It's a pretty good venue for a concert -- the wait staff was on top of things and there was plenty of parking for the show I was at. The most important parts of a concert venue to me is sound and the view. Sound was great for the opener and main performance. The view can be obstructed depending where you are. Shows are general admission -- there is some seating but more standing room. We were able to grab a table & seats though and even though we were behind people in standing room only, the elevation of the floor where we were made it easy to enjoy the show while seated. I like the availability of a patio during the show though honestly it seemed pretty well claimed by smokers LOL. read more

Went to the old rock house for a 2000s themed party and this was the perfect venue for a small-medium concert or party. They have an ample amount of parking and a nice outdoor space so you can escape the room if it gets too hot. They had a cooler or water ready to go which was smart since people were dancing and getting hot. The bar staff were great and super easy to talk to! Always a huge variety of bands. Food is not always available but you can have food delivered. Extra restrooms in the basement. Fun concert posters and art. Nice big parking lot on the side. Very convenient! Side Patio for getting fresh air and smokers. Tables on the side on the floor so get there when doors open to grab them. On the bar level, the tables don't all have a clear view of the stage. The upstairs balcony is never opened when I go. Would love to see that. Good price on drinks. Fun spot to catch a show! Plenty of parking between the adjacent lots and parking across the street. Definitely recommend getting a spot staked out early for a sold out show. There are some tables on the first floor but more on the second, only a handful have a view of the stage though. I have been to Old Rock House a few times for EDM shows. It's very casual and fun. There are two floors which I love - you can be in the pit downstairs or hang upstairs for a more chill vibe and there is even some seating. There is also an outdoor area where you can get some air. They keep the temperature inside very balanced, though it gets hotter as the night goes on like most places. A bar on each floor which keeps the wait for a drink very short. They are really strict about the one drink per person rule (like if you're getting a drink for a friend, the friend has to be physically there too). I don't mind the rule but I saw others get a little grouchy about it. There is a $10 minimum. They have a great selection of liquor though nothing super fancy. Drink prices are normal and affordable for a music venue. The bartenders are super fun, especially the one named "Smash." I often see staff engaging with patrons and even dancing to the music, making the vibe really fun and welcoming. The crowds there, the times I have been there, are usually fun and polite albeit drunk. I have been offered drugs there a couple of times but no one was ever aggressive about it. There is staff everywhere so it feels safe. The crowd tends to be MESSY though - the STICKIEST floors! The bathrooms are a downside because there are only 2 stalls and the restroom is small overall. It's usually well stocked, though. The sound is pretty good for such a casual venue, too. I don't ever feel like it's muffled or too loud, the volume is balanced and it sounds good from both the bottom and the top floor. Lighting wise, they need more lasers! Parking can be a challenge at times (depending on when you get there) but there is a pretty big lot and a small area of street parking. read more

