I had high hopes for this place after they took over when Badfish left unexpectedly. These days, they are constantly short handed, which means orders take forever and quality has definitely suffered. Some days are better than others, but it's hit and miss. They are in a great location -- but one with five or six coffee shops within a relatively short distance. I am so incredibly impressed by this place. The service is amazing, Griffin and Brooke are so friendly and easy to talk to! The coffee is great, I don't like when coffee is too acidic so I'm very particular but this coffee is awesome. The star of the show though...I'm almost scared to say because I don't know what their daily supply looks like and the thought of these not being available when I come in would kill me, is the bacon bfast burrito. I absolutely hate to leave bad reviews on local businesses but I had to throw out my entire iced mocha because of how bad it was, and this was not my first negative experience here. Iced mocha is my go-to drink when I'm not sure what to order because it's typically hard to mess up. This iced mocha was literally undrinkable, it was like they were trying to mix hot chocolate powder into cold milk. Took the first sip, got a little milk stopped by a chunk of powder (see pic). Took the straw out thinking that would help, but the next sip tasted like chunky, powdery milk. Tried stirring it up more with the straw, took another sip, more powder stuck in the straw. I ended up throwing the whole thing in the trash. My husband thought his iced vanilla latte was decent, but he's not picky at all so for him to not say it was "good" is pretty wild. The person who took our order was very nice, but we could hardly hear her/she could hardly hear us because the music was blasting. Not a huge deal, but it was pretty annoying having to repeat ourselves/asking her to repeat herself just to order two coffees. Such a bummer that this is what ended up here. I absolutely love old soul and have been going to the downtown locations for years. It's great to have one in fair Oaks now. They've done a great job with the indoor and outdoor seating. The ambience has that old soul feel. Plants, earth tones, great coffee shop vibe. I ordered a breve latte and it was delicious. You can submit your music taste, and have it added to their playlist. I will definitely be coming back. Only downside I saw was that the tables were a little dirty. Probably need a little extra attention since most people bus their own tables. read more

Absolutely a wonderful overall first time visit experience this afternoon at this Old Soul location in Fair Oaks Village! I enjoyed the scrumptious TBA sandwich (turkey, bacon avocado, Swiss, tomato, beer mustard on crispy, crusty ciabatta bread with fresh green salad ( balsamic dressing and feta cheese) and dirty chai latte- wow, espresso shots put it over the top!! Service was welcoming, efficient and courteous. Knowing the stellar reputation of Old Soul, we chose this spot and were not disappointed! The relaxing, simple, functional polished wood tables and black metal chair decor inside carries thru with similar outdoor seating which we chose while enjoying fresh air as we viewed the bustling movement toward businesses in Fair Oaks Village. Admittedly, I've had one visit and a single drink, but I'm not understanding the reviews of this place so far. It was bustling on the day after Christmas around 9:30 in the morning, the staff were friendly and banging out drinks and food at a good clip. The space is fairly small but inviting, clean, and had plenty of seating options. After a quick chat with the order taker, I selected a straight espresso, their Remedy blend, which promises "refined berry-like acidity with a creamy thick body and a nice toasted nut and bakers chocolate finish", and it was exactly that. Served in a nice smoked glass double walled espresso cup, it definitely needed a little cooling before drinking, but once it was at a manageable temperature, I found it to have a velvety texture, definitely creamy and thick, with the berry acidity really on display. I've had espresso at a dozen places in the greater Sacramento area over the last four days, and this ranked among the top. I had a brief chat with the barista after the drink, and gave her my kudos for a simple drink well made. I'm familiar with the midtown Sacramento area Old Soul, but this one is a nice addition for folk over on this side of the "big city". Give it a try! read more

We came here on a rainy Sunday. I loved my seasonal pie spice latte just as they served it. The mocha was also good. You order at the counter and get a number. They bring your food to your table. The coffee and food came out quick. The burrito had a nice cheesy inside. We got the carnivore with bacon. The potatoes were a little under done. The inside is modern farmhouse with large windows to watch the people and rain. read more

I appreciate Old Soul coffee in general, but this experience wasn't a good one. I still taste the rip off after being charged $9.52 (before tip) for a Pie Spice latte with oat milk. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it was grossly overpriced for what tasted like an average latte with some cinnamon & nutmeg sprinkled on top. I like the location and the staff was friendly enough, but if they are upcharging this fierce in Fair Oaks Village they may very well end up the way of Bad Fish. I have been a fan of Old Soul for years (all locations, especially 40 Acres and Weatherstone) and while I was a fan of the prior coffee shop Badfish, I am happy that I can get my Old Soul fix a lot closer to home. When we visited, it was bustling and most of the seats were already taken. It appears I'm not alone in being an Old Soul fan :) We got a couple biscuit sandwiches, a latte and a mocha. I really enjoyed my sandwich which had bacon, egg, tomatoes and onion. My sister got the smoked salmon that she liked, but not as much as I liked my sandwich. We also got the snickerdoodle cookie which was just okay. I will try other pastries on my future visits to see if I prefer other selections. Our coffee was solid. I love their lattes and their chai. I'm looking forward to their upcoming holiday drinks too. The barista who helped us gave great service. I recommend this spot if you're in the area. read more

