You can genuinely tell how much pride the team takes in their work and how much they enjoy coming up with fun, creative drinks. I'm not much of a bourbon drinker myself, but I have to appreciate their impressive bourbon selection and their bourbon wall is seriously beautiful! The whole place has such a laid back, welcoming vibe, and it's refreshing to find somewhere that feels a little more grown up and relaxed without being packed with a bunch of young kids. Came here on the 4th of July after a crowded night downtown. It was a nice reprieve. We were seated at the bar and immediately served. The bartender we had was nice and made an excellent whiskey sour. They have a large variety of whiskey but nothing too fancy. The prices are great and fair. Decent music - moreso soft rock with some currents and classics mixed in. They know how to make actual cocktails here unlike everyone else in the area. Not a whiskey gal but loved my experience at Old Hickory. The ambiance is moody and the bar is so impressive, love the little ladder that made it feel vintage. The service was incredible, the bartender went above and beyond to explain the drinks and make my friend an old fashioned to her liking. The martinis I had were incredible, I asked for a spicy martini and got exactly that and it was delicious. Only thing I will say is the booths didn't look super comfy, they look like they were designed for easy cleaning rather than comfort which I can't fault them for. read more

There's no aspect of a bourbon bar that Old Hickory doesn't nail. From the dark interior and the ambiance to the bourbon selection everything is top notch. One time I when I was there they had the owners of Belle Meade in there doing a presentation. This is one of the places I always drop in when I'm in Pensacola. Great place to drop a lot of cash for average drinks. We were drinking the house specials but they were too sweet. Then I changed to a Rob Roy. They did not use Italian vermouth like the recipe requires. Finally I switched to a simple jack on the rocks. They need more bartenders! They no longer offer their whiskey sampler! My wife and I decided to go out for date night last night on Palafox downtown Pensacola to the old Hickory whiskey bar. This was our first time there it seems like a nice little place where the locals go. The bar staff was very friendly. My wife got a jack and diet Coke and I got a Woodford old-fashioned the drinks were very well-made and absolutely no complaints. Prices were reasonable. The Old Hickory is one of our go-to bars in downtown Pensacola. It's a craft bar with a nice laid back and casual atmosphere. The bartenders are very nice and helpful, most importantly they make incredible drinks. We spend a lot of time in New Orleans and have grown accustomed to how many craft bars there are. I've waited a long time to be able to choose which one here in Pensacola I want to go to. I truly dislike muddled oranges and maraschino cherries in my old fashions and regular bars seem to do that. How more 1970 can you get? All I need is a good bourbon, simple syrup, bitters and an orange peel squeezed over a lit match as it is held over the the cocktail. A little zip around the rim, and then "plop" into the drink the peel goes. Perfection! Large ice is appreciated but not a requirement. H.S. really likes the varied cocktail menu here. There's lots of craft choices, some with different herbs flavoring or scenting the drinks, others with some pretty crazy flavor combinations. I believe the business allows the bartenders to come up with choices for the menu which is really cool. The menu also changes so frequently that she has completely new choices each time we go. read more

My buddy and I were referred to this place by our Bartender at Graffiti Pizza. Delicious High End Cocktails in a quaint, dimly lit Craft Cocktail Bar. Diverse mix of customers, everyone seemed to be enjoying their cocktails. It was nice having Bartenders that enjoy their craft, making tasty quality cocktails. What a hidden gem! My husband is a bourbon aficionado so when I found a whiskey bar near our AirBNB I knew he'd enjoy it. Surprisingly, I did too! I always get a bit nervous if bourbon bars will have anything I drink as someone who doesn't fancy bourbon. I had the most delicious 'Dirty Shirley' and my husband said it was the best Old Fashioned he had in a while. The atmosphere was great and the bartender was impressive. Upon walking in on a busy Friday night, we weren't sure if there was any seats open. A young bartender at the very back end of the bar waved us down where 2 bar stools were available. That small gesture of guidance saved us from leaving because we didn't see any open through the crowd of guests. I wish we caught his name because he really made our night. From the entrance help, to drink suggestions to drink quality, we'd give him a 10/10. We spent a long time reviewing their extensive bourbon list and specials. Guests seem to really enjoy their customized cocktails. You name it, they likely have it! If you can snag a bar seat, it's worth it just to watch them kick ass at their jobs. The drinks are fine, but the service is abysmal. We were in with a large group, ordered plenty of drinks, and were generous tippers. There were multiple scenarios when the bartenders complained audibly that "the bar is empty tonight" and they're "not getting enough tips". I understand the frustration from those in the service industry and that not everyone may tip well, but complaining in front of customers as they are making drinks and processing checks is not appropriate. There were also many instances in which we watched the bartenders turn around and roll their eyes or make snarky comments to one another about customers. With a city abundant with bars and locations to relax with a group, we would rather patron another business than return a place where customers are not valued. read more
