I have been a patron forever! I've never seen a bad show. I've become familiar with artists that I otherwise have never heard of. The atmosphere is intimate, ticket prices are always affordable and the food and drinks selections are imaginative and delicious! The service here is always friendly and fast. My only complaint is that street parking is at a premium-especially if there are other events being held nearby. The valet lot and nearby lots charge ridiculous prices (but I guess you pay for convenience) This is my top choice for quality jazz! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Jazz St. Louis. I was able to personally witness opening week for an old friend who's now the creative advisor for JSL. For starters we had balcony seats with the perfect view. I love all the acoustic paneling on the wall, pretty and functional. I ordered dinner and dessert because why not? I got the salmon which was cooked to perfection, a perfect medium. For dessert I had the house brownie and that was definitely a treat. As far as the music, I had no idea Keyon could sing in addition to playing his world famous trumpet! Absolutely incredible, 10/10, wow! I've been wanting to come here for the longest time as the St. Louis Jazz culture is so evident. I'm honestly a little surprised people don't talk about this place more because I think it was one of my favorite experiences in St. Louis, by far. I came to watch Keyon Harrold and his band who are all absolutely legends alongside Kenneth Whalum. Let me tell you the most amazing parts of the night: - For one student tickets are only $10 which is wild with a $2.50 processing fee. The show typically called for like $40+ per ticket so you save an incredible amount of money with a student ID. Also you can just call them online about it, you don't have to visit their box office in person. - We watched the 7:30 show, and I guess they wanted to encourage more people to stay for the second set so the theater offered free tickets from everyone from the first set to come tot he second set, so we gladly took them. I'm so glad that we did because even though the songs were the same, the middle improvisations part was incredible. - The venue is so intimate as there aren't a lot of seatings and you can really feel connected with the artists. - Keyon Harrold!!! Oh my gosh. His band absolutely killed it and blew everyone away. The way he was able to hold the room with his trumpet was mesmerizing and the guy who was playing the keys for him was amazing. I appreciate the improvisations so much as you could see each musicians shine and everyone else supporting them. It was so impressive they way they were able to sit so in the pocket of the music with the ever-changing rhythms. Honestly could not recommend seeing his show more, because even though the two sets started with the same songs, the middle bits were completely different which made everything so much more interesting. - Kenneth Whalum's "One More Kiss" is officially my new favorite song. Wow. The way he sang it, man was serenading us! And then they did some improvisations and no matter how wild it got, they always brought it back to the chorus of the song. Incredible! - I appreciate that Keyon Harrold asked everyone to stand up and dance at the end, it really felt like such a great community. - The vibes were amazing. Everyone there was so supportive, I absolutely loved it. Okay, clearly this is my new favorite St. Louis experience. Can't wait to come back again to listen to more new and amazing artists although I have to say that Keyon Harrold is a hard one to beat. read more

This is a gem of a venue. It's fairly intimate and has tables downstairs and a nice viewing balcony upstairs with counter-like seating. I doubt there's a bad seat in the house. I sat upstairs and the view and acoustics were great. Ticket prices seem very reasonable. I thoroughly enjoyed the jazz ensemble performance; all the musicians were great. It was a fun and entertaining evening! I went by myself (on a weekday evening) and felt very welcomed by both the staff and patrons. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass. I went with the server-recommended red and it went great with my tasty rigatoni pasta dish. Even though they were short-staffed (the manager had to step in as a server for the night), once I was seated the service was excellent. read more

Perfect place for all ages and levels of jazz enthusiasts to enjoy! I made the mistake of booking a ticket the week ahead of my show, I explained my situation to the woman at the box office and she switched my ticket over no problem. I was there on a Friday night and the atmosphere was beautiful, great seating choices for all party sizes and the second set was free for those with tickets to the first. I ended up seeing Matt Wilson's Bad Trouble, Mr. Wilson is an amazing crowd entertainer and definitely worth it. If you're ever in town don't overthink it. Swing by, listen to jazz and have a damn good time! I sure did. read more

I was invited by and friend and Uber to the location. When you walk in you have the little bistro to the right and the venue to the left. I went to the bistro and grabbed a drink before the performance started. The venue is small and personal so it didn't look like there was a bad seat in the house. This place is amazing, it is a great little spot to chill and be transported back in time. Regina Carter's performance was breathtaking. We arrived around 615p, the doors open at 6p for the 730p show. There is balcony seating on the second level which can be reached by stairs or elevator. The first floor has tables and booths surrounding the stage. They have a simple menu packed with flavor. On this night the special of the night was a lobster roll on a brioche bun with poblanos. I ordered the shrimp & grits and parmesan truffle fries. The beer and Bourbon list is pretty nice as well. There is a glass bottle of water for every 2 seats. All seating is white leather, so when the lights are turned down during the performance it doesnt seem so dark. If you attend the first show you have the option to stay for the second one. The staff will find you a seat. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will be returning soon. read more

