Saw this place after shopping at Costco and decided to look it up on Yelp. I gave them a call, and they were able to take my baby in the same day--such a lifesaver! I just rescued my dog, and he really needed a good bath. When I picked up Nugget, he smelled amazing and looked so clean! Nugget is so happy and wanted to give a pawfect review! The staff here are incredibly friendly and professional, and they took great care of him. We truly hit the jackpot finding this hidden gem, and we'll definitely be coming back from now on. Now I'm sure for a lot of people that go to old town pet grooming, the experience and results are good, but it just so happens to be that I am one of the unlucky ones to have results that I am not happy with whatsoever. It's a bummer for me to have to leave this review on a place that seemed to be a great spot (as far as reviews go) for my Pomeranian bandit. After hours of researching grooming spots, I was convinced that this would be the perfect place for my pets grooming needs, especially with the great customer service they had when calling. When arriving, They assured me that going short for him would be ideal, because of the many coats of fur he has. I was discouraged when I received a phone call from them 25 min later, telling me that they needed to go "ALOT" shorter than anticipated. It's upsetting that Those "good" feelings about this place changed when picking bandit up. I'm sad to say that after my first time going here, it will be my last time going here. Took my dog few time here. First few times were fine but third time, she looked awful. She's the calmest dog so there's no reason that her haircut was u even. I'm giving 1 star because the guys response was "if you don't like our service, I have friends in the business I can refer you to". Usually I do not write reviews, but this need to be addressed. I took my two fur babies for the first time after driving by a couple of days ago. Grooming and availability were fine, the issue was the extra charges. My two babies are between 10lbs and 11lbs. When I called for the appointments I was quoted $75 for each dog. It included haircut, gland, nails, and cleaning ears. Everything was fine until the 1.5 service time for each dog was up. I showed up to pick up and was told an extra $10 will be added for each dog. I asked why and she said that is "how we do it here, the final price is determine after grooming has been completed" wait! what? since when extra costs aren't authorize prior to services? I was never told this over the phone! and the extra charge were due to both dogs not stand the whole time, so those who do get a discount? lol $170 dollars and and teeth are not bushed, no bows or anything? that is insane. Will never take the dogs back to this place nor I recommend it. read more

Today I took my new dog to get their first ever grooming! His coat was so completely matted and I was warned ahead of time that it would be complicated to remove because it was so close to the skin. Poor baby was neglected before he came into my care and I honestly had no idea what to do but thank god Gina was able to work a miracle on my dog and not only tastefully shaved down his coat but was able to completely transform him! Great spot in garden grove for dog grooming! When left with others, my dog JJ is known to get psycho. However, the owners are always welcoming JJ with open arms every few months for grooming. When I pick up JJ, he always looks so fresh and so clean! I have recently rescued a dog (Chip) and now bring him here as well for grooming. I believe their prices are worth the value of work put into taking care of my dogs. I attempted to personally groom JJ 1 time during the pandemic. Service was subpar, my dog was not handled well, and her haircut was bad. When my brother and I walked in, we were greeted by a man who was kind and attentive. When one of the groomers came to take a look, she was rough and aggressive with my dog, making her very anxious. There was no introduction and no attempts to calm her down when she was visibly stressed.I should've taken her back right away, but I did not. That was my mistake. We tried to explain how we wanted her to look, but was repeatedly bulldozed with how they thought she should be styled and there was some confusion and mixed messages. The service was done quick and when we went to pick her up, we were disappointed. My dog was clean, but her beautiful soft fur was basically shaved when I only wanted a trim. I can barely pet her now, since I am sensitive to the prickliness. It would've been forgiveable, if not for the fact that my dog looked terrified and stressed when we picked her up. I could tell the groomers did not handle her with care at all. Overall this was a bad experience for both owner and pet. read more

This place needs 5 stars! Gina and Harold are wonderful loving people! I had been taking my first fur baby Paulie for 8 years. Unfortunately Paulie passed away a few months ago but I never had a bad experience with them. Paulie was a little difficult because he was scared of baths but Harold would greet him with open arms and kisses every time! Brought my dog here to get groomed. She's never been to a groomers. She's turning 1 later this month. They were able to accommodate my dog for a same day appointment. When I went in I was a bit skeptical because I heard one of the ladies yelling at a dog she was grooming, mind you the dog was barely moving on the table, but I guess that's not ok. So I continued to fill out papers and explain to them that my dog is a really nervous dog. They said it was ok and I left her there to be groomed. They called me about two hours later and said she was ready. Right when I walk in, one of the ladies starts complaining that my dog was too nervous and they were not going to groom her and wanted to call me to pick her up. However they had both ladies work on her and charged me extra because of that. She then went on to complain that my dog would twitch with every noise and l can't take her back to them. She went on to say that it would be an inconvenience to her that I would take my dog back because if my dog moved and got cut, there goes their earnings. She said over and over " we are here to make money and if your dog moves and we cut her there goes our money, it doesn't make sense to bring her. "So I thanked them and glad to say I won't go back. Even though my dog is a very nervous dog, I feel she could have told me differently, more professionally. What bugged me the most is she said "we did the best we could" as she threw her hands in the air. I took that as "if her haircut doesn't look good oh well that's your dogs fault". She recommended I put my dog on pills to calm her and get a trainer because she "needs a lot of help". She doesn't bite, bark, or is aggressive. She knows her name and listens to commands. She even knows tricks. So no mam, I don't think my dog needs a lot of help. She came from a home that wasn't too loving. Since I got her, she's been improving, but still nervous. She doesn't need help, just love. I feel that these groomers weren't the kindest and maybe another kinder, patient groomer would have been best for my dog. When I bathe my dog she doesn't even move and I leave her smelling better than they did. I feel that they just sprayed her with a scent because she didn't even smell that clean. Happy that she got a trim because she needed it, didn't enjoy the experience. Paid $63 for a 8 pound chihuahua mix to get bathed, groomed, and trim nails. read more

