I don't love this place. The line always takes forever. And I'm never blown away by the food. One of those places that I want to like, so I keep coming back, and I'm never happy that I came. Nothing is terrible about it. The staff is ok, the prices are reasonable, the selection is good. It's just, eh. I wouldn't tell anyone not to come, but I wouldn't make it a priority either. Updated review. I came here after not doing so for a while since Fuel was closed for some reason. It's just not worth doing so. I started with a chicken quesadilla; the guy at the counter was perturbed and was about the push back, unclear why, then went to make it. I then ordered their namesake wrap. It appeared to be a problem from the start. As I was looking for other stuff I heard the guy making it say "we don't have half of this shit". I'm not excited to see what I actually get. A couple of other customers came in. The most recent asked for a bagel and when they said they didn't have it, she went to get a juice, saw they were all warm in the fridge and just left. I stopped in for a breakfast sandwich and the place was totally empty, I have never seen a deli empty at 830 in the morning. Unless the place is not good, anyway so as I'm waiting to order, the guy behind the counter has a glove on one hand, you say ok maintaining health standards. NOT!! the guy was handling food, money with the same dirty glove on. Do they not get any training on handling food...Overall the place looks dirty and grimy. I was excited to go to this deli after a couple of friends recommended it to me. I thought, this was going to be a great experience. When I tell you it was so off the mark, I bet you want all the details. Well sit down, let me tell you a story...... When I walked in, and looked around, I loved the modern look to the place. It was clean and organized. If the line ahead was any indication on how good the food was, then I was in the right place. Good food however doesn't excuse bad customer service. When it was time to take my order, the staff wasn't friendly, just "what do you want?" How about "hello" with a side of "may I take your order." Once I place my order of a turkey panini, the real fun began. I waited and waited and waited. Why was it taking so long? The guy that ordered after me got his meal first. It wasn't till I step forward that the guy remembered to make my order. I thought "wow! How rude." If I didn't stand in view of this guy would he have even remembered to make it? Why didn't they just write my order down? It would have saved a lot of trouble. When I finally got the panini it was time to see what all the talk was about. After first bit I knew........none of my friends know what there talking about! I didn't even like it all that much. I would have rather have gone to a chain fast food restaurant then eat that panini. My friends said other items on the menu are good. They told me try them out first. So I owe it to them to try. It was a busy day, I'm not making excuses, but if they want customers to return maybe start with good service. Then find better ingredients to make the panini more enjoyable. If I could give 0 stars I would. I usually do not write reviews but this place is extremely unsanitary. The cold cuts in the meat case are discolored, moldy and inedible. The owner ( the Spanish guy) has very poor hygiene and does not meet the food sanitation guidelines. He makes food with his bare dirty hands as he sips on his 12 pack of beers. He is a dirty drunk. I would also advise not to buy cold cuts here. He advertises that he sells boars head but does not actually give the costumers boars head products. He will sell a meat or cheese of a different brand and then charge costumers a higher price for it. If I was the department of health, I would shut this deli down. USE GLOVES !!! Stopped in on a Sunday morning for breakfast. There was NO ONE on line. Owner took the order & had an attitude making an annoyed face but ok..7:40am Ordered French toast, bacon & home fries well. Friend gave their order. ( a breakfast hero, sounds easy right) Owner with fair skin had the spatula in his right hand BUT USED his LEFT HAND TO FLIP MY FRENCH TOAST OVER RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!! are you kidding me??? You handle money, use the bathroom & touch God knows what else & you touch my bread with your bare hands!! I say something about not using gloves to him & he walks away. Still with a total attitude for a 2nd TIME HE PICKS UP the french toast WITH NO GLOVES ON & flips it over!! Blatantly in front if me so u can only imagine what happens when u can't see him or his employees!!! NONE of the employees for that matter were wearing any gloves!! MAJOR MAJOR Board of Health violation!! I said I don't want it anymore since you used your hands. He gives me the bacon & home fries. The right thing to do would be 1 - Apologize for being so disgusting handling my food with your bare dirty hands 2 - Say I'm sorry I forgot, I won't charge you for the bacon or home fries to make it somewhat right But Nooo I take my food home after paying for it & open it up. The home fries are disgusting!! With not 1 onion or spices are on them!! Probably on purpose for complaining about him using his hands& no gloves. So tasteless I had to throw them out!! COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY & Time!! My breakfast was bacon well done that's it! & that was probably touched as well. This is a text book old school Deli. It's not about ambiance, atmosphere or even service with a smile. It sometimes feels like a good old German steakhouse where the service is cold but the food is great. Hands down, the best egg sandwiches in the neighborhood. What I like about this place is that they don't try to be gourmet and make everything more fancy than good. They just serve the classics And they do it well. All the way down to the muffins baked on premises. When you order a sandwich here you get a real sandwich. Not some kind of sissified mockery on artisan bread with 2 pieces of meat and a bunch of lettuce, you get a real sandwich. It's food prepared by people who like food. read more

