Randy was the assistant to her and they were both providing me with an exemplary experience for my 50th birthday. This is one of the more elevated dining experiences you will find on the island of Maui. Breathtaking views of the ocean sunsets are incredible. When dinner service begins. There is a native Hawaiian who blows a conch shell with a small ceremony to celebrate the evening and to pay homage to the true owners of this island the native Hawaiians. I started out with the Tchin Tchin cocktail, amazing delicate flavor, not too sweet. I then had to try their seared Ahi on the rock appetizer where they bring you a piping hot rock and fresh Aji you cook the Aji on the rock yourself and it comes with three different incredible dipping sauces. Then I had the lobster tempura dish for my main meal combined with grilled monchong. This is one of the best dishes I think I've ever had in my life. The fish was so light and buttery and juicy and flaky, and the lobster cooked to perfection, and I was very skeptical because were breading this lobster and tempura and there's such a risk of over cooking and that did not happen here I was super super pleased. I then went with the Pinoy honey toast for dessert with a side of Ube ice cream also incredible. The service here for me was second to none. My cousin and I were excited to go to their Sunday Brunch. I've been several years ago and it was delicious. This was his 1st time. I saw the Sunday Brunch deal on my Facebook with a Free Pool Pass for the month of June! We couldn't pass that up. Because we went on the very last Sunday in June, it was real busy with visitors staying at the hotel and locals alike taking advantage of this Summer deal so we expected it. We got maybe 2-3 plates each. My cousin took advantage of the proteins first. He went straight to get the Ko Rosemary Crusted Prime Rib with the Horseradish and Au Jus which was delicious and our top favorite. He wasn't a big fan of the Mochiko Chicken, he said it was a bit dry. I started off with the selection of appetizers like the Ulu & Potato Mac Salad, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Waipoli Baby Greens with Papaya Seed Dressing and Poi! I loved it all. I was pretty naive and put the scrambled eggs and Braised Short Ribs on my plate but didn't realize it was a Loco Moco station lol! That was a fail but the Braised Short Ribs was so tender and is a must if you go. Make sure you make yourself a Loco Moco lol! Other favorites was the Lavender Honey Crispy Shrimp (because there was so many people I got the bottom of the bowl but they refilled it right after), Pork Shumai with Mustard Sauce, and Longanisa (Filipino Sausage with Garlic and Vinegar) with Onions. My coworker told me his stomach got upset from the Ahi a few months ago so I kinda stayed away from the Seared Ahi station (and I love ahi) except for the Vegetable and California Rolls and the Shumai. I took one Kimchee Shrimp just to try but the shrimp didn't taste the best sadly. I was also looking forward to the Pancakes station since I read there's Banana Pancakes and Chantilly Sauce! I do love me some Chantilly but it was mini Regular Pancakes with Strawberry, Lilikoi (Passion Fruit) Butter, and Syrup. I was a bit disappointed but the desserts didn't disappoint and was a hit. Our favorites were the Guava Chiffon Cake which was light and creamy, Hokkaido Cheese Tart, Calamansi Tartelettes and also the Paniolo Banana Rum Cake. I love small desserts-less waste and definitely leaving you satisfied when done right! One of my favorite restaurants, and first stops when I visit Maui. Unfortunately, the new menu is subpar compared to the last. I always came in to get The ahi rock has changed drastically. Very little flavor, it's nowhere near as good as it once was. Such a shame, as the last menu had several of my favorite dishes. The service has been great and always is great. But this was my last time here. Due to the new menu being subpar and quite frankly really expensive. 4 adults $800. Only 2 alcoholic beverages. Just way more than anyone wants to spend on a subpar dinner. The renovations look great, definitely improved. So we'll give them credit on that. read more

One of the best meals I had when my family visited Maui. Came right after our flight in and it was amazing!! Everything was so flavorful and the meat was cooked perfectly. We got a couple of dishes and I loved them all. Especially the Hawaiian style beef cheek and poi stew, octopus, and the seafood laulau!! The beef was super tender and paired nicely with the sauce. The hotel is beautiful when arriving. When we approached the restaurant, I didn't expect it to be open air seating. I thought it was enclosed. We were greeted and seated quickly. The spread of the brunch buffet is not as grand as other buffets. They have sections for breakfast items, local food items, raw fish, poke, sushi, dessert, and a carving station. The carving station was roast beef. Of the dishes enjoyed were the roast beef, local dishes, and poke. The roast beef was cooked good but needed salt. The creamy horseradish sauce and ad jus added additional flavor but not the saltiness I needed. The char sui and mochiko chicken were also tasty. The tuna poke and spicy shrimp poke were also good. As it was a nice day, it was enjoyable to be seated outside. It was not hot nor the sun