Drinking ice cold beer from a can before noon on a weekday at a historic bar on the beach, yeah sign me up - we couldn't resist stopping in and doing a self guided tour through the bars and gift shop before settling at the corner of the upstairs main bar and getting a little history on this most famous dive bar while working on a buzz. We arrived long before any of the live music, I can't say for sure if there were any scheduled musicians being it is off season so the piped in tunes worked and almost went unnoticed by those of us that believe it's always five o'clock somewhere. The staff here was very friendly, most of the crew staffed today seemed to have worked here for quite sometime and was quick to answer any questions including where's the best bar at the moment to grab a cold beverage and where's the restrooms. It's a cool place even when things aren't happening especially since no cover charge was required when we arrived and there was plenty of parking in the sandlot next door. Definitely a must stop no matter the time even if you don't partake in the day drinking paradox. How regretful and disappointing it would be to have been so close to such a historic bar and not walk through the doors...

Flora-Bama has been on my list of places to visit for ages! Finally made it in. Other posts say that it IS pet-friendly however IT IS NOT. Which is fine but just know in advance. We went for lunch and had to run the dogs home first after bad intel from another Yelp review. The space is so unique and fun. Many spaces offer nice views of the water and the beach is right there. There are plenty of opportunities for live music and other fun activities such as bingo. I tried their Bloody Mary and it was fine. Nothing special. My fiance had the Reese's bushwhacker and it was awesome!!! The oysters were maybe the saddest I've ever had in my life. So small and flavorless. My advice would be to skip those! The birria bites were delicious and so were the pretzel bites. Overall, a nice experience!

Great fun place with live music! We hopping on a Sunday night, don't remember who the musician was - but he was great. I tried the bushwhacked and it was strong, but you'd like it if you liked the taste of rum. My favorite drink was the frozen key lime drink. $5 cover charge

It's always a good time to visit Flora-Bama! Love live music and the whole vibe. We ordered a dozen raw oysters which were delicious to start. Hubs ordered the Polish sausage sandwich and said it was very good! He loved the sautéed onions and green peppers that were served on top. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were pretty tasty. Both orders came with fries. After we ate, we grabbed a couple of drinks and headed out to the beach and enjoyed the live music and the gorgeous view. It was a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Rhonda hart is the funniest bingo caller! Highly recommend her game. She is funny, brings fun prices, and well is it florabama at the beach.

Absolutely amazing place with the best vibe you can imagine. Would easily put this as my favorite bar I've ever been to, not "one of my favorites". Massive, historic country decor, and just great overall physical building. But that's barely the start. The live music is the best, great live country music inside and another band outside. Way better than the hipster grunge house music or whatever it's called you get at most bars in Austin. And the drinks--very cheap for such a popular, historic bar basically on the beach. The kind of prices you'd expect to get at some dive in the middle of nowhere Michigan. And maybe most importantly, everyone who works there was SO nice. Always smiling, sweet, and looked genuinely like very kind, caring, and happy people. It's definitely partly just the culture of the area, but so refreshing after constantly dealing with bar tenders in Austin who act like they're doing you a favor doing their jobs and just service workers in general in Austin who act annoyed that you even showed up at their establishment (not all but a lot, and no where comes anywhere close the the genuine kindness of the people who work here). And the other bar goers were so nice too. Like you could just make a mundane comment and strangers would smile and engage and talk to you. Not just snort at you and walk away. Very outgoing, extroverted and friendly people. And people would literally say "my bad"/apologize if they bumped into you on the packed dance floor, and say "excuse me" when they tap you on the shoulder to squeeze by. Like what?? That's insanely nice, never seen that anywhere else before. And we're not talking like elderly people, literally college kids and young people on a packed dance floor acting like this.

What an awesome place. So much fun. Great music. Really neat atmosphere, ambience, and decor. Love their Bushwhackers. So good. Service is really good. Nice people. Prices are reasonable. I enjoyed their gift shop too. I did not have their food. Only drinks.

Can't go wrong with florabama. We came with a huge group and were waitlisted but eventually seated 20 minutes later on a Saturday night. Totally reasonable. Food was mediocre. Drinks were even better. Watermelon margarita and bushwhacker were the group's favorites.

    Clifford H.

It was packed. The music was loud. The beer was cold.It is everything you thought it was and then some.It also has food, but I didn't eat.The band was loud and rocked. You have to visit the Flora-Bama because. This will be a reoccurring stop for The Working Man Review.

Went for lunch on a weekday and not too crowded. Sat outside under a big tent at picket tables. It was hot but they had big fans for air flow. Order at the drink or food counter. You are going for the experience of the bar. Food was so so bar food. Bushwacker frozen drink was good.