So, I remember when Old Soul was actually good... not sure what's up now - but firstly I guess their lattes start at 16oz now (starbucksification) and even with all that extra milk - they could not hide that the beans were very obviously not dialed in. (Flavor was burnt and metallic - no discernible notes) The staff is friendly, and pastries are ok; but for a coffee shop to not be able to get a latte right (or a flat white I have gotten before that wasn't much better) is kind of sad. Very easily fixable by just dialing in the beans in the morning. Unfortunate. read more

We have went a few times and it's gotten worse and worse each time and went near when it opened. The service has been slow and the cooked food is very oily. The chef is just dousing the food in oil it feels. We tried asking for the WiFi password as we didn't see it posted and got a bit of an impatient, rude response. The coffee is alright, about average so I'll give it a bonus star for that. I don't think we will be coming back in the future when there's a few other choices on this street. read more

This place is really awful. Terrible coffee and terrible service. This place has NO soul. I don't know how they are still in business. I'm always seeing the trash cans filled with their cups of unfinished product. I really really hope that this place shuts down so we can get a better coffee house for the community. In the mean time I suggest hiring a whole new staff. Please remove that Monstera from the hallway by the bathrooms. It is receiving poor light and it's in a high traffic area where lots of people are bumping into it, the plant looks miserable. Old Soul is a Sacramento staple for sure, I've been to plenty of their other locations, mostly in Midtown and downtown, but this new one is a lot closer to Folsom/edh. The barista Joe was extremely friendly and recommended their seasonal latte and as per usual, it was absolutely freaking delicious. Very stoked to have an Old Soul around these parts on 50, and would definitely recommend. Lots of seating and clean inside, and it's located in Old Fair Oaks, which is hip and cool nowadays, with lots of midcentury flair, which I dig! First visit to Old Soul in Fair Oaks today, and unfortunately it was disappointing. I asked about the chicken Caesar wrap and was told it was very popular, so I ordered it to go. The cashier then added, "That's good because it's basically prepared to be taken to go." Not sure what that was supposed to mean, but it was an odd comment. For over $17, what I received was a small 5-inch wrap with no side, no chips--just three paper-thin orange slices. The wrap itself was just OK, but the Caesar dressing was extremely fishy, to the point it overpowered everything else. At $10 this would still feel overpriced, but at $17 it just felt insulting for the portion and quality. At the time of this review 7 of the 21 reviews are ONE STAR! With the low expectation for good food / service these days you have to try real hard to get reviews this bad. Overall, not worth the value, and I left pretty disappointed. One last note, the snarky and rude responses from the owner or manager on the Google reviews is very telling of what this place thinks of thier customers. read more

I was really disappointed and surprised to find out that the cafe hours had changed just minutes after I had bought something, and I felt unceremoniously rushed out of the place. The coffee smells amazing and it always looks crowded which is what brought us in. After a long wait in line, we ordered. I asked if the matcha was sweetened and the response was "lightly". I ordered an iced matcha and a shot of espresso. I also ordered a bag of coffee ground for French press. We waited and watched as the barista hurricaned himself around the lobby delivering drinks and food. Is there no one to help? Then, my matcha was made. Their matcha comes with cardamom or something else mixed in and was delicious- but a surprise as we did not know that was included in the drink. I waited and waited for my espresso shot, and it never came. I then went and stood in front of the barista and waited for him to look up so I could ask about it (I know it's probably just an oversight but wanted to remind him so it could get made). He NEVER looked up at me for the several minutes I stood in front of him. Didn't even say people names as drinks were put out. I used to manage a small coffee shop- I was pretty appalled at this point. I went to the young lady at the register and said "I'm sorry, the barista is busy and hasn't looked up at me, so I just wanted to let you know I'm still waiting for the espresso shot" and she let him know. It would have been so much easier to tell him if he had given me the chance.. I then went and sat down and waited. A few minutes later I turn and a shot is sitting there at the pass thru- no name called, no letting me know, nothing. The espresso and matcha were both very good but service is severely lacking. The food is even better: simple, well-made, and clearly prepared with care. My order came out quickly, and everything tasted fresh. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming every time I've been in. The Old Soul just recently opened in the space where Bad Fish Coffee used to be. While their interior and exterior are nice, the staff are NOT so nice. The first two visits here were fine; however our last week's experience was not good. The waiter flung open the door to take an order outside and crashed into my hand without even an apology. Then I asked about a lost pair of glasses and they couldn't take 30 seconds to look, saying if someone turned them in they would know. It was a busy Friday morning, but they had lots of help behind the counter, so looks like we'll be going to a more calm coffee shop up the street where the employees are pleasant and smile when you order your drink. read more
