    Bread bowl chowder
    Dennis H.

We had Calamari Steak and Bread Bowl Clam Chowder. Both were very good. The Calamari Steak was cooked perfectly. The chowder bread bowl was just right with lots of clams. The place is clean and roomy. No waiting to be seated and our food was up in minutes from the time of order. We are coming back for dinner tomorrow to try another dish on the menu.

Great spot! Wonderful views and great service. Steamer clams were delicious. The lump crab cocktail was good but the cocktail sauce was over powered by however much of horseradish they had in there. Chowder was delicious tho!!!

We love the Porthole. Burgers and fries are delicious. I also love their club sandwich. Their thousand island is homemade and so good for dipping your fries in. We always get togo food and they're very nice and the food is ready pretty quick. The restaurant itself is cute and right by the water.

Plenty of parking, so that's a plus Typical touristy coastal restaurant with OK food in reasonable quantity and reasonable prices (translation: not a gourmet destination, but good if you're hungry). Service was a bit on the slow side, but cheerful. Since restaurant choices in the area are limited, we'd probably come back again -- and keep our expectations in check.

We found this restaurant on our drive from Klamath, Ca to Eugene, OR. Great spot to stop for lunch. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They have a large menu with a lot of choices. The view is also beautiful overlooking the Rogue River at Gold Beach. Recommend the clam chowder in a bread bowl. Hit the spot! And the fried cheese curds were a great appetizer to share.

Very average seafood place. No excuse with locally sourced fresh fish. Coleslaw tucked. Won't be back.

The deep fried seafood plater was high priced bland, need all the tarter and cocktail sauce just to make it edible.

    Is there Rv parking nearby?

Yes. The parking lot is large and big rig friendly. Busses, RV, semi, horse trailer, boat, etc. There are at least three entrances from different streets along 101. (Ellesburg Avenue.) All are very accommodating.

I got a beer and the fish open face sandwich with sweet potato fries. The fries were nothing special. I think the sandwich would be great with the option to change the cheese type. I would love to try it with swiss cheese. The sandwich was good and tasted fresh very little seasoning so you really got to taste the fish and it was yummy. Nice big bathroom that was clean. View was not really anything good and the windows were dirty from the salt air.

Upon arriving the parking lot everything smelled pretty good, which was great. We checked in and waited over 30 minutes to be seated, busy night no reservation totally understandable. Once seated we sat there for almost another 40 minutes before a waitress would even look our way. I understand things get busy but walking past a table that has been waiting without even an acknowledgment, offer for a drink, or even a comment of "we'll be right with you" was definitely disappointing. Like I mentioned earlier, I usually love supporting small restaurants. And the food smelled good so we stayed waiting. We finally order our food, by then another half hour has passed before we get our food, which was overall underwhelming. I ordered a filet mignon which honestly seemed more like a sirloin. The crust and cook on it was good, although the flavor was lacking. I enjoyed their vegetables and mash potatoes far more than the steak itself. My partner ordered a prime rib whose only saving grace was the au jus it was served with. Overall, we felt very disappointed with the service. The food was okay but I personally wouldn't return considering the price point.

Plus, they won't scramble the omelettes, but you can get scrambled eggs, which makes no sense. Ridiculous! I mean, come on! It was ok. Server was OK.

Our waitress seemed…read moreirritated with us from the start, and mind you all we had done was sit at the table she instructed us to sit at. For context, I've been a waitress on the coast for nearly 10 years, so I'm usually very mindful of not making a server's job harder, but this felt different. When we ordered, she came across as genuinely annoyed. Did she check on things like coffee? Yes, but with a look of annoyance that made the whole interaction uncomfortable. The food itself was mediocre at best. The gravy was meh, though the chicken fried steak was decent. The "hash browns," however, were not traditional hash browns, they were more like oven roasted potatoes smashed on the grill, which was disappointing if you're expecting the classic version. The pricing was another surprise. I work at a higher end restaurant, and their brunch prices are comparable to what we paid here, which says a lot, considering this is supposed to be a basic diner experience. When our food was dropped off, we were told the toast would be "just a minute." No problem, but when it finally arrived, it was completely cold, with unmelted "butter" that had little to no flavor. And as someone who grew up eating margarine and then transitioning to butter, I knew that this was margarine. My boyfriend who has never had margarine didn't understand why his butter didn't "taste like anything". Also worth noting, my partner ordered a side of sausage links, four small links for $9, yup your read that right, $9 dollars for a side of sausage. Overall, the service felt hostile with a fake mask, the food was mediocre, and the pricing didn't match the experience. As a person who was raised here on the coast and thought to "experience double d's diner again" since it has been a few years, I won't be returning.