This joint is an all outdoor patio seating all the time joint covered with a tent so be prepared if you can't handle it to go somewhere else. The also have a beach area on the Ole River which has some picnic tables. If there is space you can pull your boat up and dock right next to the restaurant. The service here is far better at Flora-Bama Yacht Club than next door at Flora-Bama Ole River Grill. This place is really popular so there is often a wait to get seated at a table while bar seating is open but that can also fill up fast during high season. They have a concise menu here that focuses on seafood and sandwiches along with a few out of the ordinary surprises that you usually don't find in most of the other area restaurants. I've had the Mahi-Mahi Reuben which was alright but I think I would've preferred one of the fish entrees much more. The fried seafood ranges from some of the spiciest and best tasting I've ever had to more bland so that is inconsistent. Of late the fried seafood options have really DECLINED with zero spice and they have stopped offering oysters on the menu. The fried chicken tenders have declined to the point they are simply awful now and have zero flavor. My favorite things on the menu here would be the Triple-Tail on top of a bed of green beans and then they have the BEST chocolate cake in the area with their Double-Decker Tuxedo Cake (don't bother with the cake next door at Flora-Bama Ole River Grill as it doesn't compare to this one). The burger here could stand some improvement as I like a New Orleans style big and thick patty that is full of juicy delicious beef flavor. They also have a gift shop here that carries some merchandise that they don't have across the street in the original Flora-Bama gift shop and some of the Yacht Club merch is also not listed on the main Flora-Bama online website while some of it is so you really have to visit the Yacht Club gift shop to see the full selection. Some Flora-Bama shirts have "Flora-Bama" in a large print then have a smaller different logo underneath for the three main spots of the original Flora-Bama, Yacht Club and Ole River Grill. None of the shops in the area carry the little round batteries you need if your car remote dies... don't ask me how I know as it was a painful experience. Overall Flora-Bama Yacht Club has been one of my favorite spots to grab a meal in the area and its a perfect location to eat before heading over for the live music at the original Flora-Bama. The recent decline in the food this season is concerning to me. Flora-Bama continues on its conquest of Perdido Key and the rest of the Redneck Riviera so I fully expect them to take over the region soon and then we can have Flora-Bama World... well somebody should probably write a song about that at least.

We were able to snag a couch area on a platform. It was so comfy and we loved the views. A heads up- if you snag a couch like this, kids will get up on the platform and jump off of it. People will step up on the platform and walk extremely close to you. I had to ask a kid to stop throwing sand by us because we were eating our dinner. It was a little chaotic. We were extremely patient and understand, but I could see some people being very upset and annoyed. After ordering, our food came out pretty quick. I started with the coconut grouper bites and they were phenomenal. Light breading, lightly sweat, and flaky. I had the Gulf Grilled Cobia and it was phenomenal. The fish was tender, flaky, and light. No fishiness at all. The sauce on the fish was also delightful. My husband and son had the fajita skewers and both enjoyed them. My husband also had the peel and eat shrimp and said they were amazing at The Gulf. Our drinks were okay. We had better drinks at other places during the week, but they weren't bad. It was very hot and humid on this day. So, I order a Coconut and Pineapple Mojito, so cool and refreshing. We like to try something different each time we visit. Our waitress recommended the Chicken Roulade. We both ordered the Chicken Roulade. It was really delirious. Waitresses/manager also came by twice to ask us how we liked our food. Restaurant is clean and health rating is excellent too. Love all beautiful painting. Restaurant has covered outdoor patio and live band most of time.

It can be hit or miss depending on what you order however, we have been enough to know and share with others what to order and what to stay away from. The following is from our most recent visit. We began the meal with a Cosmo and a Fairhope Brewery Blue Steel Sour. Both were very good. The Blue Steel sour has notes of blueberry. For an appetizer we ordered the cheese dip. It consist of three cheeses, including Gruyere, which is one of our favorites. The cheese also comes with feta cheese and a tomato relish over the top, which we find very good. It makes the cheese dip a little different than others. The tomatoes are very soft and the relish is on the sweeter side. My Wife got the chicken roulade. It was okay. The chicken was good however, it is wrapped in bacon and flash fried. In our opinion the flash fry isn't needed and it adds the risk of the bacon being overdone or burnt, which is what happened. The Parmesan risotto was a little gummy but had good flavor. The cream sauce that accompanied the dish was probably the best part. I got the fish sandwich and upgraded from sheepshead to grouper. You can get it fried, blackened or grilled. I chose grilled and it was really good. It was not the first time I have gotten the fish sandwich. The bun is a sourdough/Hawaiian roll hybrid. I got an order of fries to go with the fish sandwich. Their fries are really really. They're slightly battered and crunchy. Very good with ketchup or tartar sauce or both! If you visit I would suggest sticking to the fish sandwich, burger or fish dish (grilled/blackened) that comes with a cream based sauce. Their drinks and beer is selection really good as well. Most of the time on weekends they have live music if that's your kind of thing.