blazing above. Our table overlook the swimming pool area. Haven't been to Kō since the menu change and was excited to try the new items. Seafood Lau Lau: everything was cooked to perfection and broth was very tasty (ask for a side of white rice!) It came with a side of Lomi Tomatoe and Sweet Potato Mash but it could honestly do without those two. Korean Short Ribs: very tasty and soft. Kim Chee Fried rice and the banchans it came with was good too. Everything went well together. Grandma's Kasumi's Fried Chicken: chicken had a good crust on it! It's a big portion of chicken as well, plus everything it came with is filling. Pinoy Honey Toast: wasn't what we were expecting. The Corn flavored ice cream is interesting, wasn't our cup of tea. The Ube Ice Cream was lacking Ube flavoring. Kulolo Malasadas: it would have been so so good if there was more Kulolo in it and less of the Coconut Cream, or have the Coconut Cream as a dipping sauce. I researched the best restaurants in Wailea before our trip, and dining at Ko turned out to be one of the most special and memorable experiences of our stay. We were seated at an exceptional table overlooking the adults-only pool. As evening fell and the tiki torches were lit, the view over the water was quietly magical. Our server, Connie, was genuinely warm and welcoming. She surprised us with a Happy Anniversary card featuring a painting of the hotel, signed by 30 Ko staff members. Each signature was done with care and personality--one even whimsically shaped like a cat. I loved it so much that I have the card hanging in my home. Connie explained the menu clearly and thoughtfully, including several items we hadn't encountered before. We started with the venison lumpia, an elevated take on a spring roll, and shared the wagyu lettuce wraps. Sharing was the right choice--the dish came with four types of lettuce, yuzu leaves, fern greens, a rectangular pan of rice, and more than enough beautifully prepared wagyu for two. Earlier in the week, a guest I met at a lei-making class mentioned she had ordered the wagyu steak at Ko twice. I understand why. For dessert, the strawberry--shaped like an actual strawberry--was both beautiful and inventive, light rather than heavy, and a perfect ending. This place is absolutely delicious. Not only is the view hard to beat, but the staff and food are impeccable as well. Came here with some friends who happened to be on Maui at the same time we were. Took a date night to go out with them and decided upon this place. Our server told us that they had just changed the menu over, and while many things on the menu were unfamiliar to us, she was fabulous at explaining them! We had the ahi appetizer as well as egg rolls. Both were absolutely wonderful. The ahi was fun as you cooked it yourself on a hot rock. Upon her recommendations, two of us ended up ordering the fish & lobster and two of us ended up ordering the ssam dish. They loved their ssam. For entrées we ordered the Seafood Laulau, braised short ribs, and the crispy kona kanpachi. The seafood was fresh, hummus and the kanpachi was a wonderful bite together. Really a wonderful meal tonight we started off with some sushi, which had Ahi at the center and a tempura outside finish. My parter had Shiso sour and I had the little Koi Lilikoi margarita both were good flavorful, but not overpowering. It's a nice open air restaurant, and we got to see the holiday decorations from our table. My partner had the lobster tempura and I had the mar jon fish mine came with some local mushrooms that were super tasty and I love the texture. Cas our server was attentive and warm. She did a little mini wine tasting for us of what would go best with our fish. She recommended for dessert the ultimate banana bread which is topped with fantastic homemade ice cream and rum sauce. Wow!!! Such fantastic views!! Figure out what time sunset will be and get yourself to a table to catch the incredible views! The food was fantastic! We got the lau lau and the Mahi Mahi special. All fantastic but what really took the cake (or the bread) was the dessert. The banana bread is something my partner will still not shut up about and will tell anyone who will listen even now - 3 months after our visit. The service was hit and miss. The manager was phenomenal and checked on us and joked with us. He did a great job of making sure everyone was having a good time. Our server seemed to keep forgetting about us. He was super at attentive to another couple who sat down after us, ordered after us, and got each of their courses before us. It wasn't a kitchen issue, he just kept checking on them more and forgetting about us even though we were just a table over from them. We dined here twice during our stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani and had amazing experiences both times. The first time we came for dinner we were served by Z who provided exceptional service. He took his time in explaining the different items on the menu and was very attentive. We got the octopus appetizer to start, which was light and delicious! For entrees I got the mahi mahi in the lemongrass curry which was overall good, the curry was delicious though the mahi mahi was a bit plain. Hubby got the lau lau and enjoyed it. Presentation was beautiful! The second time we came for dinner during a super busy evening but they were