Typically, I trust the dentist when they recommend a procedure. Last year, when a dentist at Diversey Dental Studio suggested that I get Invisalign to eliminate the need for a night guard I took a pass. Especially when she said that my bottom teeth would require bonding following the Invisalign treatment. For the record- I have no complaints about the night guard. I responded that if I wanted to have my teeth straightened, I would see an orthodontist and get regular braces. Her face fell, and she stuttered a bit. That indicated to me that the $$ she was hunting for had flown out the window. Let me say that I have two generous dental insurance policies, and my gut tells me that this thirst for money motivates the dentists at Diversey Dental Studio. It always feels like I'm getting an upsell from them. Not good. I did not heed my inner voice and returned for a cleaning. Another dentist informed me that I needed to replace the filling on tooth #15 and needed a crown on a broken upper molar. I spent 2.5 hours in the chair to have both procedures done. After she filled tooth #15 it had a divot in the middle that was so deep I could fit half a tic-tac inside it. When I asked why it wasn't flat she said that she was a "perfectionist" and made the shape more like a natural tooth. Um, okay. To make matters worse, a third of my night guard broke off when I tried it following the procedures. I returned a week later to have the crown filed down and told the dentist that the crowned tooth was sensitive, and I had not been able to chew on it. She filed down the crown and filed a lower crown beneath the molar which covered a (very expensive) implant. She filed the teeth down so much that they no longer meet! She told me to wait two weeks to see if the sensitivity lessened. After two more weeks of not being able to chew on the right side of my mouth I made an appointment with Diversey Dental Studio's owner Dr. Jacqueline Rodriguez who confirmed that the upper molar and lower tooth no longer meet. This was causing additional pain in another lower tooth due to the misalignment of my bite. Rodriguez prescribed steroids and said I may need a root canal. She referred me to an endodontist that had many bad reviews that mentioned price gouging, so I ignored her recommendation and returned to my "old" dentist, "Dr. A" a few days later. Well, Dr. A. who has over 20 years' experience, said that I need antibiotics not steroids. He said that the filling that the Diversey dentist replaced on tooth #15 (for $433) seemed questionable as he had filled that tooth (for $150) in January 2023 with very strong composite material. Dr. A. repaired the divot that the "perfectionist" left me with and he sent me to an excellent endodontist for a root canal and he urged me to do it soon. Do the dentists at Diversey Dental have amazing resumes and an excellent bedside manner? Yes. Are they trying to pay off their student loans by padding the treatment plans? Perhaps. Do I trust them with my teeth? Never Again. read more

My daughter was told the office took her insurance and was In-Network, they used an Out-of-Network dentist for the service and billing. The cost was more than 2X's for Out-of-Network. read more

Dr. Mansi Raina and the staff were fantastic. I have always been a bit scared of the dentist and Dr. Raina and the staff helped me feel comfortable throughout. They were thorough, carefully explained what they found and how they were going to resolve any issues, and were incredibly sensitive. I got a cleaning, x-rays, and some cavities filled/reworked. I'm extremely satisfied with all that I got done. I highly recommend Dr. Raina and the team for any of your dental needs! read more

I have been going to Dr. Feffer for over 2 years now, and he is very good. He has always clearly explained all procedures, including both the benefits and limitations of each course of treatment. I also needed gum grafts which were beyond the scope of what he normally does, and he recommended a terrific periodontist. That's a pretty big deal, because I had to have four of these surgeries and they are uncomfortable, so I really appreciated the quality of care that I received through his recommendation. Everyone else at Dr. Feffer's is great, too! Jing does my cleanings, and she is very thorough. And Tami and Griselda at the front desk are awesome. They are very friendly, and are always willing to go over billing and insurance issues. In fact, I like everyone so much I drive 35 minutes into the city to see them. read more

