I visited in snowy March. You might feel you're out in the boonies and wondering if you're maybe gonna get killed... but you'll only be killed with a really really good selection of brews in a very cool inviting setting. Owned and operated by its brewmaster, the place offers good environs with fellow patrons and Eric the brewmaster. A great find and worth the seeking out. Each brew I sampled tasted great, but I settled on an IPA. The place also supports fellow local businesses by displaying goods such as a local distillery and I believe soap products.

Spontaneous trip to a random brewery, We found a great selection of beers. Left with a few bottle of the Spook Rock IPA, I wish I would have brought my growlers for their Nitro Stout, Klaverack Krem ale and the Red Mills Amber that we're all fantastic. They all paired well with the home made apple jack cake slice we had which was enormous.! Definitely will be coming back.

The employees were friendly and seemed genuinely interested in engaging in conversation with their patrons. Their restroom is all-gender with a large shared sink area. It was clean with multi-stalls that are very private from floor to ceiling. They have a parking lot which was nice compared to street parking a lot of other places. This place seems great for large groups of people especially in nice weather as there is ample room outside for everyone! I didn't realize there was a downstairs until we were leaving, but it looked like such a fun place for groups to also hang out! Would definitely visit here again!

There is however just one thing about it which rankles, and makes me less likely to return. Namely: The staff seem to have been instructed to demand aggressively that you pay up front--or swipe your card before you've even been served. Even if you're sitting at the bar (not outside). Problem 1: Tips should be based on the service rendered. I can't know what the service was like until we're done. So that forces patrons to choose the "run a tab" option even if just dropping in for one beer. Problem 2: This policy feels needlessly suspicious and hostile, as if USB doesn't trust their (almost exclusively well-heeled) clientele to pay. And this isn't some busy NYC bar where people occasionally walk on tabs. And bowhere else I've been in Hudson does this. If Governor's or Padrona tried it, regulars would look at the server like an extraterrestrial. Management might want to take a chill pill and try trusting their patrons more; Hudson is still a small town. Take the order, do a good job, give us a bill when we're ready... After the drinks and food are finished.

A tale of 4 breweries…read more So we tried to visit the brewery (#1) across the street for a flight and some food. It closed at 4, then we were going to have a beer at Return (#2) which opened at 4. The first place closed early (before 3:30pm), so we had some time to check out another spot (#3) a bit of a drive away. (5 min). The other place seemed fine, but since my spouse said the 4pm spot was good, we went back. Second customers in after opening, and I asked if they had any food or flights. He very politely told me that they did not have flights or food (tonight, but they did have some bagged snacks) and told me another brewery (#4) had both those things a short distance away (5-10 min/a few blocks). After chatting with the spouse (she and 3 kids had entered), we decided to stay. (Also, as a fun side-note, #4 is the one spouse thought she was taking us to.) We shared half a pilsner (Polished), half a gose (Speed Dial), and half an IPA (Westwhere). The Pilsner ended up being our 3rd favorite, but they were all tasty. We are not big drinkers, so we felt the 1.5 beers each! And since we were staying, we picked up a mandarin soda for the kids to share (special treat) and we all munched on a bit of popcorn, beef jerky, and Zapp's chips. It ended up being a great time! Very affordable, low-key, solid tunes, and super kid friendly. It's a big space, so noisy children are not too noticeable. Also, the man running the bar, again, was super cool. Highly recommend!

"We don't have a cocktail menu, but we can make anything you'd like."…read more That was one of the first things our server told us, and honestly, it was refreshing. These days, it feels like every bar has a cocktail menu full of creatively named drinks that require reading a list of ingredients just to figure out what you're ordering. At Governor's Tavern, if you want a gin and tonic, you simply ask for a gin and tonic. The only decision you need to make is which gin you'd like. I'm not much of a cocktail person, but I appreciate that not every place feels the need to reinvent the wheel. The place was packed at lunchtime, but we got lucky and grabbed a pair of seats across from the bar. The server who I quoted was genuinely friendly and welcoming. I ordered a Guinness, but unfortunately the keg had just kicked. She recommended the Samuel Smith chocolate stout instead and even brought me a sample before I committed to taste since I never heard of it, which was a nice touch. For food, we ordered the State Grill burger and the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, and each came with Belgian-style hand-cut fries. If you're spending the day browsing the boutiques and antique shops along Warren Street and want a drink, a good meal, and a lively mix of locals and tourists, Governor's Tavern is worth a stop.

Only a few people appear to have ordered food here. Basically, the place appears to be a watering hole. Only app.metered parking in the area.

The focaccia was baked perfectly, with just the right amount of seasoning. The biggest surprise, though, was the mussels. They arrived already removed from the shells, which I wasn't expecting, but they ended up being the standout dish of the meal. The prawns were good, while the pork chop had nice flavor, though I wish it had been a little juicier. The toffee pudding is highly recommended. Overall, it was a solid meal in a comfortable setting.

Geoff ended up running our tour and was so nice and patient. We are a bit, um, loud sometimes but Geoff made sure to get the best angles with every group picture and even picked up our untimely food order so we wouldn't miss the last tasting. He was also extremely knowledgeable about local wine! **THE EXPERIENCE** It was a gorgeous fall Saturday. I highly recommend taking this trip in October, as the foliage was breathtaking. Milea Vineyard, our first stop, felt like a mansion, and the tasting room was sunlit and gorgeous. Clinton Vineyards was more of a country farmhouse, and our group had a private tasting with the owner, Phyllis, who is a super interesting woman. The last, Milbrook, was a bit busy, but the property has a cute lake and food, and before the tasting, you can check out the vineyard and store. Again HIGHLY recommended! Especially for a bachelorette party, birthday, or girls weekend getaway!

It was hard in the past to find places for all of us but now it's even more difficulty because we still have my extremely picky BIL who has stomach issues, GERD, and a multitude of other issues, and now we have a vegan-ish person who tries to stay vegan but eats cheese, dairy, and eggs. So finding places to satisfy everyone is more complicated. This place met our needs and can meet yours: dog friendly, vegetarian options, and has something for even the pickiest of people. Me and another person got the strip steak, my husband got the Philly cheesesteak, MIL got the wunderbar burger, FIL got salmon burger, the vegan-ish got a veggie burger and one of the salads, which he split with his wife the SIL, and my picky BIL got the chicken sandwich. He freaked out over the sandwich because he wanted to know why it was moist and not dry. His partner and I were like, "You can have fully-cooked, moist chicken. Dry chicken isn't the only cooked option." But he continued to have a meltdown over his perfectly cooked chicken. He did eat it though. Family can drive you nuts sometimes. Anyways, despite the meltdown, I think we were all satisfied with our food. I did find the mashed potato on the steak to be very creamy but everything else on the plate was very good. Steak was cooked medium-rare liked I asked. Overall, the place is very good, excellent food, excellent service, and it was a busy night.
