Once again, Russell and his team make miracles happen. '69 Beetle that needed an engine swap, and they did it without any hiccups. Runs great, and they were able to fix the clutch cable tube/liner and give me a motor with an electronic ignition, amongst other items that needed addressing. My dad and I went to Old Speed in 1997 when I was a 20 year old college student and that engine on my 63' lasted 300k miles. After an accident we left it on the side of the road and the engine stolen for the dual carbs. Unfortunately my dad passed away in 2011...still buggin at 86 in a later model 68. Had My 1957 Bug worked on by The Guys at Old Speed and the work and customer service has been nothing less than top notch. I did a full disc brake conversion, had them set me up with some new wheels and a lowering job. I've had a couple issues come up in the past year with the disc brakes I purchased from them and they took it in and warrantied their work with no hassle. Also clean up a few other issues they noticed at no charge. Did not expect that type honesty from a Old VW shop but they stand by their work, even a year later. If your looking on Yelp, its because you don't know them personally and aren't sure if you should go there. Well, don't then. Don't expect any sort of customer service. There's no sort of consultancy in this place. They have been in the VW world for a very long time and they know their stuff (at least the owner does but you won't get all your work done by him so it doesn't matter; I picked my car vintage VW up with a few key bolts missing and not driving well and he had to personally fix it). I went there because of the name and because I know they have been around for ever. I won't go back. I'm disappointed because I wish they would have taken care of me but it seemed that I wasn't worth their time after I spent about $1,500. I gave them two stars because again, they have great ideas and experience, but lack passion and customer service which is what I look for to take care of my vintage VW. Peace read more

Russell at Old Speed is as professional and friendly as it gets. He not only did a great job rebuilding my front spindles he took the time to wait for me to get off work and showed me the correct way to assemble them on my beam. I will never go here again. Terrible customer service. I no longer own my VW BUS for the reason that I spent more than $2500 on parts here and got very little to no customer support on installation questions. The main reason I went to them was beause I heard nothing but good reviews from other customers. But from my personal experience is that they are quick to take your money but when it comes to asking technical questions they dont want to share there experiences (Maybe because they dont want ou to pay for there services.) Also I had them work on my BUS to adjust the carb and look at the steering and what I got back was supprising. Few days latter when I was looking inside the engine compartment I found a shop rag shoved inside the engine bay. Then I went to inspect the suspension and found that components were removed and not properly reinstalled. Make sure you deal with Russell only cause everytime I call there or try to do a transaction all the others are so stupid they dont even know how to ring up a transaction. I do want to add something positive. The rear lower suspension kit for a late model BUS is the best kit out there. You get a stock suspension ride with a lowered look. Customer service is very important and if they improved on that they could easily be a 5 STAR. Wish you the best of luck on your VW. read more
