Alex is a master mechanic. He knows everything about all makes of cars old and new, foreign and domestic, and he explains everything in terms I can understand and doesn't "talk down" to me because I am a woman. I had taken my Land Rover to Blackhawk AutoTech and they told me it would cost thousands to figure out what the problem was and they couldn't guarantee they could fix it even if they diagnosed the problem. So they charged several hundred dollars to run their diagnostics equipment, without a diagnosis being made. I took the car to Alex, he diagnosed and repaired the problem and it has been running well so far, 6 months later. Stopped by today to check the air in my tires on my way to Domenico's for my sandwich. The air and water station is in the back meaning to the right if you're going north on San Ramon Valley. You don't need to bother anyone to start the air as it's all ready to go which is nice. I quickly checked my pressure in my tires and realized they were still ok so didn't have to do anything! This is the only place I can take my car; the only place where the mechanics are truly trustworthy. Over the course of 8 years, I've taken 3 cars there, and their prices are always completely reasonable, the turnaround time for all repairs is 1-2 business days, and the staff is super-knowledgeable and courteous. Oh the only downside of this place is the elderly man who runs the register in the evenings -- possibly the rudest, socially inept person I've ever met. And he smells. Just ignore him. read more

My mom has been coming to this place for years and she loves it, but I only recently tried out their auto repair for myself. I have an older BMW (1997) and it had died on the freeway. I was towed to a shop that quoted me $600 to fix the expansion tank, thermostat, and fill the radiator with coolant. When I brought it to Old Town Arco, the guys said I only needed the expansion pump- everything else was fine! They quoted me $200 and it actually came to about $195, which was a nice little surprise. These guys are very fair, incredibly honest, and they get repairs done very efficiently. I can't recommend them high enough, definitely take your car here! read more

Been going to Old Town for a few years, on the advice of a friend. The guys there always do the best job for a reasonable, no-BS price. They never try to get you to do more work than you need done. Only one time were they not able to fix something that was done wrong by an out-of-area shop(that BS shop said OEM parts used but were not). Old Town had to replace all the bad aftermarket parts with OEM and then it worked perfectly. Old Town is the most practical repair shop you will ever go to, as they do everything to keep the price down and still do a great job. Yes, it's cash only, but how can you complain when you see a $0.30 price difference in comparison to other gas stations?? The attendants are nice and one of them always says "Thank you, ma'am.