I started seeing Dr. Feffer in June 2020, right after the pandemic started. I needed a lot of work done after years of moving around the country and not being able to establish a relationship with a dentist. I moved to Chicago in 2011 and even then it took nine years to find Dr. Feffer. I had a toothache on a Friday afternoon and called several dentists. I called Dr. Feffer's office at 4:00 p.m. and got an appointment the next morning. He arranged for a consultation with an endodontist, which led to a two part root canal in early July. We worked on all of my teeth quadrant by quadrant over the next two years. I spent many hours at his office. Dr. Feffer explained every procedure and everything he did during each procedure. We finally finished everything after two years. It was quite a journey! Dr. Feffer retired in December 2022 and Dr. Rodriguez took over the practice. Dr. Rodriguez's style is quite different than Dr. Feffer's, but equally impressive. While Dr. Feffer had a bit of a manic energy, Dr. Rodriguez is very low key. She communicates extremely well. I had crowns put on two teeth yesterday and it is now a one day process. Dr. Rodriguez's team now makes crowns in the office. No more temporary crowns and coming back for a second appointment. Very efficient and no pain. Some the staff have worked at the practice for several years. They're all very pleasant people and do everything they can to work with your insurance carrier. I work with a lot of doctor's offices as part of my job, so I know what a hassle it can be to coordinate care and deductibles with insurance companies and patients. He has a very nice bedside manner, and explains all the steps he is taking when doing a procedure. He has given me a few shots, but did so with the least amount of discomfort. I began seeing Dr Feffer in November of 2018. He is by far the best dentist I have every been to. You are immediately put at ease. X-rays are taken and necessary work that needs to be done is discussed. I'll admit I was taken abac by the shape my mouth was in. Before discovering Dr. Feffer's practice, I use to dread the dentist office. To the point that I neglected my teeth for many years. I was fortunate enough to discover his office roughly a year and a half ago and my experience with him and the staff has been beyond fantastic. I went to Dr Feffers office with a refence of my friend after having terrible experience in another dentist . Dr. Feffer is everything you would want in your dentist - gentle, caring - super cool and experienced He takes the time to address each concern and explains everything in detailed. Definitely a shady dentist that upsells you at every point during your appointments. After going my entire adult life with only a few cavities, I had countless "old fillings" replaced by Dr. Feffer despite unclear and jargon filled explanations as to why they were necessary. Dr. Feffer is constantly late for appointments, frequently mismanages time and routinely requires additional follow ups/rescheduled appointments (the billing is also a mess!) in order to complete his work. The final straw was when I chipped a filling that Dr. Feffer had done and asked to be seen that day (obviously) because I was in pain with incredible sensitivity to air, water, etc. I was told I couldn't be seen that day, and had to throw a fit in order to be seen. Once seen, Dr. Feffer proceeded to argue with me that I had only told the receptionist that I was having "tooth sensitivity" -- wrong! Overall, my one and only bad experience with a dentist has been with Dr. Feffer -- steer clear! read more

Dr. Feffer helped me get my smile back! I have been a patient for over 10 years. Being a hardhead, which is just the way I am. I did not take the doctors original advice about gum recession pockets. By choice, I would get three cleanings a year, thinking I was avoiding further damage. Wrong! Doc was persistent on me seeing a specialist. So I went to a family friend who is a Periodontist and yes, Dr. Feffer, was correct. So I had pocket reduction and scraping procedure done. Ouch! Dr. Feffer worked hand-in-hand with my periodontist, reviewing the best treatment plan to get the best results. After my procedure, I went back to Dr. Feffer for some cosmetic surgery. Not only was I and my wife impressed, but also the periodontal group. Amazing (I am no longer a frowner) my teeth look brand-new! Dr. Feffer always has your best interest in mind. She performed the check-up and all procedures herself, and was very careful to work around any sensitive areas in the mouth. Dr. Raina was also very diligent in ensuring a proper fit before I left the office, and did a great job educating me on the severity and impacts of any issues. Both Jing and Dr. Feffer are very thorough and went over my x rays and photos with me in detail. Not that I could tell you the difference between an incisor or a premolar, but I appreciate how thoughtful their explanations were. Feffer had me laughing at his dry humor that made the 1.5-hour visit worth it. I haven't been to the dentist in years and decided to finally take the plunge and make it happen. Dr. Feffer's office is, conveniently, in my neighborhood, so I gave them a chance. My experience was wonderful. I felt very welcome (being greeted by Dr. Feffer at the front door by my first name). My hygenist, Jing, was knowledgeable and sweet. Everybody is very communicative and have a very calm demeanor. Equipment-wise, they seem to have a state-of-the-art digital imaging system. It only took about 5 minutes to do a full set of X-rays. We then followed it up with actual digital photographs of my teeth and a full cleaning (which went well and she did a great job). Both Jing and Dr. Feffer were very good at explaining the good things and bad things that they found. I actually felt like I learned a lot. I'd recommend them to others! read more

