I have been going here for my last 4 appointments. They are always so courteous and if I ever needed to wait, it was minimal. Today, I brought my 16 yo autistic son with me for a pedicure. He was really excited and showed his enthusiasm through loud laughters and squealing. I thought it bothered the patrons so I was going to have him wait in the car (with AC) for my nails to be done. The staff was so great and insisted he wait inside with me. I had several of them approach me individually and explain they had a family member with autism too. They also offered my son candy and a bottled water. They were so great!! Annnnnd Henry did amazing on my nails and pedi. Highly recommend this place. They are also dog friendly. My son is terrified of dogs but they did great navigating to make sure he had adequate space to feel comfortable. read more

Since recently moving to Chicago I've tried several different nail salons in the Gold Coast/Old Town/River North area. Karen's has been my absolute favorite by far! The consistency is on point compared to other nail salons in the area and for Chicago the prices are not bad. I usually get my acrylics filled and have gotten several different shapes/styles at this salon. Every time the shape has came out fabulous! I also love this salon because my nails rarely seem to chip and they end up lasting for about 3 weeks. I've also gotten several pedicures here which have all been fantastic and relaxing. Horrible experience ever... I went to get a refill and the lady did a horrible job. I told her I wanted her to cut them a little bit and she over did it now they are super short. Plus the French tip line is so thic and it's a straight line. I told the lady and didn't care and continue. Will not recommend them and will not be going back. read more

Quick service but went in for a no-chip manicure and they gave me the wrong color chrome powder and the polish was pooled up on my cuticle. Nails were shaped unevenly and my no-chip polish chipped and cracked after two days. On top of that, was charged $65 for it. I have gotten no-chip with chrome at multiple places in the city and have never paid more than $60, even at really nice places. read more

Confused how there's so many 5 star ratings because my experience was subpar. It definitely has potential to be 4-5 stars if some issues are fixed. Sanitation is a major concern. My nail tech used tools that looked dirty. While doing my pedicure, the pumice stone slipped out of her hands and she picked up off the dirty floor to continue scrubbing my feet. Yikes. The boss was next to her and watched her do this, twice. I personally did not see my tech or any others use sanitized tools and for that reason alone, I would never come back. My tech was careful but her work was very sloppy. I think she's not as experienced bc I could hear her tell the boss in Vietnamese how she was worried about her work on the client before me. She didn't give me any hot towels, lotion or massage on my hands. As a result of rushing, I didn't get services I was supposed to be provided and the services that were provided were not that great. I don't really fault her as much as I fault the boss because they talked about it in Vietnamese but laughed it off. Boss could have trained the tech on the spot and instructed her to slow down to rectify any further issues. read more

I am not one to leave negative Yelp reviews but in this case because it has to do with the cleanliness of the salon, especially during a pandemic, I feel it's necessary. I was coming in for a mani pedi and the women told me to sit wherever. The first spot I went had residue from someone's nails that have been previously filed, and actual nail clippings in the seat. There also was a dirty paper towel on the side, so I chose a different, cleaner looking area. When the women came in she moved me back to the first seat and when I pointed it out she "wiped" it away. Luckily they cover the inside bath with plastic wrap so I proceeded with the pedi. When she started to work on my feet I noticed the towel she was using was dirty and/or stained. Another thing I noticed is the employees did not wipe down the pedicure chairs, or baths, in between customers. At this point I was half way through my pedicure, but if I saw this before sitting down I would have walked out and gone to the extremely clean salon half a block away. The people were nice but I won't go back because of how grossed out I was by the lack of cleaning that occurred between customers and the nail clippings everywhere. read more

Really disappointed in my first (and last) experience here. I made an appointment for 3:30, then on arrival was told (after ten minutes of being ignored) to take a seat. An hour later I get wedged in for my manicure. The tech paid no real attention to what I wanted-- I told her to keep as much length as possible, she sanded it all down. I had to ask for them to be made even, and rounded (after having requested same at beginning). Asked for more trimming of dead skin at sides of nails, which she balked about, concerned about sensitivity (ma'am? That skin is dead. Trim it away). She chatted with her coworkers and barely made eye contact with me, her client --- clearly phoning it in these days. The application of polish was *poor* (see photos) and inconsistent...a day later it's already chipping. She didn't go to edge and under the mail to secure the polish from wear. Twenty bucks. Yeah, you get what you pay for. I wasted my money. read more