If you are going to see a 7:30 PM jazz set here, they make it really convenient to have dinner before hand. It's also the only way you are going to eat here. They don't take walk-ins or others that aren't going to the show. That said, they do a pretty good job with the food. It's a small menu, but that's fine. It makes it easier to decide what to get. We started with deviled eggs. Not a bad choice. Fairly standard, and that you get what you expect. The wife and I both picked the same entrée, which was saucy Mediterranean rice. It's a vegetarian dish, and they told us that they now use jackfruit instead of tofu. That's probably an improvement. The jackfruit was very dense and meaty, and did a good job soaking up the flavor. And there was a lot of flavor in the tomato-based sauce with a good deal of spices, and not for heat. Surprisingly, they had about a half dozen choices for the desserts. What we had was pretty good, but even at about nine dollars each they were definitely too small to want to share, so you each have to get your own. The caramel corn choice, had a lot of chocolate dipped pretzels, mini marshmallows, and Spanish peanuts, to add variety. However I thought there could have been more actual caramel on the corn. My sweet potato gooey butter cake sounded odd, but it actually was really good. I'm not sure how they made it, but the sweet potato seemed to reduce what could have been an overly sweet dish. A table mate got bananas Foster which also looked pretty good. However it wasn't lit on fire as I had expected. read more

The music was great. The ambience is great, the service was excellent. The food is pretentious and definitely not worth the money spent on top of the money spent. We went here per default because of a cancellation at the FoX . We were out with nothing to do so my husband for 50$ a ticket bought us tickets to see this show. But aside from that I dont understand how one bland tasting meatball with tomato sauce figures to be 13$, or extra crostini bread for a small crap dip figures to be 4$. So go for the music but eat and drink elsewhere or youll be paying 345$ like our group for gumbo, roasted chicken, 1 meatball , crab dip with 6 drinks. ill save you the heartache read more

This was such a fun venue for something fun for date night. I saw on Instagram that they were offering free tickets for their summer series--how can you turn that down? You can also buy single tickets or packages for their regular season. We received an email that doors opened at 6 for their 730 show and encouraged attendees to secure seating. As we planned to dine there (service is offered throughout the show even if you're not there ahead of time), we did go ahead and arrive shortly after 6. We were glad we did because quite a number of people did the same thing. There was open family style seating with tables of 4. There is also a downstairs bar that you can sit at and a bar counter upstairs in the balcony for some other seating options. Along the back wall downstairs there is booth sitting. This is what we opted for though we ultimately wish we'd gone with a regular table because the booth was high enough that you kind of needed a foot ledge but the ledge by the booth wasn't the best ergonomically. The view was great but just not the most comfortable seat and would pick a table next time. The food was honestly much better than I expected. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer that had a tasty jalapeno cream sauce over it. For dinner we had the gumbo which was also good but the potato gnocchi was the real star for me. Where to I begin? Beautiful venue, decent food (but stick to drinks), excellent jazz music, and a wonderful date night, girl's night, or a large/small group of friends. It's not dark and more "modern" - maybe that's not the right word. But when you go to some other Jazz venues, it's usually a lot more mature and dark. I have never been during the day, but just learned that they have a Thursday AM morning Jazz series with free Tim Horton coffee/food and inexpensive tickets at around $10 a piece. There are also student discounts ($10) - but most of the tickets start at $40+. Best seats are on the 2nd floor. read more