I have been taking my little girl here for the last three years and am so grateful I found them. Gina does an amazing job of grooming her, but even more than that, she goes above and beyond to document and accommodate whatever health issues she may be struggling with to make sure she is safe. From her collapsed trachea to her birth defect foot with toenails that grow crazy and require extra attention, she keeps track of all that information plus any new skin bumps or issues that may come up so she is aware. I've had issues in the past with other groomers who were not as detailed and caring in that way and my dog has come back with nicks and cuts because of it. She even gave me a heads up on an ear infection I had missed and took extra care to trim all the hairs in her ear and clean it all out. And their pricing is EXTREMELY fair. I have paid $30 more for the worst cut ever from PetSmart. I would highly recommend them to other small to medium dog owners. read more

Barely write a bad review as I am in customer service myself and would know how a bad review would affect a business. But I have write this so future dogs owners can prepare and know what to expect when taking their dogs here. The man who answered the phone and greetings was so nice and sweet, but his wife and another woman were the ones who doing the grooming. It's true that my 2 dogs came in with matted fur but the woman quickly told me she have to shave it all because it's hard to brush them. I agreed but I also asked to keep their faces to be round and cute as they didn't have any tangles there. I came back seeing my Malshi (pictures below) all trim short on the face and mouth and looked nothing like "teddy bear face" like she told me earlier she would do. Especially 2 of here ears looked completely obviously different that I had to tell her to even them out. She was rough and quick on my dog and when she came close, my dog was shaking so bad. Her back shave was also patchy. For my other dog, same for the face, she said that was the best that she can do because it was so hard to approach him with the clipper. That's why you have to be patient as a groomer, no? I told her how much I want them to be round and cute but she keep jumping in while I talked so I couldn't finish my sentences. My shihtzu came out with crooked hair cut. He was scared of scissors so it's alittle hard to go on the face but she already asked for extra. And she kept saying this is the best she could do like if I don't like it just take them to other places. For the price, $65 is already pricier than other places. If it's hard to work on a dog, groomers would take time on difficult spot, and might ask for more I understand that. But she just shaved them all, I could've just do it myself at home. I didn't see that she even tried to "save" them like she said. The previous dog came in with beautiful fluffy fur too but I saw she shaved them all too. Detangle fur is hard that's why we have to leave it to a professional, but charging so much and only shave them all isn't right! Isn't it too easy to open a grooming salon? Definitely not pretty! Quick and sloppy job, so far from what they told me they've been doing this for 30 years. 30 years of shaving? No aesthetic whatsoever. 2 Stars is for the sweet man in front. Went for the first time to take my dog to get a good grooming. I had high hopes since this place was rated so highly. They cleaned my girl up nice and she smelled great, but there was some things that truly bothered me and are the reason I won't be coming back. When I came to pick up my girl, they were aggressively holding her down and trying to shut her up from crying. They made me hold her while they tried to trim her nails. They were not gentle at all and didn't hold back on the aggressive holding of my girl. It was one of the worst experiences I've had with my dog. They get two stars for the grooming, but they definitely need to be more caring with the dogs. They also let my dogs nails looking nasty. Lord knows what else they did while I was gone. read more

I use to take him to Petco and always had problems with them until I found Old Town Pet Growing. Gina is a wonderful person and loves to take care of all dogs with much care. I've been going to Lucky paws and G G grooming for many years but unfortunately they were already booked. Thankfully, this place had availability the same day. They could not tell us the price over the phone. Upon arriving, met the friendly staffs, informed us about the Matting (which I'm aware), and quoted us a price of $57. We agreed. We also informed them that his two front arms are very sensitive/fragile and if they can carefully not hold his arms, he assured us that they are only held by the body. Ok. Great. So then we left and was pretty sure our maltipoo would be in good hands and was excited to see him with the final results. When picking up our little guy, we were informed that he was "difficult" and it required TWO people to do the work for our little maltipoo and had to charge us an EXTRA $10. Really? I was going to tip very well but couldn't believe they charged an extra $10 because 1 pet groomer could not get job done. My little guy is not even a hyperactive dog. He acts like a senior citizen dog. I've never been told he was "difficult" by other groomers. When they told us about charging $10, what was I suppose to say? No? It was so awkward. I understand if he was "difficult" then please i would like to know your experience with him. Then, I would feel the need to tip more, but to tell me they needed to charge me.. that was something else. Will not return, our 13 lbs maltipoo cost $67 w/o tip at the end. read more

After taking my two dogs to other groomers, this grooming place has been the best for my two fury babies, since the first day I brought them here, I've been bringing my two dogs here for over 3 years now n the two owners Harold n Gina are the sweetest people I know, the husband Harold n Wife are always nice n both of them are so loving to my two dogs, I had a pug who always barked n gave a hard time cutting his nails, but they loved his barking n they knew how to take care of him, my pug passed away on 2020 n both owners were so sadden, the wife sent me a condolences card on the mail which was very thoughtful n the comfort n support they gave me was very touching, it shows how much these two owners love their pets n takes care of them like if they were their own, i continue to bring my 12lb Yorkie to them n they do a great job with him every time n when I pick him up he is happy n looks clean n well cut, if I tell her to trim him more in the summer months that are too hot, she does it n charges me the same with no question asked, they always greet my little Gizmo with kisses n hugs n I feel very comfortable knowing that he is in good hands.
