For the long, 4th of July weekend, we took a short vacation to the Berkshires. But, we found ourselves missing the holiday BBQ fare! So, checking out reviews, this seemed to be the place! It is a small bar & grill type establishment - simple but clean and only open limited hours on weekends. You order at the bar & then find a seat. They bring your order when it's ready. The ladies behind the bar were helpful & friendly. Service was super quick - we had our food in no time. To get an taste of almost everything, we ordered a Judge's Platter & were told it would be plenty for two to share. Not only was it plenty, but half the platter went home with us! The meats were fantastic! Tender, meaty ribs, Perfectly smoked brisket, an entire half chicken, a slab of tasty smoke turkey, a pile of pulled pork & some very tasty, cheesy sausage. Wow! Would easily feed a small family! For sides, we added beans, collards & threw in an additional mac & cheese. While I wasn't a fan of the beans or mac, the collard greens ( something tough to find in this neck of the world ) were fabulous!!! Thank you for filling our BBQ craving! We'll be back! read more

Laura and Old man Jeff are the real deal when it comes to BBQ! I couldn't choose and asked Laura to help me pick some of the highlights. Chicken wings, sausage, brisket and of course burnt ends. All of which were incredible. The sauces and pickles are all house made and being from Oklahoma this was a surprise to find on the east coast. Im not a big cornbread fan but Laura sold me on trying it and I'm so glad she did. It's unlike any cornbread I have had. The BBQ was top tier stuff and I have been to many of the most well known spots in the mid west. All that said, Laura and her friendly, inviting attitude make this a place I wish I lived closer to. I had to do some work and sat in the corner on my computer for a while so I got to speak with her several times. I didn't want to bug the Chef, her husband Jeff, so I'll take this time to say thanks for hooking me up with the best BBQ i have had in months! It was a little taste of home while away from home. First off, we were visiting here from out of town, and there are not many good options for food in this area. This barbecue place was the only place we could find it it's decent food. Being from Georgia BBQ is part of my DNA and I've eaten from New Mexico to the Carolinas, right up to Vermont. The meats are solid! You can't go wrong. We tried ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and wings. We loved the ribs and wings, I wish they offered a bucket of bones. Like half a rack of ribs and 8-10 wings. Just a bucket of bones The sides are good but not my personal favorite. I like potato salad with dill pickle and mustard. Everyone likes their potato salad different. The Mac was cold by the time we got home to eat it so it might be better hot. The sweet tea is solid but I don't think they know the baking soda trick we southerners use. I'd love to see some "seasonal additions". Like strawberry shortcake or watermelon in the summer as desserts. Fresh corn on the cob, smoked and could be turned into elote or esquites. Winter could see some smoked squash. Maybe partner with a bakery for some apple pie or tarts, sweet potato pie for winter desserts. Edit to add could you imagine a regular or sweet potato smoked and topped with brisket or pulled pork?? Also sell the tea by the gallon or in the summer offer half tea half lemonade. That's just my 2 cents. Overall good food. The staff were super sweet, like southern sweet. We decided to stop by on a whim while running errands in Pittsfield. The Kansas City burnt ends were perfect, the brisket was tender, the cornbread was fresh, heck even the Texas toast was good. You could tell the owners had a real love for the art of barbecue. Bonus points for all the funky and funny art decor. We were passing through and saw that this place had high reviews so we picked up food for dinner. It truly surprised me how good all the food was. Tenderrrr ribs, fall off the bone type. Super. Moist cornbread and the perfect creaminess and saltiness to their mac n cheese. The garlic parm wings were crispy and flavored to their perfection--haven't had these type of wings with high marks in a while. Best bbq on the planet! Really. Old Man Jeff makes everything from scratch including the pickles and mustard. No joke. Every side is the best I've tasted from the mac-n-cheese, baked beans with peaches (a bit like eating dessert), collard greens (recipe made over two days with fresh greens) and mouth-watering green beans (when available). Wings are juicy, crispy, lightly breaded, and with many tasty sauces to choose from. My wife's fav is the raspberry chipotle. Okay, we're getting to the main event...the meats! The ribs have tons of meat, are the perfect tenderness and pack a flavor that can't be beat. My son says the brisket mac-cheese kills with plenty of brisket. He actually took home leftovers. My absolute favorite is the yardbird (half chicken) with Jeff's own rub. He's very serious about getting the blend perfect. I get this nearly every time I go and dipping the bird in the mustard is it! I also really enjoy the sliced turkey breast. Last I'll mention is the corn bread. That's all I'll say about. Just get it! And grab a sweet tea while you're at it. I could go on but then I'd just go through