Never been here before but won a couple of tickets fromcRiver Front Times to see Laith Al-Saaid from "The Voice". I have never heard him or watched the show but on a Sunday night with no work on MLK I was game! And of course it was an opportunity to try the food! I am definitely not a bar scene girl and this was definitely that. But I found a cozy spot on a loveseat and saw they had closed circuit tv so the fact I wasn't sitting in proximity to the band was cool since I could see it on the screen close to me. I ordered a rum punch for $5 and the bbq brisket flatbread. The flatbread has brisket, bbq sauce, caramelized onions, mozzarella, and Parmesan and it was pretty good. Brisket was tender and flavorful. I was expecting something more for $10, it seem relatively small for the price but I get it, the venue has to make money on the food. They did bring me some complementary sweet bites with my food which was perfect for a sugarhead like me, so that was much appreciated. Overall it was a good night out and better than staying home. Katie who helped me was very nice and more attentive to me when I wanted to place an order than the others. The bartender and the other waitresses initially seemed to be too busy to be bothered when I walked in. Even after I sat at the bar for awhile, the bartender to the order of 2 men before me who came up to the bar after me. After the bar cleared out then she asked if I wanted anything. I chose not to place an order with her and waited until I saw someone else at the bar and approached her. That was Katie who immediately greeted me with a warm smile and asked what she could get me. I may be back depending on who is playing. The drink price was excellent for a special so I would highly suggest ordering a drink on special so you can drink more on a budget. just had our daughter and son-in-law's wedding at the Old Rock House and cannot say enough great things about this hidden gem of a venue. Ashley and her crew were amazing from start to finish. She really listened and brought my daughter's dream wedding to life. everything from the decor to the food (prepared on site) was wonderful and everyone had THE BEST time, especially the bride and groom. This place has 2 fully stocked bars with professional bartenders, a sound booth and so many extras that just made for a day that we will never forget! it was also very reasonably priced considering we had a fairly large reception of about 230 people. I'm the Duke so I guess I should write a review. (I only come here for bands I know) I like the long narrow "shotgun" style bars/venue like this for acoustics that allow sound waves to fully develop and not much echo. The stage is in the back will a descent sized dance floor in front of it for most rock bands. Tables and couch type seating is the middle section. The font has the bar. There is a wide sidewalk cafe or patio seating that the full length of the bar when you or the band takes a break. They offer a V.I.P. balcony area that I have never been cool enough (or willing to pay for) to see. Another event space in the basement is advertised, but I haven't explored. Bartenders have always been pros by constantly waiting on people. I have waited, but because of crowd & not effort. The bar is well stocked on good local beer. A cool touch for a venue is one TV shows a live feed of the show. I have seen food here, but never ate. Tonight I saw Thrax. I admit I know one of the players, but this is about the venue. My husband and I had our reception at the Old Rock House in October and I have never had such a great experience!! Ashley kept contact with me from the time we booked the venue right until the day before. She and her team accommodated my every want and need (no matter how bizarre)! Ashley made me feel like an actual bride. She assured me there is no stupid questions or requests and also made me feel at ease. I am not a decorator, but she is! I wasn't sure my vision would come to life for our reception, but when I walked in the venue, tears came to my eyes! The whole night Ashley made sure we were doing ok and if there was a problem she was on it right away. I could not thank her or her team enough. The food was also SOOO delicious. They make it in house and I have never had such good food at a wedding. We had compliments all night!! If you are looking for a venue and don't know where to begin with planning/decorating, I suggest you choose Old Rock House. I was able to delegate so many things to Ashley the week of the wedding and was not disappointed. This venue is affordable and everyone works so hard to truly make you feel like it is YOUR day!!!!!!! I've been to ORH twice. The first time I came was years ago for a Digable Planets concert. I hated it. There were a TON of local acts and the main performers didn't come on until about 11pm and I was hot, it was obnoxiously loud, and I was tired. So my sister and I left during the main act's third song. I vowed to never come back to Old Rock House again (as if this experience was the venue's fault). I broke my boycott Saturday night to see the incredible Tank and Bangas. The venue is a decent space with upstairs seating, a bar, and a large downstairs main floor. I have never been upstairs to see what the views are like up there or to see how much seating is up there so I can't judge that. The venue isn't bad, however the microphones weren't turned up as loudly as they should have been for the show, so the lead singer and background singer's voices were drowned out by the band the entire show! The performers asked to have the mics turned up several times during the show, and they were never really raised up. That was unfortunate. Outside of that, the sound quality in the space (of the band basically) were good, but still, it did take away from the entire experience. Another good point is that this venue has its own parking lots: one nicer one that's not so big and a large not-as-good gravel lot, but still FREE PARKING! I would come back here again, but I will admit that this is far from my favorite concert venue in STL. read more

Most of the shows I saw were from the Scion(yep, the automotive company) free concert series. I was able to see Redman , EPMD, Beanuts and Too Short, just to name a few. I really miss Scion!!! lol First thing is if you want to get a spot on the parking lots you better get there at least 30-45 mins before the show because those lots fill up fast. There isn't much street parking available near the Old Rock House, you either have to park at least a block or two over if you're lucky to find any street parking at all during concerts. The venue is really kool!!...It's like old school huge bar meets, a place to have a good wedding reception. Now if you plan on watching the concert from the 1st floor, get there early because the standing room area and table and chairs go pretty quick. The stage is not that high or big so the further back from the stage you are on the 1st floor equals to worst the view you will get . Also ,the sound is not as good on the 1st floor the further you get from the stage. The best view and seating is upstairs; you can look directly onto the stage from there. The sound is good not matter how far you get from the stage upstairs. I have been all the way in the back in the restrooms and heard the concerts descent enough from that location. read more