I have spent 20+ years crafting and honing my reputation. When doctors with needles see me coming, they shake in their scrubs. They hide behind their nurses. They give up practicing. No not really... but over the years I have built my reputation as the Van Helsing of needles. You want my blood, vampire? You better cowboy up. At a particular doctor's office in West Virginia, specializing in orthodontics, I'm known as The Biter. Down the road at the general practice physician's office, I'm Kicky McGhee. And at the local dentist's office? I'm simply The Terror. I don't dislike doctors. I actually enjoy their general brisk gruffness. But as soon as that needle makes an appearance, all bets are off. That doctor becomes my mortal enemy. And then I met Dr. Feffer. As with all first time physician appointments, I go in with the best of hopes. And Dr. F really did meet and exceed my expectations. He was gentle and kind and made humorous comments. Not even the brisk gruffness I had come to accept with mild affection in doctors. I was beginning to fear I wouldn't be able to maintain my street cred. And then he let me know that while I had waited to find a dentist in the city (constructing my character of terror takes time, children) some of my fillings had sprung leaks, so to speak. Here it was. Van Helsing's shining moment. The time had come to show Dr. F who I really am. A menacing, needling-hating, biting, kicking, pain-in-the-rear-end-of-a-patient who would fill the pit of his stomach with icy dread when he saw me breeze through his doors. And... I froze. I couldn't do it. My second appointment back was going to be a doozy in his chair, and I just couldn't make the Van Helsing come out. He explained too much and made me too comfortable. He reduced my growling tiger to a mewling kitten who couldn't be bothered to put up a fight. Don't get me wrong, those first needles hurt like a mother and I wouldn't ask for them again unless I was threatened with being a toothless hillbilly, but the battle in me was gone. I simply lied there and took it. Like a boss, actually. (Right, Dr. F?!) Of course now I'm ruined. No doctor in Chicago will fear me now after they've heard the tales of my subordination. How I no longer faint out of sheer mulishness. How I no longer bring out the Holy water and garlic when my blood is about to be stolen, er... drawn. Oh the shame... Ruined reputation aside, I still have love for Dr. Feffer and his office girls. They could soften the heart of Colonel Meow if they so chose. read more

I could've sworn I wrote a review months ago, but it seems to have disappeared so I'll write another. I was working down the street from Dr. Feffer's office when I cracked one of my molars. I hadn't been to the dentist for a few years because of a bad experience I had when I first moved to Chicago. I'd never been afraid of the dentist til that visit so I had really put off returning and was terrified to go to another dentist for fear that I'd have another poor experience. As our regular customers came into our store I'd ask them which dentist they went to and a lot of them said they'd been to Dr. Feffer. I decided to give it a shot because my pain couldn't get much worse! I walked straight over to speak with him and he actually sat with me in the lobby of his office and explained some things to me. I asked him a lot of questions and told him about my resistance to novacaine which he told me was poor technique and why he could guarantee me I'd feel nothing. I was surprised, I actually cried... I know! But I was feeling relief already. I made an appointment and came back to have my tooth fixed. He went through and took xrays and pictures and told me why I was having the problems I was having. Got me numb on the first try! And I was done before I knew it. He also tried to curb the expenses for me because I have no insurance. It was the best dentist visit I've ever had. I went back this week for a cleaning and Sundy (Sorry I don't know how you spell your name!!!) cleaned my teeth and was super friendly. I had a few other issues from not being to the dentist in so long so I got some of those fixed this week as well and felt absolutely nothing and have one more appointment left and hopefully I'll be set! No more waiting in between for cleanings. I've learned my lesson. The entire staff is hilarious and helpful. Hard to find in a big city sometimes. I highly recommend going to Dr. Feffer. You know you don't have to floss all your teeth.....only the ones you want to keep. read more

While I don't mind going to the dentist, and have my whole life, I've never actually particularly liked any dentist I've gone to. I've always disliked the fact that they are in and out while the hygienist does most of the work and very little is explained to you in terms of your care. Have a cavity? Just take their word for it. After all, one filling is good money to a dental practice. At the recommendation of a colleague, I scheduled a routine cleaning with Dr. Feffer. I was glad to see ample street parking and convenient location. The office staff was very friendly and the doctor came up to introduce himself while I was still in the waiting room. Theresa handled the x-rays and cleaning and was as nice as professionally competent as could be. I always hate little things like having to almost choke on my own spit before they will suction it out, and it was little considerations like those that she was thoughtful about that made my visit completely painless. When the doctor came in, he was incredibly friendly and took a few minutes to make small talk and get to know me a little bit which I appreciated. He then very thoroughly went through my x-rays with me step by step and explained it all as we went so that I could understand what he was looking at. I did in fact have a cavity this visit and he made sure I understood exactly where it was and showed me on digital pictures the cavity itself. This is a class act, and if you are looking for a dentist who will know you by name and give you very personal and careful attention, I highly recommend Dr. Feffer and his staff. I was seeing Dr. Patel for two filling replacement, which had been advised by my previous dentist in Atlanta. After moving to Chicago I wanted to have the procedures taken care of. First of all, the office is super nice, convenient location, very friendly front desk staff. Dr. Patel is very friendly and charming too. And if youre of the type that just wants to see a dentist once in a while and then getting all taken care of and be done for the next 10 years, thats a good option. If you are more like me and want to have a sustainable approach to your teeth, I would not recommend. As I said, I was aware of two teeth, which needed filling replacement. Out came I with a treatment plan of nine positions, which needed new fillings. There was no discussion about if this urgent or can be under observation, there was the impression that everything should be taken care of asap. So I started with upper right teeth first, got new fillings in all of them. After the procedure my teeth started to cause pain when chewing, so I went back. After a bit of bite adjustment, Dr. Patel started to talk about root canals if the pain wouldnt cease. This is where I got really scared as it didnt make sense to me, how I could go from going there without any serious issue to suddenly needing a root canal. I found another dentist. She did a thorough bite adjustment which enabled me to chew again pain free, she didnt agree that a root canal would be suggested. Per her assessment there was no immediate need to treat any of the other teeth listed on the treatment plan but to rather take some time to observe to keep the teeth intact as long as possible. Two of the positions had been identified by her as staining only. Again, I get that those assessments are subjective and I think there are people who are happy with Dr. Patels approach but it did not work for me. read more