the entire menu. Bottom line is there's no wrong choices. Old Man Jeff and Laura are great hosts who care about your enjoyment as much as the quality of the food. The best bbq and right in my neighborhood. From the exterior, the building doesn't grab your attention, but it's the bbq inside that counts! A good selection of pork ribs, brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork & chicken, and a variety of smoked wings with sauces, including the house specialty of honeymaple glaze (try it!). Reasonably priced and not overly smothered in sauce (they offer sauce on the side). The mac & cheese was very good and they also have poutine on the menu. The food is awesome! We spoke for a bit of time with the owner's wife and she was extremely nice. Between the three of us, we tried the brisket, the pulled pork, the pole, chicken, smoked wings, burnt ends, brisket, eggrolls, & French fries. All were very yummy!!!! They are fairly new only been open 10 months according to the owners wife and WE think they're rocking it!!! Staff was nice. The thickest ribs we ever got. We ordered the Pit Master for $100 and waited over an hour for our food (staff was apologetic). Part of our order was missing (chicken wings) and someone else's order was mixed in with ours. The sides were really small 1/2 pint. Mac n cheese could use some improvement. It was dry. Fantastic food and experience! Went for BBQ with my husband, 2 children, 5 and 1.5 y.o, and 2 friends we hadn't seen in a while. We were greeted by a friendly server who was attentive and all around great. The BBQ was very tasty - especially the honey chicken wings that both my kids were fighting over and devoured. At the end, the owner came by to check on us and even gave my little ones some treats. We would definitely go back next time we're in town! Highly recommend. read more

This place is well deserving of being a locally rated 5* but visitors to the area need to try this place! Ol reliable Yelp guided me directly to Old Jeff's when I was in the Berkshires (by Lee/Lenox area headed back to our resort in Hancock, MA). Pittsfield was on the way so it was perfect location too. Our call in order was so positive too! Guy was great guiding us to favorites and was so patient and funny. We were greeted by Old Man Jeff's wife and she was above and beyond friendly. Enjoy the free sweet tea while you wait for your order. Or full service bar is avail. The bbq ribs were amazing! Pulled pork was seasoned so well. Generous portions! My only constructive criticism is Old Jeff's needs better outdoor signage so he gets drive by's too. We went twice while in the area. We live in NJ. I wish I lived closer, I'd be back often! Our 2nd visit turned out to be as great as the first one! We ordered a special brisket stuffed bake potato and a turkey platter. "Mrs Old Man Jeff" even selected and served great pairing sauces! The food is good here. The ribs are seasoned very well and the meat is juicy and tender. It's one of the best I've tried. The brisket is fatty, juicy and tender. It's not over seasoned so I could taste the flavor of the meat (I didn't ask for bbq sauce additionally). Also one of the best I've tried. Honey maple wings are good. A bit sweet and a bit crispy outside. Juicy as well. Pulled pork is not bad. Texas toast and corn bread are both good. Very flavorful and not too dry. The price is very reasonable compared to other restaurants. The portion is big and I can only finish a bit more than half of it. I will definitely come back here for their ribs and briskets. Not sure whether it's Father's Day, they are super busy. It took them about one hour to deliver the food after I ordered. But the staff are nice. The best BBQ in Berkshire county. The pulled pork is so good. It's always tender and has such a good smoke flavor that's not overpowering at all. The chicken is really good too, I usually get the pulled pork and half a yard bird dinner plate. The baked beans are the best baked beans I've ever had. There's peaches in them that give them a touch of sweetness. I also love the cornbread. It's definitely a place worth trying if you haven't been yet. This place is a hidden gem! We ordered burnt ends with a red potato salad and baked beans sides. For the table, we ordered a sampler of the pulled pork and mcrib stuffed egg rolls, the smoked garlic parmesan chicken wings, and a jalapeno cheddar sausage. The accompanying sauces are all done in-house, and were delicious. The first bite of the burnt ends was tender, just melted in my mouth. It's also great that the place is child-friendly. My wife was wanting bbq. This place was just down the road. It's run by a husband and wife team. He cooks, she runs the rest of the place. You walk in and it smells wonderful in there. Everything is hickory smoked and absolutely delicious. Lots of really great things on the menu to choose from and everything is homemade. Sometimes I find it difficult to find a good pulled pork sandwich this far north after living in the Deep South for many years, but this place handles barbecue like real professionals. I ordered the OMG brisket sandwich and it was stacked high with succulent unadulterated brisket, no sauce, the way I like it. My hubby had the PigPen sandwich and he had to eat part of it with a fork because it was overloaded with pulled pork, rib meat, sausage, and condiments.
