When you walk in this place looks very fun and trendy. Very much serving micro brewery vibes which I like being from Colorado. That said, it was not very warm or welcoming for me. I understand that some people take coffee very seriously but I just want a latte with some sort of flavor. Perhaps Starbucks has altered me forever or maybe I'm basic but the lack of variety available here was very disappointing. They had vanilla, sugar, and lavender. I felt very rushed as we ordered. My mother requested a pour over with heavy cream. Well there is no heavy cream and we were told the reason people get pour overs is to taste the coffee flavor so she might as well get the already brewed coffee with cream since the flavor will be diluted anyway. Call me crazy but it's my money and I will spend it on whatever coffee I want. After being told this twice we went with the brewed coffee and just left. Not somewhere I would return but if you are more of a coffee expert perhaps this will be worth a trip for you. read more

Today i stopped by this location for the first time. It made me sad. I ordered a scone and got a muffin that i cant eat so i gave it away to others at my table. Then my drink which did taste very good took forever to receive. Sadly 7 other drinks were served to people who ordered after me. I like this trend of great coffeeshops opening locations in NW Reno! Now I have an Old World Coffee Lab near work and one near home :-) The drink menu is the same at this new location. I just opted for a cold brew so that's pretty simple but it was delicious! Service was great, I did have to wait for a minute while the solo employee made more elaborate drinks from two people who ordered right before me. One of them ordered espresso, which is served with a sparkling water on the side. He asked why and was given a good answer (and not consescending, like it could have been!) so points for that. They moved the roaster from Midtown to NW so you know those beans are fresh! You can also buy some to make coffee at home. There's lots more seating on a nice patio here than the Midtown location though cars are still kinda an annoying factor - it's on Las Brisas right off of McCarran so it can be loud, depending on the day/time. But indoors is nice and bright and sunny...a different vibe than Midtown and I like Midtown's better but that's just me. Or maybe I need to try it again/at different times. Christmas Eve I was on a mission - to purchase bags of coffee for my wife, who loves Old World Coffee. So I went in the store on Las Brisas and missed the display under the front counter, distracted by the work being done in the back where they were bagging freshly roasted coffee. When I approached the only display I could see at that point, I was approached by a male employee Who instead of being helpful was condescending and dismissive of a disoriented older male, barely even looking at me or engaging with me as I purchased two bags of whole bean coffee from Nicaragua and Guatemala. It disturbed me enough that it still gives me a bad feeling one day later. I will probably never return. (By the way, it was not even busy in the store). read more

Came to old world coffee lab during my lunch break today since I was in the area and wanted to try the newer location. As I walked in, the menu is a paper size display on the counter and the barista asked if I needed some time to look at the menu, I asked her what was popular for the iced drinks and she had some recommendations, including their hazelnut cream cold brew and I love cold brew, so I gave it try. The cold brew is in a 16 oz cup and the drink cost $6.45, and I did tip so almost $8 on one drink, which I thought was a steep for a cold brew and the hazelnut cream is what it is, poured on the top. Their cold brew was pretty mild and the hazelnut overpowered it, which I was disappointed with because I enjoy a bold cold brew and want more of the roast flavor, but that's my personal preference. The other drinks looked good to try but keep in mind, they average between over $6, so if you got the funds, give them shot. Now for the ambience, I could believe how quiet it was for a coffee shop and most of the tables were taken up customers, music was playing and there is also a roasting area which is cool to look at, but the vibe was a little off, just didn't seem very inviting. What a great use of the corner of this little strip mall. It has been empty (or other businesses) for so long. I went in the other day and had a cup of coffee. We sat at the bar so we could use the outlet to charger computers. The ambience was loud and fast paced. It was Nevada Day so I think more people were there. Of course the coffee is very good. I had a nice latte with some unique flavors in it. My friend said the mocha was excellent. The staff all seem friendly and diligent about their job and passion for coffee. I'll be coming back to get some work done for sure! read more

I absolutely love this locally owned coffee shop/roastery! The location is very convenient, just a few minutes from the heart of North West Reno. My favorite part of the shop is the ambiance, always super cozy and inviting with good music. There's something about walking into a coffee shop and hearing the good side of 60's music that makes the morning just that much better. Every time I visit, Maddy greets me by name and remembers my past drink orders (and I switch it up quite often so bravo), making me feel like a truly appreciated customer. Her warmth, smile, and attention to detail truly enhances the experience with each visit. I can't recommend this place enough for their amazing coffee, for both handcraft drinks and take-home beans, and absolutely outstanding customer service. I mean coffee places are supposed to be cozy, This place is far from that; between the metal orange garage shelve along the wall with supplies to the fully opened loud coffee roaster machine that is of course roasting coffee, this place has got to work on having a more welcoming tone. The black and white is fine if your place looks clean and sleek, but the cluttering of supplies, shelves, etc. does not make me want to hang out. I can tell a dude owns this place, because he probably doesn't even think to focus on stuff like that. I tried this place on a whim, and ordered an iced chai. The drink was good but needed some sweetness so I added some sugar at the bar. The interior is designed well and it's a very cohesive space. The cups are cute and match the branding, which I like. My biggest critique is that it's overpriced, but most coffee places are, especially hipster places like this. Would I come back? LOOK NO FURTHER, THIS IS GOOD COFFEE!!!! My recent visit to Old World Coffee Lab was a last-minute decision that left me surprisingly satisfied. and thoroughly impressed. Maddy was solo when my wife and I stopped in for a morning wake-up cup. She kept both of us engaged as she made our drinks and the conversation was warm and endearing for an early morning chat. This kind of customer service interaction is very refreshing and gives me hope for future generations, as I have had very bad experiences with younger employees before. We originally stuck with black coffee, but were convinced to come back for an Orange Latte that did not disappoint. It is evident that expertise and passion for coffee are important to Old World, and we will be back again soon!! read more
