Olde New York has great seating and a nice vibe to it. The service is nice and timely. A few of us went to lunch there and it was pretty good. I personally had the fish and chips that I enjoyed enough. The tilapia they used was good however, it was a tad too crispy (whether too thin of cut or fried a smidge too long). The fries weren't hot by the time I got them. I must include coffee cake dessert (shown) was very good! My friend said his little Italy (sausage) lacked a little flavor. My other friend did highly enjoy his burger. Overall, I'd come back because they have a variety of options and pricing isn't too bad.

We needed a place for lunch in State College where parking was not an issue. It was a pretty low bar. Olde New York passed the test. I didn't realize that the menu was severely German or I would have found another restaurant. However, things turned out better than I expected. There were non-German options, like the fish tacos I chose. My mate's Ruben was also pretty good. The service was good and prices reasonable. The dining room was severely worn from years of happy hour beer drinking by the college crowd. I'd do it again.

This time were dining light because we're heading to the Escape Room next door. I really enjoyed the Weisswurst dinner which was pretty close to authentic. The sausage itself was spot on. When dipping it in the mustard, it brought back some fond memories of Germany. It came with a side of potato pancakes and red cabbage, which where both slightly underwhelming. The pancakes was more like a 7-inch tater tots, but the spices were right. The cabbage was a bit, meh. Overall, this meal was strides beyond my last dinner at this restaurant. Things are starting to look up. I'll certainly give it another try in the future.

Also the worst meal and dinner experience I've had in 20 years. Much of what we tried to order was out of stock, some of those items that were in stock omitted ingredients discovered upon consumption (e.g.,, the case of the missing basil in the $18 caprese salad), and what we did get tasted like the lower end of airline food. We were stuck in a kind of covered porch to eat, rather than the actual picturesque old tavern rooms. A sort of long closet with windows. I will not tell you the tale of the 20 minute mystery of the unopened wine bottle. You wouldn't believe me anyway. It is a beer and whisky kind of place. I traveled 45 minutes to experience this historic tavern restaurant. I do not regret it. I embrace it. Trials build character. My wife and I will reminisce fondly on the awfulness of this experience for decades. I just wish I hadn't spent $225 for the privilege. If I had invested this in the stock market, I would have roughly $870 in current purchasing power in about 20 years. This could have been part of my childrens' inheritance. Lift a tankard of ale in the bar and look at the knick-knacks on the walls. Observe the fireplace, read the tavern's architectural history on the menu. Do not eat. Go without. Fasting is good for you. Think of the children.

Fantastic she is. That said, the table service has been frustrating on multiple visits. Getting a simple refill can take 20-30 minutes, which shouldn't be the case for something that takes less than a minute. It's happened often enough that it feels like a pattern rather than a one-time issue. The main server, is friendly at first, but tends to forget requests--especially refills--and we've had to ask multiple times before getting one. It makes the overall experience feel disorganized and, at times, a bit frustrating. Even if he walks to the table, and we ask, he'll get to another table and then forget my table. Makes NO SENSE. Oh and quick to shut the tab down too and send a bill pronto! Interestingly, service at the bar is noticeably better, which makes the inconsistency stand out even more. At the time writing this review, the entire floor here isn't even that busy. So I don't understand what is so hard to refresh a patron. I really want to like this place because the food and some of the staff are great, but the lack of consistent service makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience. Good service goes a long way in bringing customers back. We've been coming here for almost half a year. I'll be heading somewhere else. Note to other patrons: If you don't get a seat at the bar, good luck getting a drink at the table.

The burger was that good. Because I want to end on a positive, let me start with negatives: the fries were okay. Normally these are a side dish not worth mentioning but this restaurant makes them a star with a fry menu. ( I humbling suggest they try frying in beef tallow to make it a whole other fry experience). The other critical comment is my French onion soup (on take out) was really cold and we weren't late nor (but for the fries) anything else cold. To give you reference, I microwaved for 1 minute and was still cold and did another 1:30. But it was delicious. Now, why 5 stars? The burgers. My son and I both got the Lancaster burger with horseradish mayo on the side and substituting wagyu. It was heaven. It was perfection. We still think and talk about that burger and any food that makes you miss is worth 5 stars!