Lets see, starting from the outside, I have to say that one major bonus in my opinion is that there is actual parking lot parking available street side and a gravel parking lot behind it. So, I have never, not found a place to park that isn't a block away. They have a great patio for nice weather days and also for special events they put large tents up outside on the patio area. I have been to this place for various events. Great concerts held here (check website) and there is a decent sized dance floor. Depending on the event, they have amazing food prepared by Paulie and the fabulous staff. We held a celebration of life here for my sister. The moment we sat down and talked to Paulie about what we had in mind, I knew he understood what we wanted and he did not disappoint at all.Decorations,food,drink, music, video, all done very well and very professional. A tough day for our family was made so much easier, knowing it was all being handled for us. Our family has also held a wedding reception here!! Again, Paulie got the Brides vision and did not disappoint. The entire staff helps out in making these events great. We feel like we are now among friends when we go to ORH. However they do have monitors so you can see the stage from other areas. Despite being understaffed (seems to be a problem recently) the waitress was pretty good. I've been to the ORH a bunch of times for live music, and it's a great spot! Most recently I went for the Red Bull Thre3Style DJ event... that one was a doozy. I'm pretty sure I can still hear the bass in my ears a few days later. I've seen some really great acts here and absolutely love the layout! Plenty of room to stand around and see the stage, and also plenty of places to walk & check out if you sometimes have live music ADD like your Yelp CM. I have a few different places to hang out at Old Rock House! Let's start with the most important: 1) The bar. Unfortunately I spend so much time here because it sometimes takes forever to get a drink! They have bars upstairs and downstairs so see which one is less busy, but getting a drink at ORH can sometimes resemble an olympic sport. 2) The patio. What do you need while seeing a live, sold out show? FRESH AIR. 3) Right in front of the stage on the main floor. You're literally RIGHT THERE in front of the performers, and you can take it all in! 4) The balcony. A really great view, and I feel like I have more room to breathe up there. My only cons would really be the parking situation (mud all over my new black patent leather pumps = no bueno) and the bathrooms downstairs because they're kind of a hike and are always really hot. I like this place a lot, though, and can't wait to see another show soon! read more

Among the many premeire rock venues in St. Louis, Old Rock House is pretty average. It's great to have somewhere close to see quality shows. Most of the best acts end up playing in Midtown or the Loop, but occasionally something cool comes downtown to the Old Rock House. I love the room. The setup is one of my favorites in town. I prefer the narrow, long design over the wide, on top of everyone look of the Pageant. It brings to mind the glory days of Mississippi Nights. Also, the balcony is a nice touch, too. For me, it's the best part of ORH. Everything else can be hit or miss. The sound is nothing special. The house only has four fifteens up front, adequate but not great. The staff is pretty average for a music venue. The door guy was fairly nice, but the bartender was impatient and unpleasant. The beer prices are inflated. We had four beers for nineteen before tip, which doesn't seem bad at first glance. However, I was drinking Stag, a beer that should never be more than two dollars. Two Stags and two premium drafts make nineteen. I thought that I was drinking at the Pageant! I love the convenience and the room but not much else. Also, I'm not sure how much more money that I will spend at the bar. read more

