What a deal. -This review encompasses 2 visits: Once a long time ago and the 2nd this past Memorial Day. -First round was AMAZING. Was in the area for the weekend, so was able to have a few beers and pies. Drinks on tap are always good. Can't go wrong with a slice and a pint for like $12 bucks. -been meaning to come back.... - was eating our way through the near by bay, but was able to make room for a slice of Sal's Pizza. -Slice of Hot Honey Pepperoni : perfection.....crispy thin crust, sweet honey finish with semi spicy pepperoni....what a bite. -Slice of cheese: kid said it was good. -Water: super fancy. My wife and I ordered from Sal's Pizzeria for the first time today and we had a pretty solid meal. We picked up a large BBQ Chicken Luau pizza -- BBQ sauce, mozzarella, chicken, jalapeño, bacon, pineapple, red onion ($32), an order of their pesto twists ($12) with a side of marinara, an arugula salad -- arugula, Bosc pear, Parmesan, lemon shallot dressing ($13), and an order of four small cannolis ($8). After phoning in our order, we were told the wait would be roughly 25 minutes -- pretty fast in my opinion, considering we were ordering around peak dinner hour at 6:00 p.m. I really appreciate how generous they are with the pizza toppings here. There was not a single slice without multiple pieces of each unique topping. The crust here is thin, crispy, and holds up well to the abundance of BBQ sauce on the pizza. If you like spicy, you'll definitely enjoy this pizza flavor -- the jalapeño are hot! Moving on to the side dishes, I thought the pesto twists sounded really good, but they fell a bit short in terms of texture: the twists were not as fluffy as I thought and some thought they were a bit too salty. The arugula salad had a solid variety of ingredients. I liked the saltiness the shaved Parmesan provided and sweetness provided by the pears. Definitely a salad I'd get again. Definitely consider getting two salads if you have more than a few people in your group you're sharing with. Last but not least, I enjoyed the outside shell of the cannoli, but multiple people in my group pointed out that the filling had some grittiness to it. As somebody who's only had cannolis a handful of times in their life, I don't feel the most qualified to offer commentary on the cannoli here except that I liked that it wasn't over the top sweet. Overall, I would happily pick up a pizza from Sal's Pizzeria again. However, instead of ordering so many sides, I would probably pick up a second pizza, since their pizza flavors are all so interesting. read more

I decided to give Sal a second try. So many people rave about it being the best in Cotati I thought maybe my first experience was the one off. Upon entering it's a nice friendly atmosphere. The selection of pizzas is wonderful and the desserts I definitely would come back for. I got a vegetarian pizza with ricotta and spinach. It looked amazing. I just find the crust really dry and bland. The toppings were fine. I was hoping my second visit would convince me that what people are saying it's true. That being said everyone has different taste and I prefer a better crust. read more

The Hawaiian calzone was the best he's ever had with ham, pineapple, and rich ricotta! We also loved the pesto bread sticks and the pizza hot dog with the beef hot dog and bacon inside the perfectly baked pizza dough. Also, thx u immensely Sal for telling us about the Calabrian chili oil on the table. Omg, we were pouring that magic oil on everything-just the right amount of spicy! My hubby also said that the double IPA that u had on tap today was the best he's ever tasted. Next time, we'll need to come back for the Nutella calzone when we have more room. The staff was super friendly when I went to pick them up, and the place smelled amazing inside--like, you instantly get hungry walking in. It was also really clean and well-kept. I asked for some ranch on the side and was told it's normally $1 a cup, but they threw them in for free since it was a big order, such a nice gesture. (Would be awesome if there was an option to add sauces when ordering online!) The pizzas were seriously delicious. We got the Truffle Hog, Margherita di Bufala, Meat Lovers, and BBQ Chicken Luau. Ordered 2 pizzas to go from Sal's for the first time. The crust was hard as a rock! Even burnt in some areas. We ordered an Italian sausage, mushrooms and onion. Hit up Sal's pizza spot for a late dinner and really appreciated the warm, welcoming feel and friendly staff. The space is smaller inside with a bar, a few long tables and some seating outside. They do pizza by the slice, NY style which makes it easy to try a bunch of different ones. I got the pig on a mushroom and poor man combo and my friend got the flying Hawaiian. We also ordered the meatballs which were super tender and had lots of flavor. Decent pizza at great prices. Definitely a solid choice if you're looking for something higher quality and not super expensive like acre or Tony's. It breaks my heart to have to do this, but oh how the mighty have fallen. The last few times we've splurged and gotten take out have been mediocre at best, and this last time was just unacceptable. 1 large cheese and 1 large pepperoni, a simple order, but clearly not made to order. If I had to wager these pies were made at the earliest at the beginning of the day and just reheated. The pepperoni at least tasted like it had a bit of sauce, but the cheese was just dried up cheese and cardboard. I can't believe the difference in just a few months! We LOVED it here! Unfortunately, paying almost 60 bucks for two mediocre pizzas is just ridiculous - and I hate comparing to chains since I WANT to support local - but for half the money I could have gotten twice the amount of food at a higher quality at Dominos. I really really hope they can turn it around but for now I'll be going elsewhere. read more

This place was sooooooo good. We placed an online order because we were not sure if there would be seating, but there were a few indoor tables and a bar we could sit at! The inside was really cute and you could tell they put a lot of effort into the decor. The man who served us was very friendly and recommended us some beers while we waited for our order. They serve local beers and have a pretty good selection. We got the small chipotle chicken pizza and a small vegan pizza (forgot to get a picture) and both were delicious. This is just about as good as a real NY slice! Stopped in with my kiddo in the middle of the afternoon, a little nervous, knowing that time of day isn't ideal for a fresh slice, but enticed by some pictures I saw online and feeling super meh about the other two well known options in Cotati. Just left Sal's Pizza in Cotati. We had a 12" meat pizza and a 12" veggie pizza and a green salad. Everything we ate was 5* delicious. Thin crust pizza, but not 'crackery'. The wet ingredients didn't sog out the bottom of the pie. Very good crust. The salad was a good sized salad, not dainty, with an excellent oil/vinegar dressing. Our waiter is a very nice guy named Roman; you can tell he enjoys his job; very pleasant fellow. The bill was about $50 for the two pizzas; we'll get 2 full meals for the two of us, so @ $12.50 for each meal; quite reasonable. Inside and outside seating, very clean.