able to get us in at the bar (our fault for not making reservations). I didn't get the names of the bartenders but it was a man and a woman and they were both great at checking on us and providing anything we needed. We got the lavender honey shrimp as an appetizer - AMAZING, so crisp and flavorful. I ordered the pancit for my entree which was flavorful, the steak and shrimp were great and the noodles and sauce it came with were delicious! Hubby got the rib eye and said his steak was one of the best steaks he's ever had. We had the banana bread dessert and YUM it was delicious without being overly sweet, the perfect way to end the meal. The food did take a little while to come out but it was super busy. Since we were staying at the Fairmont, our daughter who is under 2 ate here for free. She enjoyed her beef skewer entree (we got this both times)! There was football on the TVs behind the bar and some hotel guests that may have had a few too many drinks. There was also live music on the night we came, which was nice. But overall confusing vibe when compared to the price point and marketing of the restaurant itself. Service could have been faster but staff seemed spread thin. Was not busy on a Thursday night in November. If you're looking for an island time restaurant and diverse atmosphere, Ko is definitely worth a visit for the food. We loved the food and service at this restaurant on Wailea, Maui. It's part of the Fairmont Hotel, so it is pricy, but we thought it was a great splurge. The Mai tai was so yummy! Sweet and flavorful. We had the Mauka harvest salad. This was prepared with really lovely greens, fern shoots, hearts of palm, and roasted macadamias. I could have this and nothing else and I would have been happy. But did I? Of course not! Next my sons had the fish of the day course and they liked that. I had the vegan udon noodles and they were stunning! Of course I ate the entire bowl. I could've also stopped there, but I was on a roll (and on vacation), so we had dessert. It was an amazing house made banana bread soaked in rum with vanilla ice cream and a crumble on top. I've gained 5 lbs just writing this. Maybe I am biased for value? The Pork Belly Buns ($24) were small and dry. The bacon jam was a nice touch and the sesame buns were unique. Not too fatty just right with a good sour pickle topping that balanced the fish. The shrimp is probably my favorite and the batter was light with a very tasty aioli sauce (I think) The octopus was definitely not something I would order again and was just kind of mid. I forgot to take a photo of the rib eye steak and that was amazing as well. I would order it a temp under what you normally get (ordered rare and came out medium rare) also ordered medium rare and it was pretty much medium well done. Located in the Fairmont hotel, Kō serves up contemporary island food with casual vibes (but not a casual price tag!). We made a reservation for dinner just before sunset, and while there wasn't a great view of the beach, the open air dining still made watching the sunset possible. Service was super friendly and accommodating. Our server had no trouble giving us recommendations and telling us about his favorite dishes on the menu. We ordered a slew of items to try: Ahi on the Rock, Kinilaw Octopus, Seafood Lau Lau, Venison, Korean Braised Short Ribs, Lobster Tempura, and some desserts. The major winners were the Ahi on the Rock and Lobster Tempura, although everything was tasty in its own right. Ahi on the Rock. Four hearty pieces of raw ahi tuna come with a scalding hot rock that you use to sear your own piece. Honestly, it's Hawaii, so you expect the ahi to be fresh, but something about the novelty of searing your own fish was satisfying and memorable. Lobster Tempura. The major shocker of the evening. The breading was perfectly crispy and not too thick, and the lobster tail itself was cooked well and not rubbery at all. This came highly recommended by our server, but I think we all had our doubts until we tried a piece. The trio of sauces (pineapple sweet chile + miso aioli + calamansi soy) also took it to the next level. There were several specials that we chose, a trio of sea scallops, prawns and Mahi, marinated Seared pork chops with noodles and a Seafood pasta were ordered as tastings. From The gentleman who refilled our water to our waitress, who served us most the night, they were on top of it, kind, and just all around fantastic. The seat we were in was kind of back in a corner, so not much to look at, and definitely no view. Not even of the pool. Which was a tad disappointing. The food was delicious. I got the chicken red curry and my friend got the lavender honey shrimp and we all enjoyed the food. Even our little ones really enjoyed it. My gin cocktail was also delicious. This place was so expensive though. We chose it because it had two dollar signs when looking up what price range they fell in, but it was definitely more than that. My daughter and I shared the chicken red curry and I got one cocktail and my bill was $80. So, if you're open to spending a pretty penny for food, that is great, but not exceptional then this is a great place to do it. I mean, I got chicken and spent a good amount. Even the pork chop was $50+. I probably won't go back. I think the food and service were great, but it was really Overpriced. read more
