Drop by here for a drink and some snacks. The venue is medium sized but there's plenty of outdoor space if it's not raining. It appears to be dog friendly as well. It was self service at the counter. We were disappointed that the onion rings were only offered on certain days but we were able to get some pretzels and beers. I do like that you can order a half pour/small glass to try different beers. I liked the Heritage grape ale framhouse beer a lot but also unfortunately they did not carry them in cans to take away. First thing you see pulling up to Subversive Brewing is gravel. A whole front lot of it. And behind that, those tall industrial beer tanks. The gravel path pulls you in towards their outdoor area with picnic tables under big black+white umbrellas and there's a tent with white lights that'll be straight-up cozy once the sun goes down. You order at the bar, keep a tab if you're settling in and grab one of those tall number poles so they know where to bring your food. Inside, it's all high-tops and a clear view of the tanks cranking out their beer. Even though I've never been a beer drinker, I didn't mind coming to Subversive B's. Their online menu looked promising especially their vegetarian options. Though it wouldn't hurt if they threw in some seafood options too- but hey. I aimed for the Mediterranean Platter but I was told they "were all out". Grilled cheese the way I noticed online? Nope. Not in here. At this point, I didn't know how else to feel but resorted to their sweet potato+black bean tacos with red onions and Cotija. They slapped actually. Hubs tore into his buffalo wings and these Bavarian pretzels that were ridiculously soft and addictive. He washed it down with an ale, I stuck with a canned Paloma that hit harder than expected. The service is nice. The menu situation? Kinda irritating. Between the "we're out" moments and the website vs. reality mismatch, it's hard not to feel a little side-eyed about it. Awesome brewery with great food and atmosphere too! I visited on a Sunday night in the winter and was blown away with the ample outdoor space complete with fire pits and comfortable seating. It was so warm and cozy to sit outdoors, which was awesome. My boyfriend ordered a beer and I opted for the hot apple cider. We also ordered wings, which were absolutely delicious. You order at the bar and they give you a number if you order food. We were really impressed with their ample food menu and great selection of beers and non alcoholic options. A small inside but nice outdoor space that was pretty poppin on the Saturday we ventured over. The food and beer was a hit. Nice portion size. Being that the inside is so small it was kind of awkward that the one waitstaff would just be standing waiting by the kitchen(?) It helped to achieve quick service as he was just right there and but also made it feel like he was just watching us eat. I noted that they have a sign on the door to not bring dogs inside yet allowed several people to do so which was annoying. These were clearly not service animals as they were jumping on people and not obedient to their owners. All in all we would probably come back in warmer weather and try the outdoor space. read more

Food so good it feels like an injustice to call it "bar food". The spinach dip and fries were top tier. Great brews according to my partner, and for my sober azz a soda with bitters always works (also have sodas and spindrifts). Staff was friendly and trivia was truly a good time! A nice village hangout spot, with plenty of options for food, drinks, and patio seating, which I think is the best part! I had their pretty pink beer slushie, made from their Forbidden Fruit Black Currant Sour Ale, and a classic burger with fries. It's a good quality burger with crispy fries. On a warm night, the slushie was the perfect complement to the meal. For a brewery, there's a number of other stuff on the menu if you don't want a burger or need a vegetarian option. After my entire family's order, it didn't take long for all the food to come out. I did not mind enjoying the chill atmosphere and green surroundings while we waited. Definitely nice for a date, guys or girls night out. It just happened to be Oktoberfest the day my friends and I came. They offered an Oktoberfest menu for food. Not sure what the food offerings are otherwise as I didn't see another menu. For my beer I went with the local lager. It was light and an easy drinking beer. Their pour sizes are different...7.5 oz, 13 oz or 18 oz. Prices were decent as well. It was $10 for an 18 oz pour. I would be back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