For starters....I don't like the new decor. Gone is the sexy, cozy feel of the old place. Bright lights, cold and sterile. Weird furniture. Don't sit on the balcony as you won't be able to see the musicians unless you are quite tall. The food wasn't great. I ordered a roasted beet salad and the beets were raw. Then comes the risotto with roasted vegetables.....again the veggies were raw except for the carrots. The service was fine but not as good as it could be. The floor vibrates when it is walked on. This Venus is cool, I like the vibe and some of the chairs. The white ones hit too low in the back and after an entire drinks and set my back was hurting. They need a bartender and a better drink menu, stat. It took us over 25 mins to get drinks with our two other friends at a table by the stage. I think our waitress forgot us after I had to wave her over to order. No harm, no foul but I would have loved a whiskey before the band started their set. Nice interior and cool venue over all. The music here is usually terrific, the night we went was a "swing jazz" group and for me, 90 mins of music is just right, and the band played right thru without a break. The food here is terrible at best, so come for the music for sure. The wait staff here is also not so good, be sure to order drinks before the music starts or you may go thirsty. I found the wait staff the night we went to not seem to have their head in the game. After missing a couple of my earlier season ticket sets, I finally made my first visit to the NEW Jazz at the Bistro for Joshua Redman's Trio. I have been a regular at the Bistro since 1996 and this happened to be my 80th visit. We have been excited about this change, since attending a preview during the early planning stages in June 2013. It far exceeds what I imagined and ensures that the Bistro will remain a great place for the best jazz in the world for many years to come. Congratulations to all who worked on this awesome transition and who made it possible. People who live in St Louis, who like jazz and who have not yet found this venue, need to be sure to check it out. A couple of weeks ago we were privileged to attend a concert of the Keith Jarrett Trio at the Chicago Symphony. My early live performance experiences with jazz were all in similar concert halls and while they were great, nothing compares to hearing jazz in a place like the Bistro. It really is how jazz should be heard. There should never be an empty seat. read more

Awesome venue! Not a bad seat in the house. Whether you're here for a concert or just a nice Sunday Brunch (which most don't even know exist) you'll enjoy the experience. The Jazz Bistro is super chic; the ambiance is like none other in St. Louis. Although it has an upscale appearance and feel you can totally come as you are. If I'm going to keep all things honest though; which I must, the food is simply mediocre. The Sunday Brunch selection was pretty limited and not very tasty at all. There were heavy biscuits and gravy, pork bacon, sausage links, scrambled eggs, and some sort of meat-filled quiche (none of which I tried) there were also cheesy grits, fresh fruit, friend chicken and pancakes to order (which I did try and thought each were ok. However, for a $35 brunch I felt like the food selection was unfair. The server at our table was very nice; not the same could be said for the brunch table attendant. He was very dry and when I requested more berries he said tell my server. He gave no details when I asked what was in a certain dish and really zero personality. I wanted to grab my little vittles and hurry back to my cozy little nook on the dining side where I was safe and could enjoy some light live jazz music. The mimosa was delicious and not included in the $35 brunch cost (shameful). Overall it was nice and I'd go back if someone else is treating. read more

Yet another St Louis gem. We went to see Sara Gazarek. She was amazing. Sorry to say the food wasn't great. I had shrimp and grits. It was pretty good but pretty bland. My wife had the pork chop. It wasn't good. The chop was over cooked. The chimichurri was really bad. A friend suggested that we stick to appetizers which we will when we return this week. Very excited to see Melissa Aldana. This is a great music venue. The talent is first class. Hopefully our food experience was the exception, not the rule. read more

Jazz at the Bistro has a very laid back vibe that everyone will love. The performer of the night was Brian Owens. He gave a Neo-Soul, Hip and Jazzy flow performance that relaxed me from my head to my toes. Champagne in one hand and appetizers in the other I was definitely feeling this performer. He song his version of Micheal Jackson's "Billie Jean" that will knock your socks off and had everyone on their feet. As I slowly put my socks back on he starts to sing Christmas Carols and of course the audience song a long. needless to say Brian Owens brought the house down. This is one of the best kept secrets in The Lou. Can't afford the $50 ticket to see your favorite jazz artist in the beautifully decorated and intimate performance space??? Don't worry, you can sit in the adjacent bar, order a $3 soda, and watch and listen to the entire live show next door projected on the giant screen inside the bar. It's not all good news, the service sucks-I waited 20 minutes for someone to come and take my order, which never happened. This place books the best local and national touring jazz performers. I've never seen a bad show here. Add to the great jazz the great new renovation, and this place can't be beat for a night out in StL. Previously, the Bistro was only a listening room (but served dinner). With the expansion, there's the main listening room and a separate lounge. After getting your ticket for a table in the listening room, you can have dinner, drinks, or sit at the bar (where the stage used to be). The balcony is expanded with seats overlooking the stage and another bar. The stage has been moved to the side, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. In the new lounge, you can grab dinner or drinks and watch the show live on a 90" screen. There's no charge to go to the lounge, and you can socialize all you want. As the show takes place in the listening room, multiple cameras and mics pipe the sights and sounds into the lounge. The kitchen is now run by St. Louis Catering, that does the Boathouse. I had the zuc/pepper tempura, short rib, and chocolate tart. Would recommend any of these dishes. If you haven't been in a while, or haven't ever been, you should really give it a go some night, even if you just want to give jazz a try in the lounge.
