Nice little trendy place. My wife had a few martinis and a cheeseburger with fries. I had a few beers and a cheeseburger with onion rings. We went on a Saturday evening around 6:30-7 and it was busy but got lucky and there was a table available when we walked in the door. Service was pretty good considering how busy it was. Walked down tonight because of the nice weather. Third day open. The burger in the picture looked good so I had to dance with this place. Glad I did. The soft spoken waitress took good care of us. Then she was sweet enough to tell me to drive safely. I don't use cars on weekends but after Tiger Woods and his little incident, I guess we're all lookin' out for one another. We'll be back. Went with my wife for a Friday happy hour (3-5pm) and enjoyed a few $3 cheeseburgers. They were fantastic. We also had a few of the $6 martinis. We knew that we would probably spend a bit more money than we normally would if we went out, but we had a great time, and found the happy hour prices to be a pretty good value. I deducted one star because every single seat in the place was taken, and they still only had one waitress working the floor, and one bartender. Me and my friend went to get drinks and a bite to eat here. Drinks were awesome and strong. Service was slow but there was one server for the whole place. I was hungry so I ordered a grilled cheese with a fried egg on it. Once we received it and after I ate a bite I realized there was bacon on it. This place has the absolute best fried chicken sandwiches you will ever eat. I get upset each time I go in and order the chicken because the burgers are great too. Then I bite into the chicken. This is a much needed neighborhood fixture in Grosse Pointe, not stuffy and delicious food. Bobbie is incredibly knowledgable on vegan health trends and the whole staff is incredibly nice. The one thing I wish they'd do is embrace their veggie burger and the varients therefrom. My god, their Portabella Burger on special for the month of August 19' is absolutely to die for. The fried chicken sandwich is a real piece of chicken and not a patty, and the burgers are juicy and filled with flavor. The most fun was the tachos -- tater tot nachos! I would give it a full five stars but the inside is always a little messy and service can be a tad slow... but that's because they usually have a full house and are busy managing both the inside and outside areas with the three people on staff. Is it possible to give more than 5 stars? Wow. This place was quite the awesome find while traveling in Michigan this week. An upscale Martini bar meets the deliciousness of a local, established pub. So good! I stumbled upon this quant bar after spending the day with some rather demanding clients... hence my need to find a good 'watering hole'. I entered the bar which is perfectly cornered in downtown Grosse Pointe and was immediately met by a bubbly blonde who quickly realized my need for a cocktail. She made a couple suggestions after asking about my preferences and boy was I not disappointed by the decision of the Black & Barrel. The mixture of Bourbon and Blackberries was noted and made for a sweet but dry finish. I may have had more than one. After raving for the umpteenth time, my server finally informed me that all cocktails on the menu were curated by the owner who happened to be in house. I asked to speak with him as I wanted to convey my delight with his mixology! Hisam, the owner at Old Pony greeted me at my table and was much obliged to give me a run down of other cocktails to try on my next trip in town. You bet your booty, I'll be back! I could safely say that when it comes to bar food, this place takes it to another level. The garlic aioli wings are to die for, the hot fries are delicious, the burger is excellent from what I heard. I personally got the hot Nashville fried chicken sandwich(which is not on the menu) and it was orgasmic. Make sure to get an extra side of the Pony sauce(trust me). When I die, I want to be bathed in pony sauce prior to being descended into my permanent resting space. I just woke up this morning and I wish I could have a glass of pony sauce to start my day. There's always a great drink special (my husband is all about the $2 pint night, whereas I could drink Pineapple Whip martinis all night long). Loooooove Pineapple Whip, made with their infused pineapple vodka. Delish. Also the Frida martini, which is just like a spicy margarita. Yummmm. They have some nice craft beers on tap too. Ambiance isn't anything too special, but we typically sit at the bar anyhow. Every time we've come, it's been busy. Quick happy hour with mom here to try out the new place. Drink specials are best in town ($3 wells and $6 'speciality' martinis. Burgers are also only $3, and are pretty tasty, tender and moist even if served Medium. As expected, no sides, but their appetizers look good. I had a martini with tequila that tasted slightly too sour, but some of the other drink options looked nice. We sat outside on the patio, would definitely recommend doing so. Only downside was service: while attentive, our server forgot our order after taking it, and the food served didn't match with what we told her. We also noticed she gave the wrong check to the table next to us. Both issues were quickly resolved, so I'll chalk it up to her being new. Anyhow, would recommend, especially if you like to sit outside or are looking for a cheap bite and drink, but don't expect perfect service. read more
