to Konbini, the sushi bar. It's an industrial, warehouse vibe with a long counter that screams hip, Tokyo inspired, late-night eatery. Service is impeccable and welcoming at this cosmopolitan venue. It's truly an amazing experience.

So this is the fifth menu since opening? How fun! Tried the Key Lime drink which was too damn delicious. Tasted like a damn dessert and went down too easy. Only food I tried was the Tofu Chip which was delicious as well. Also got the Milky drink and it went down just as smoothly. All in all great place, just popped in for my second time in the past three days. The vibe was chill and laid back. Dim lighting and good music.
