It was executed like somebody who had no training on the cut. It had been fried so long there was zero tenderness and no fat remaining. The chew and like the driest beef jerky. The sauce wasn't bad but it was absolute shit on a plate. Even the pickled onions were done wrong. Main Dish 2 of 5 The meal didn't get better with the lamb shank which was absolutely drenched in raw garlic. While the meat fell off the bone, it was poorly executed in flavor unless less you planned to fight off a vampire later that evening . I wish I could say how the demiglasse tasted over the shank but all I could taste was garlic. Pulled three large spoonfuls out. Smash burger had zero flavor. Was supposed to have thousand island dressing and cooked onion which were non existent. Fries were not fresh cut since the day they were frozen, but said they were on the menu, were well seasoned. I've had the burger here before and it was great so they definitely changed it. Service - 2 of 5. never even noticed we barely touched our apps or dinner, said no to a box and just took it away(well it wasn't McDonald's so I ate the burger). Its hard to get better at something when your server doesn't take pride in the restaurant. May as well been TGIF Fridays. $150 later. Went I went there with some friends recently, our menus were mismatched (some seemed more recent than others with different menu items listed). The tacos were really poorly filled. It was a tortilla with small bites of meat and the other condiments didn't even cover the tortilla. Even throwing some shredded lettuce on top would have made it look more appetizing. Some chairs / bar stools were wobbly. I hope this place isn't going downhill because service was very friendly and the menu is good with plenty of choices to make even bigger groups happy. Happened in here on an afternoon when Guardians were in a playoff game against Yankees. Men lined up along the bar; ladies at tables. Probably a funny coincidence. Lovely interior. Would be interested to hang out some evening in the back room where it appears there are various bar games. Event was using the space. Server was super friendly, attentive and smiley! So she makes up for my brisket pirogies. Don't get me wrong, they tasted just fine... if I ordered potato pirogies. The bits of brisket were minuscule. It's Cleveland Pierogi week. There is an entire mob following around this event. It was also Fat Tuesday yesterday. A huge day of eating, drinking, and gluttony. You would THINK that since there is an entire "pierogi passport" and lots of pomp and circumstance around this week, that venues who advertised to be part of it would welcome guests with open arms, right? Well, not exactly......we tried TWO other places before landing here and this was the FIRST one that welcomed us. (Great Lakes Brewery was honestly CLOSED on Fat Tuesday, no less.... and Rood was not accepting walk-ins, even at 5 PM.....geez.....) Sooo, we got a couple pints and two orders of pierogis. One loaded potato and one short rib. Three in each order. Both were delicious. Both scratched an itch. We will be back here again. The service at River Tap and Social continues to be abysmal! This is not the first time we have had this experience. We had to find the hostess to be seated. (There were literally less than 15 people/customers in the entire place!! While we waited for a server to receive any service (no less than 20min), we tried to order beer buckets at the bar. The bartender was beyond rude! She told me that if we were seated a table , we have a server and she would take our order. She would not serve us. We had no server, miss Bartender, and just wanted to have a few beers while we waited! Having met one of the owners before who was incredibly welcoming, I can't believe he would hire such inattentive and flat out rude people representing his bar. They were great at accommodating our family of 10 out on the patio! We got there right when they opened for Sunday brunch and it was great. The waiter was super patient and was able to handle all our drink and food orders with no issues. The food was really good no big portions! Tried this place out for the first time this weekend. First off, it's huge inside with a spacious patio. We went on a Saturday night (2 ppl) and did not have to wait for a patio spot which was awesome. The food was also tasty! We started by trying the traditional wings with spicy bbq. The wings were cooked perfectly and the sauce had just the right amount of spice. Next, I had the French dip sandwich and my husband had the sea bass. I can no longer dine at this establishment. I ordered a salad with no bacon. The menu stated it would have apples on it. When I received my salad, it had dried cranberries instead of apples. Fine, no big deal. But they probably should have said something. I looked at my salad and there were about eight small bacon bits. So they started to put them on my salad, and what, tried picking them out and hope I wouldn't notice? Gross. And to top it off, there was this large, black, wet, juicy, hairy thing in my salad. I looked like some kind of animal poop or something. My husband said it looked like a giant lint ball. The busboy came over to take my plate and admitted it looked disgusting. Great place with great atmosphere! The food was excellent with good size portions! What I really liked is that they take reservations for parties of 8 or more and call ahead seating if you have less! We absolutely loved our experience at Old River Tap. We started with the Bavarian Pretzel, which was huge and more than enough to share. I can't decide if I liked the beer cheese or mustard better- both were outstanding. As much as I loved this, our meals were so filling we didnt need an app at all! husband got a beer and a cocktail called Bish Please. It had smoky mezcal, a fruity red Bull, dark cherries, and a honey simple syrup. He loved it. what a creative drink, with a classic taste. They have a ton on tap. I'm a sucker for anything aioli, so I ordered the Napa Chicken sandwich. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and huge. It didn't necessarily need the mixed greens, but generous bacon, avocado, tomato, and a delicious her aioli made this one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. I got a huge helping of fries, for which I asked for malt vinegar aioli. My life is changed. Husband loved his 8 oz brisket. He said it needed BBQ sauce, but I highly disagree! this brisket was perfectly cooked and the flavor could stand alone. but if you need sauce, it's served with a fab horsey creme that I loved. he didnt touch the collard greens, but loved the mac and cheese. We came to old river as a last minute brunch option. We were a bit hesitant to eat at a place known for its pulled pork and hot chicken for brunch but took a chance. What a great choice we made. We were the first ones there and we're greeted with a warm hello and a smile from the manager. We sat at the bar and ordered some local beers while deciding what to have for brunch. I was between the breakfast burrito, bacon egg and cheese sandwich or pulled pork hash. After the friendly manager recccomend the pulled pork hash I was sold. My girlfriend went with the crispy chicken sandwich. The pulled pork hash arrived as a healthy portion with two sunny side up eggs atop diced potatoes and pulled pork. It was savory and salty. However, I prefer the spicier side of life and added hot sauce which made it as the kids say, absolutely slap. Her crispy chicken arrived in a simple bbq style tray with a pickle and side. After one bite she insisted I try it. The sandwich was in my hand before she fished her sentence based on how good it looked alone. I was met with a crispy decedent crunch with mild spice which was perfect for her who doesn't care for overly spicy things. Pretty good beer selection and great service makes up for the mediocre food. The food , don't get me wrong, isn't bad, it's just not anything to write home about. We started with the pretzel with the beer cheese which was meh and the beer cheese was underwhelming too. The fires were pretty good and not too greasy which is actually quite nice. Probably one of the better fires we've had in a while. The presence of plenty of vegetarian option is both refreshing and overdue in Cleveland ! We followed up with the quesadilla which was honestly not all that. It missed something, the plain cheese one was also just that, nothing spectacular. I guess I wanted more since this was probably the first I was out in a while. The pulled pork sandwich was a little too doused in barbecue sauce (according to my friend who ate it) however the burned tips or whatever it was was pretty good. The zoodles, my friend complained wasn't anything to write home about however he finished it in about five minutes so I'm thinking it was pretty good. In fact it was gone in a blink he literally inhaled it ! I would say it was definitely a hit! The service was fabulous all the way thru and thru and just for that I would have given them five stars. Great atmosphere, great spot, involved owner. Lots of potential in an town that will go out to eat. Unfortunately the food needs some work. Gave it 3 tries. Below is last visit: Shashito peppers would have been great but were not executed well. Basically warmed and not charred like the chef had ever cooked them before . Pork belly wasn't horrible but chef cut corners only crisping one side of belly leaving the other mushy . Vinegar bbq sauce was delightful, pickled veg wasn't pickled . Caesar salad greens were wilted and not fresh. Dressing needs to be tweaked. Too much garlic Old river burger made up for it. Done right and meat blend was great. Fries were not my fave. Soggy and have been better previous visits. I just don't understand how the chef isn't checking every dish before it leaves the kitchen and if he is...does he just not know what he's doing? It almost felt like he was in a rush to just get the food out without any concern on quality. Don't think chef is a lost cause but needs some guidance . A couple small changes and it could get back on track. Ps...those burnt ends aren't burnt ends. I know this town won't know any better, but I'm from Kansas and can tell. We recently hosted a luncheon after our mother's funeral at River Social. Renee and the staff, Madison and another bartender (I don't remember his name) were so accommodating, helpful and friendly. We were able to play a slideshow on their screens and play moms playlist on the sound system. The food - beef tenderloin, shrimp cocktail, crab cakes and pork roast was very good and plentiful. We had a very short timeframe for planning and Renee called us back on her day off to help us plan the event. Everyone felt welcomed to celebrate our mother. Things went well, I also spent $700 on food. The place was packed and the bar made a lot of money. I have contacted the manager and each of the three owners regarding my deposit. We were there for a 50th birthday party and it was the first time we had been- the "party" space was blocked off in the back with its own bar, corn hole and picnic tables. It also had access to the back patio which was nice too! Loved the space! The food was decent. New summer menu needs work. I frequent this place every other week with my trivia team and patronize them other times of the year. Tonight was definitely an off night. I ordered the watermelon salad, which was $14 and it looks to be about $13.50 profit. You get a slice of watermelon (traditionally the watermelon comes cubed) and a handful of salad, definitely over priced. My date's medium burger was beyond charred. Old River is usually pretty decent, but charging $14 for 6 oz dish that is 85% water is going too far. read more

The best thing I can say is the place is it's clean and has plenty of space. This review is not about the food, which I'll presume is adequate or better. I stopped in to watch the NFL playoffs on a Sunday afternoon. I was unimpressed... at first. While they have nearly 30 beers on tap, unless you're an IPA zealot or you want something fruity or sour, you'll be left disappointed. Their "lager" was like a crappy Budweiser. I guess the worst part of the experience was no sound on the game. Instead they played 60s and 70s light rock. I guess it's my own fault thinking I could go to a bar in Rocky River on an NFL weekend and expect some sports. Ok I take it back. Buffalo guy came out and told me sound is on in back bar. Tripped on this place by accident when our original destination was closed. What a happy accident! I felt they did a good job with Covid distancing. The staff on each visit have been helpful and friendly. The menu is refreshing. Lots of fun options. So far, we've enjoyed the pork belly bites, the portabella mushrooms, some burgers, and the brisket sandwich. All of the food has been delightful, and the portions were plentiful without being too much. The beer list is nice, but leans on the IPA side. I'd love to see some more stouts and porters. Sadly we were really disappointed in the two types of brisket sandwiches we got - super dry buns and super dry brisket. The mac and cheese was overwhelmingly pepper-y. We found this cool tap house on yelp and found out after we got there that it was brand new and has just been open for a few weeks. Has great selection of on tap local brews and some good finger food. We were the only ones there during a odd hour and COVID but the food and service was overall good.
