This is not the case with Dina! She is efficient and doesn't skimp on quality. I'll come in with an idea of what I want on my nails and she takes the lead from there. I would say the Salon can be a hit or miss, last time I went, I went to someone who really thinned out my nails, and I had to wait a while to let them regrow and get thicker again. I will also say sometimes they can be kind of loud in that the nail techs will speak to each other in loud conversations as they're doing nails. The atmosphere was comfortable with good chatter, it was busy but I didn't have to wait after calling in the same day for an appointment. The lady I had did a great job cleaning up my cuticles that are always a mess, better than some other manicures I've gotten lately. However, I went in with long nails and before I noticed she had cut mine all down shorter than I've ever had them since I was a child. It was frustrating because I made sure they were long and healthy before going to get my manicure before a girl's weekend and ended up with embarrassing stubby nails. I couldn't even do my job (which requires using my hands to do precision work) because of how short they were that I could not grab onto small decorative details. While visiting a girlfriend in Chicago recently, we decided to pamper ourselves and head to her favorite nail salon, Old Town Nails. Despite not having an appointment, we were able to quickly be seen as walk-ins. We chose our colors and headed over to our manicure station as they were ready. With the pandemic in full swing, they did a great job of wiping everything down between customers, and each station had plexiglass shields in place to further promote safety and social distancing. I chose a traditional manicure (meaning not the long-lasting polish and not the gel manicure), and the technician who did my nails applied it meticulously -- it was perfect! It dried surprisingly quickly, but I still babied my hands for a few hours to make sure it stayed perfect. And perfect it stayed, actually for a number of days! As someone who frequently washes their hands and who can't have chipped nail polish at work (honest, it's policy!), I was pleased to see my manicure last me through the week. If you need some pampering that will look perfect and last you longer than your usual manicure, make Old Town your first and last stop for those perfectly polished nails! read more

Fortunately, there are plenty of other nail salons in and around Old Town, because I will not go back to Old Town Nails. In short they: overbooked, provided a terrible environment with bad customer service, and my manicure is terrible. I waited over 45 minutes before I was ever even seated for my pedicure when the employee had ASKED me to come in early when I called and made my appointment. Once seated I was just left hanging out in the pedicure chair for an additional 15 minutes. In total 35 minutes over my originally scheduled appointment. I get that the wait time isn't always an exact science and if it had ended there, I probably wouldn't have written a review, but a nail appointment should be relaxing - that's part of the reason I go and what I pay money for. However, while I was getting my manicure the woman who I spoke with on the phone came up to me and said it is what I should expect....I stated that I understand if I were a walk in, but I had an appointment and she'd specifically asked me to come in early. She said yes she had, and then proceeded to talk at me in the middle of my service. What could be less ideal? To add insult to injury, my manicure looked nothing like the simple, slightly thinner than usual, French manicure I had asked for. Overall, very poorly done. I'd recommend not wasting your time or money. While I'd had past, better, experiences at Old Town Nails, I wouldn't risk personally repeating that or having anyone I know have it happen to them. read more

I normally walk in to nail salons, but can appreciate that Chicago is a busy city and locations to do acrylic are limited.