This review is for the music venue portion only. I don't have much experience w/ food here. This is an AWESOME live music venue. I've lost count of the incredible shows that I have witnessed here. The space is just perfect enough to provide intimacy, but never too packed. Sound has always been top-notch. It's great that they open up the side doors so you can actually step outside on the patio and still enjoy the music. Fresh air + live music = GOOD. And then there's the balcony/top floor area. It is just beautiful. Lots of plush couches and stuff to sit on, and you can also catch an amazing view of the live music below. There's even another bar nestled way in the back, and they have flatscreen TVs broadcasting the action from the stage. What a great idea! However, the balcony is usually only open for the bigger shows. I saw some amazing acts here last year, mainly in the electronic music category, such as Eliot Lipp, Pnuma Trio, EOTO, Lotus, and Bassnectar. All were superb. Drinks seem to be a tad pricey. There are two parking lots, the main asphalt one right in front of the place (fills up quickly when there's a show) and a dirt lot behind the place (usually open). If you park on the street, make sure you don't leave any stuff lying around in your car, as the area is a bit sketchy and break-ins have occurred. Oh, another weird thing. If you open a tab they initially charge $50 on your card. The $50 is then refunded within the next couple days. I'm not sure why they do this, but just a heads up so you don't freak out when you look at your card statement. If a band you even remotely like is playing here, definitely go see them. The Old Rock House combines the essence of a nice traditional restaurant with that of a nightclub, creating a nice atmosphere that is fun and trendy but relaxing at the same time. Besides having a great atmosphere, the Old Rock House also has some good food as well. For diner I had their Rueben Kincaid. It was like a normal Rueben sandwich, but instead of corned beef, it had pastrami. The difference in the flavor of meat makes a great difference in the taste of my most favorite sandwich. Why haven't I been here before? I've walked by the building dozens of times before and after Cardinal games but never had an opportunity to attend a concert there until this weekend. What a great venue! There is a very cozy feel with a bar and standing room only on the lower level. The balcony was also fantastic. You can only see the stage from the seats in the front of the balcony but there are flat screen TVs and a large projector screen that provides a live feed as well. Towards the back of the upper level there are a number of cozy leather sofas and another bar that is just right for conversation. I didn't have the opportunity to dine there but they do have a menu with pizzas and sandwiches. They also have a lower level that can be reserved for private parties. Overall I really enjoyed the atmosphere and it allowed you to be as up close to the artist as you would like. read more

Nutshell: super intimate concert venue, plenty of tasty food, service was a bit lacking, but absolutely coming back! Love it! Rolled in on a Friday evening. When you walk in there is the bar, walk a bit further and there is the high top area, a bit further an open area with a smattering of tables and BAM the stage! Its my new favorite concert venue. They also have TVs set up all over that show the stage so you never miss anything. The bands were pretty awesome on this night. Best $10 I've spent in a good long while. Now I'm a food person, so this is the important bit. The menu is relatively small, but all looks good. I got the small order of BBQ nachos. I was not prepared for the sheer amount of food that came out! Pulled pork, beans, cheese, bbq sauce, tomatoes, jalapeños...piled high. Every chip had something on it. These are quality nachos and for $7, uhhh yes please! I knocked a star off for service. My waitress was nice enough, but I felt like she was trying to be done with me. I ordered a drink and she told me what to pay before seeing if I was going to order more. I finished my food and she just laid down the bill, again not seeing if I wanted anything else. I received no refills on my soda, which was a bit silly because you pay $3 for it. I'm going to chuck it up to a one time thing and hope its not the same the next go round. read more

She is reliable, available, creative, honest, helpful. She went out of her way to make our event fun, seamless, and creative! The staff the night of the event was friendly; many of our guests commented to us later that the staff was having fun working the event. The chef held a tasting for us, helped problem-solve around dietary restrictions, and was honest about what would/would not make for a successful meal. I could not recommend this place more highly! My 20 year old friend was holding my drink while a took a video and decided to take the smallest sip, security immediately runs over, grabs us both by the arm and kicked us out. I visited the Old Rock House to see Tank and the Bangas for my birthday reeeeally nice show. They had to tell the sound man to turn the mics up several times.. The first act I didn't know and could barely hear what he was saying. But the atmosphere was lit and very intimate with the crowd. I will definitely come again. The balcony area was really great also still being able to see the group no matter where you sat. Oh the smoked chicken wings were to diiie for, OMG supper good. The drink that I had was a little watered down must ask for a double shot. But other than that I would come again. Dope place. read more