This is the best nail salon I have ever been to. I call to make same-day appointments, come in the evening on weekdays, and rarely need to wait - even when it's busy. I get no chip on my fingernails for $35 (+ $15 tip = $50). I am always extremely happy with the result (nail shape, polish job, etc.), which is why I keep coming back. Many nail color choices and a good location. They have a nice space where the pedicure chairs are in one open room. I got a pedicure on the brutally cold Monday we had. I had a broken toe nail near the nail bed and the male nail technician actually mended it with some "nail bandaid stick" and glue. I have never seen that before. it was very cool he did that. read more

After realizing that no-chip manicures destroy and dehydrate my nails, I've been on a mission to find a reasonably priced manicure that doesn't chip within a day or two. For $15 at Karen's I got exactly that! The photo posted to this review was taken today (Saturday) of a manicure I received on Tuesday evening. Barely a chip at all so far. They did a great job and they have a great polish selection. Additionally, the place is clean and spacious. I'm not sure whether Karen's has a mani/pedi weekly special, but regardless, I'll be back here again. Update-- I got another manicure and it lasted just as long, even though I went in the pool a handful of times. As a swimmer my whole life, I've noticed that the chlorine typically ruins a manicure. I'm not sure why exactly a regular manicure at Karen's lasts about a week, but it is definitely going to be my new go-to salon! read more

Great service and my no-chip lasted almost 3 weeks!! Typically with no chip, my pointer fingers start peeling from the sides after a week or so. This no-chip lasted 2.5 weeks in perfect condition and only then started breaking up at the TIP of the nail. I love this because it means the sides were sealed so well. read more

I had a dip polish removed and then a dip manicure. After soaking my hands to remove the dip polish I was left with a film of acrylic covering my hands. I tried scrubbing it off and couldn't get it off and my nails are poorly shaved and uneven. And I would not come back. read more

I have been going to Kim since moving back to Chicago from San Francisco last year. I originally selected the salon based on convenience, but absolutely love how Kim does my manicure and pedicure. She does an excellent job on my feet, taking her time to make sure they are very soft when she is done and my toenails look great. I do no chip on my fingers. Kim always does a great job with the shape and is so thorough with the process that my nails not only look great, but last twice as long as they did in SF. I actually have gone 3 weeks with no chipping, but the grow out drives me crazy when I go that long so I stick to every 2 weeks. Kim is amazing! The salon is clean and friendly. Parking is easy if you are not the walking type and the pricing is reasonable. My husband goes to Lilly when his schedule permits for mani/pedi and she does a great job as well. This place is pretty unprofessional. Lots of color selections and good technique. However, the woman doing my nails took three phone calls throughout my manicure, two of which were to set up a carpet cleaning appointment at her own personal house. She constantly interrupted the manicure to check her phone and take calls. I went to go wash my hands and come back to her texting/on her phone and had to wait for 5 minutes before she started my manicure back up. Then I look over and another nail tech has his bare feet on a customer chair since he didn't have anyone's nails to do. Just very unprofessional/disappointing service since you're paying not only for the service, but a place to relax a bit for an hour. read more

I actually came to this salon hoping that I could get a nail design since they post pictures of different designs. I get there and they say they don't do designs even though the sign at the salon posts that they do. Not good customer service to mislead people like that. I ended up getting a french manicure with black tips and the technician did do a good job even though she wasn't curteous in the slightest. At the end of the manicure, she had me put my nails in front of a small crappy desk fan instead of the one for nails where all the other customers were. She didn't say anything to me at the end of the manicure. No thank you for the service or anything. Rude. The only other good thing I can say about this place is it's conveniently located close to public transit. If you want good customer service though, I recommend you go elsewhere. read more