I've been going to Dr. Feffer for about 12 years now. I've lived all over Chicago, and even over seas. I make sure to always come back to him no matter where I live. I am in my mid thirties and have had almost ever tooth worked on. He's not cheap, but he's not sloppy either. I've invested a lot of money of the years and believe in his work. Most of it has lasted that long. For one tooth, a year later after he worked on it, it was having issues, and he is repairing it for free. Great work, experienced, latest digital Xrays, takes digital pictures. Oh, and he is personal, great communication skills, and treats you like family. read more

I'm not sure how long that I went to Dr. Feffer.....at least 15-20 years. So many stories throughout the years, after the first time I was there I was put at ease and put my complete trust in him. If there is definition of a perfect dentist in the dictionary, they just have a picture of Dr. Feffer and his staff. I moved away 8 years ago and still haven't found a dentist that holds a candle to him. I credit him for saving several teeth that were botched from other dentists. I recently moved to Chicago and chose Dr. Feffer's dental office for my teeth cleaning based off his Yelp reviews. I called for an appointment and was able to get one scheduled the next day. The oral hygienist was very proactive in informing me what procedures she was going to do and was extremely thorough at cleaning my teeth. I came into Dr. Feffer's office knowing that I need my wisdom teeth removed and was seeking oral surgeon referrals. He and his staff gave me oral surgeon referrals, answered all of my questions, and exceeded my expectations. It is for good reason why Dr. Feffer has great reviews. read more

Dr. Feffer provided excellent insight in fixing a couple tooth spaces I had developed ever since my braces were removed years ago. I told Dr. Feffer I was ok with my current smile, as the only option I knew was Invisalign and the costly solution, so wasn't willing to commit that kind of money. He then recommended composite bonding to fill the spaces; which I had never heard of. He stayed after his office hours and showed me pictures of past patients in his office, making me feel more comfortable about the procedure. I decided to just do it and couldn't be happier with the results. There's always the risk the bonds will chip, but for me, it was the most cost effective and, after the fact, definitely the quickest/visually best way to go about it! I've been a patient of Dr. Feffer's since 2006. His work is impeccable. You cannot distinguish where a filling ends and the tooth begins. He has taken care of me with insurance, without insurance, through a divorce, through a career change, through the terminal illness of a loved one and he has always worked with the circumstances. When between insurances, he helped me make the most necessary and affordable treatment choices. When I started my own business his office staff helped me understand the available coverage options for private insurance. His stories are hilarious and soothing. He is always able to put me at ease. The waiting room has a skylight and was just remodeled. The hygienist's bay is clean and comfortable. The other chairs look out over Diversey so it's very relaxing when you're having more involved procedures. You can look up at the sky or watch people running errands in the neighborhood. read more

Terrible person. He messed up my filling and refused to take ownership of it. I had to pay twice as much to get it fixed again by another dentist. He and his staff were really nasty about it too and made me feel like it was my fault. He filled 8 "cavities" for me in total - 8?!!!?! I'm really questioning now whether they were even actual cavities after this incident or if he just wanted to pay for his ridiculous alligator boots at my expense. Not bad. Funny guy, decent jokes, clean place, etc. But the business definitely has a used-car-salesman approach. After the first visit, told me I needed to replace all my fillings and come in for 3 cleanings a year. Total after insurance was $3000 out of pocket.