I ordered breakfast from Old Country Delicatessen through Grubhub because I wanted to try a new deli in the area. When I went to pick it up my gps sent me on a wild goose chase so I pulled over at the gas station and called them up. They told me they were location in the shopping center right across the street from where I pulled over. I walked in and the first thing I noticed is they are very well staffed. I counted at least 6 employees on duty at the time. The deli counter is quite long and takes up practically the entire right hand side of the store until you reach the cashier. They have a good variety of both fresh and pre-made foods and plenty of drinks and snacks too. The guys working there seemed cool. My sandwich was good, precisely as I'd ordered it. They did not forget to include my oj, napkins and a straw in the brown paper bag. The bacon on my bacon egg and cheese was nice and crisp and they prepared it this way without having to be told to do so. No one likes soggy bacon! Eggs were great, cheese was melty and the poppyseed roll was soft and fresh. It was a very enjoyable sandwich. I will be back to try some of their lunch offerings. read more

So, I need to start off by saying I love this deli. They are old fashioned in how they operate, rather than turning into one of these Bodega type places. I love this old fashion New York Deli. With that being said....don't expect to be in-and-out. They are very slow compared to other delis. They guys aren't overly personable either. I put in an order for a major company in the area at 11am, the guy tells me the order will be ready at noon... i show up at 12:10pm and the guy has this look on his face like he forgot something... he tells me "it'll be ready in 10 minutes"... 25min pass and i question whats the wait, he then promises me 10 more minutes. Well after an hour and 15 fukkin minutes he tells me my order is ready. But now there is one problem, there's 1 sandwich missing and they cant figure out which one. Not to mention i FAXED THIS ORDER IN TYPED!! It wasn't hand written but TYPED! Now they start opening up the sandwich to find out they wrote wrong names on the sandwiches. SMFH. The guy kept asking me which one was missing... i don't fukkin know i don't work there and i wasn't making them. All the while another customer is telling another worker that his order should not be almost $18 for 2 sandwiches and a bag of chips... the customer tells him how much it should be and the worker says "oh now you make your own price" followed by the customer telling him that he's been coming here longer than hes been working at the place. Back to my order, which also included some 2 liter cokes and sprite, well they don't have 2 liters and the guy working here GOES NEXT DOOR TO CVS TO BUY A SIERRA MIST and then charge me triple for it as a sprite. I had ordered 2 eggs with spinach and tomato on wrap with a side of home fries and come to find out they put the home fries INSIDE MY WRAP after i was going crazy thinking they forget that item too. WOW Oh did i mention they scratch their ass, handle money, make YOUR sandwich and touch the register ALL WITH NO GLOVES ONE! The place is disgusting, so dirt and nasty i'm currently looking for the Health Dept's phone number as we speak.... never again!! I love this deli!! I have been coming here at least once a week for close to 10 years. Sometimes there is a long line during peak hours but it is worth the wait. The place is clean and the food is always freshly prepared. They have a well trained staff unlike some delis who's staff is a bunch of teenagers and changes every other month- the owners and the staff take the time to make each item to order and maybe that is why the other reviewer thought it was slow. I know I can be a very particular (aka annoying) orderer yet I am always greeted with a smile. My office recently moved and there are closer delis yet I still drive 10+ minutes to go to THIS deli because I have not found another deli that even compares. read more

I used to travel pretty far and out of the way to go to this deli for there good German style food and sandwiches. However, I can not get over the fact that with the owners blessing who gives permission to ALL his workers to handle money and food product and never changing there gloves. The health department demands that you change your gloves when ever you handle money or other foreign objects and then placing your hands again on food product. It is not interchangeable! I had a little argument when I confronted the owner and he was adamant about this. I was totally disgusted and i was grossed out to think I am eating my beacon/egg/cheese sandwich with someone's dirty money germs on my food. Sounds delicious and healthy? I am sorry but you lost a customer until you change your food handlers policy. I am considering informing the Nassau County Health Department. .....And to the crowd that was backing up the deli and threatening to call the cops on me because I was only making a stink and watching out for everyones well being - Shame on you! I've been going to this deli since I was a little girl, and it's one of the best I've ever been to. Heir potato salad is delicious and I have yet to find one that is better tasting. The staff is warm and can accommodate almost any sandwich you can imagine. Heroes are also excellent and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend it. read more

I just visited this deli and ordered a sandwich. I immediately regretted it. The man helping me grabbed the roll with no gloves and proceeded to make my sandwich after he just rang up the last customer. He used the register And handled the money without washing his hands or putting on gloves. The sandwich looked absolutely amazing and I was so hungry but I had to throw it out as soon as I walked out. I didn't say anything, I just paid, left and threw it out. He also rang me up, exchanged money and took the next customers order. I wonder how long this goes on for. This deli is awesome-- it starts with the staff who are always welcoming and friendly. They take the time to understand your order and are really well trained. The food is consistently delicious and I never worry that when I pick it up that it will be right-- they are always accurate. I call my orders in regularly, so often that they know my name by my order-- it's always fresh and hot. The deli is very clean and offers a wide range of foods-- in the summertime I order breakfast and lunch and pack it in my beach bag. I grew up around here and wanted to stop by a decent deli. This place was the most disgusting restaurant I've ever been in. The guys working were really really really unsanitary and gross. One guy had one glove, the others no gloves, but it didn't matter. No one washed their hands. They itched their face, scratched hair, through out trash, handled raw food, worked the register with cash, answered the phones, cleaned, wiped their disgusting aprongs AND THEN MADE EVERYONES FOOD. Was in there for 15 minutes and saw this going on non stop. I cannot believe they haven't been shut down yet. Ridiculous price as well, but I just through my sandwhich in the trash when I got home and warned all my friends and family. Stay far away if you care about your health at all.
