Mirror ordered from this company (Old Line Glass & Mirror) arrived broken. Subsequently, the business refused to refund my deposit.

With regards to the heating of our home, the windows were no better than screens. I reached out, looking for windows and installers. I had a few people come in and estimate the job. None of them impressed me until Greg from Windows on Washington came over. He walked me through several options and explained how the windows they used were manufactured and why. Windows on Washington got the job. My windows and my doors were being manufactured. So they sent out a wonderful gentleman to get the final accurate measurements. Great guy. After that, communication was wonderful as were were assessed of the stage we were in. This included when we got the email and calls explaining that, since we were on a higher floor, they needed to bring in some equipment to lift the new doors up to our balcony. No surprises. Installation day was amazing as Joon and his team came in, got everything into place, and cleaned up the areas to better than when they got here. Joon then went over the features on our windows and even explained how we get to and clean the outsides of the glass. Wonderful man and amazing team. Since then, we have gotten copies of our warranty and the guarantees. And the company has reached out twice to ask if we have any questions and to ensure that we are happy with our windows. We are. We are very happy with our windows. Almost as happy as we are with the people who got them into our home.

I am retired, but up until a few years ago I held a commercial/residential Home Improvement…read moreContractor's license in Virginia. I have never installed a complete roof. First of all, Home Genius Exteriors (HGE) is not a roofing company. It is a nationally-franchised marketing and sales company that writes contracts for roof replacements and then subcontracts with actual roofing companies to do the work. The HGE people you deal with may never have installed a roof in their life. You are placing a lot of trust in people who, in my experience, are clueless about the subtle aspects of creating a waterproof roof. Although they say they "vetted" their subcontractors, that is a hollow promise. I would not recommend HGE to anyone unless they themselves are experienced in construction techniques and have the time to oversee all of the work. To begin with, the salesman, J. Holm, was definitely high pressure with the usual scare tactics (you NEED to repair your roof immediately), and an offer of a reduced cost if I signed immediately. I went ahead and signed because under Virginia's "Right to Cancel" law you have 3 days to cancel the contract. Once signed, I never talked to the sales guy again. My case was passed to a welcome lady, then to a lady who said she was the project coordinator, and then to the first "project manager" (PM). I never met any of those people, but they assured me that "their crew" would satisfy all of my worries. Yah, sure. The HGE PM arranged to have all the materials delivered to my house. The PM said "their crew" would arrive at 7:00 am the next day, and indeed they did. It was then I learned that they did not work at HGE; they were subcontractors. I asked them to check the weather because it was supposed to rain. They did, and said they didn't work in the rain, and left. The HGE "project manager" (PM) called me later and said the workers would arrive two days later. He never visited my home. I covered the material with a tarp myself. Two days later at 7:00AM the workers did arrive and said their boss was ill, but they said they would start work anyway. I was astounded that HGE did not have a project manager on duty to oversee the work. I called the HGE PM (I think I woke him up) and asked who was in charge and how could I be sure that my worries would be addressed. The HGE PM told me that he was "busy," so he was handing my case off to another PM who might stop by noon! It took a couple of phone calls and "convincing" language to get the two managers (the new guy, Issac Agyemang, from HGE and the subcontractor) to show up and explain to the Spanish-speaking workers exactly what I wanted. Once the managers arrived, the work began smoothly. The HGE PM remained on site for at most two hours then left and was not seen again until he came back to get paid two days later. There was no supervision of the subcontractor by any HGE person. The job took two days to complete, and fortunately I had the time and expertise to oversee the work. When the workers were just finishing the last step, I walked around the roof with the subcontractor boss. It all looked very well-done except that the vent boots were the wrong size for the copper vent pipes that I have. I pointed out to the subcontractor that there was a ¼-inch gap between the boot and the pipe, making it not waterproof. The kind of boots that they installed are very good silicone ones, but HGE had sent them the wrong boots, and the subcontractor didn't catch it until I pointed it out to them. Had I not been familiar with basic construction, the subcontractor (and HGE) would have left me with a leaking roof. The boot problem led to a seven-day back and forth as to what to do about the issue. I will not bore you with the details but suffice it to say it was very stressful for me and my wife. The HGE PM was totally clueless about the proper way to install the boots over copper pipes. I had to point him to the manufacturer's website that contained a detailed YT video on how to do the job. Rather than doing it according to the manufacturer's recommendation, the HGE PM and the subcontractors did their way. I gave up and let it pass. I'm guessing, but I think that of the money I paid to HGE, only about 15-20% went to the subcontractor, 20-30% for the supplies, and 50-60% went to HGE. The deceitful aspect is that HGE claims that these subcontractors are "their crews," which they are not. Eventually the work was done correctly. I hope that no one else has to rely on the technical incompetence of HGE to install their roof. You will not know ahead of time which roofing company will actually install your roof. Find a local roofing company; not a franchise like HGE. NOTE THE REPLY FROM HGE. They claim they have never heard of me or contract # 276105

For the first time I realize I had been hearing a fair amount of outside noise (which I'd apparently gotten used to), because these windows/doors are soundproof; now I don't hear anything at all from outside! And even better, the windows are easy to open, and my sliding glass doors actually slide well in the track, and are not shaking and drafty when it's windy outside -- major improvements from my old, builder-grade, 20+ year-old windows/sliding door. Further, the service crew was excellent -- careful, kind, professional, efficient, and they cleaned up everything afterwards. Roger, the foreman, has been doing this work for almost 30 years, and Jose, who single-handedly carried in/out the windows/doors, has been doing this work for 10+ years. I didn't get the name of the quiet third service person who was mostly outside and on the ladders, also very efficient. fyi, they did mention that working on the 4th floor of our condos from ladders was a bit more challenging as the original builder-grade windows had been made to fit by being packed/taped in place from the outside, which necessitated them having to actually break some of the glass to be able to pull the old windows out. But they did it - and did it well. Finally, Shaun, the project manager who gave me my estimate and oversaw the project from estimate, HOA approval process, to completion, was great. Highly recommended.