I discovered this place last summer and it's quickly become one of my favorite local spots when we're in the Hudson valley. My family has a wide range of beer preferences and their rotating draft list has something for everyone - though I'm a fan of their New England IPAs and sours myself. Every time I've been there's a little tent outside the brewery with an impressive pizza oven serving a rotating menu of amazing wood-fired pizzas. I was absolutely blown away by how good these are and they're the perfect pairing for the awesome beer this place has on tap. I think they've opened up a full kitchen since I was last here, so I'm dying to go back and give it a try. There's a ton of outdoor seating and a charming heated tent + fire places make it accessible in the winter. The indoor seating is minimal, but I've never needed it. There's a little parking lot + tons of street parking and dogs are allowed outside, so this place is a win all around in my book. read more

Subversive Malting and Brewing in Catskill is a local brewery amongst the only in the world that produce their malts via Floor Malting. We had a flight of beer along with a classic smash burger and pulled pork sandwich. We enjoyed the brews made with locally sourced ingredients and couldn't help picking up four packs of the NY Nectar (Hazy IPA) and Tiny Glasses (Kölsch-style ale) for the road. We came here after a beautiful hike at the Kaarterskill trail. The place was busy. Food came out quickly. However, we asked for well done burgers and they were half cooked. When he asked them to give us well done burger as they explain how they do this burgers. We could visible see the burger wasn't well done. We walked over from downtown Catskill to Subversive brewery for a long over due hangout by the fire pit. Excellent beer selection to stay or to go, all made with NYS local (hops). Pretty good spot. They make the most of the plot of land they have with outdoor seating with fire pits, a heated tent, and some seating indoors. I tried the porter, and it was good. Nothing special, but good. They do have a food menu. Definitely, the best thing is the burger, in my opinion. I tried a bunch of different things. Stay away from the Gruyère Brussel sprouts. They are just under roasted Brussel sprouts with a plop of cheese on top that congeals into a blob. Not very appetizing. The burger was good though. I found the bartenders to be very surly. There was no warm greeting, no assistance with any beers, and that did change my opinion of the place. It would be way better if it was a warm and inviting atmosphere. read more

Food: I had the bacon cheeseburger and the French fries. The burger was cooked well, a little to greasy for me and the rook was hard on the bottom and I almost choked on a piece. The French fries I could make in my oven, nothing new. Service: the service was very quick and pleasant. Ambiance: Not so much. Now I realize it hasn't been open to long but a paint job, nice fencing along the back would be nice. Amazing little brewery that we found after hiking in the area. There is really a beverage here for everyone. I had the pub ale and Field Feast which were both 10/10. My wife enjoyed the black currant sour and the Heritage Grape Ale - also a 10/10. There is such beautiful and abundant outdoor space which is perfect for groups or a date. There is also a couple of tables inside. When we went we sat outside and a small band was playing which was lovely. We also ordered food to go which was perfection, so perfect in fact we forgot to take photos of it because it was so delicious! We got an impossible burger and a regular burger, both with mushrooms and Swiss, side salads, and fries with two dipping sauces, BBQ sauce and garlic aioli. I really enjoy the vibe of this brewery. It is built in an old garage and has nice outdoor and indoor seating. Of course I understand that people go to breweries to enjoy their beer or IPAs, but this brewery has a rather limited selection of non-beer/IPA alcoholic drink options. That being said, their moscow mule is very tasty. Their food is actually the star of the show for me. Their french fries are tasty and they have a good selection of sauces, many of which are quite unique. Their chicken sandwich is incredibly good and is very filling. We scored the last parking spot in the lot directly outside the brewery. The outdoor patio was inviting with lighting greenery and logo displays on the facada. There was a ton of seating available with many fire pits and adirondack chairs. The tent had several tables and was warm on a chilly evening. The bartender answered my questions about the floor malting and even let me peak at the malting floor. I like the small drink portions and it allowed me to try the Kolsch and Sour. I recommended ordering the Mushroom Swiss burger with fries, it was crack. Tons of flavor, nice bun and plenty of sauteed mushrooms. We took home two 4 packs from the cooler which was well stocked with 6 varieties to go. The prices are also very reasonable for a craft micro brewery. Five stars all the way. read more

Amateurish home-brew quality beer. Flex space taproom that apparently doesn't need to be mopped after a brew day and a forklift almost sitting at your table.
