They've got you over a barrel when they come out and start throwing parts. This was an install of a drop in kitchen sink and faucet. He told me his hourly rate was 135 bucks. I was expecting to spend about 400 maybe 500. The final bill was 850. I feel I was overcharged on both the parts and labor. He charged me starting 45 min before he got there but still included a "truck charge." The removal and replace of the sink took 2 hours. To me the "clock" starts on the labor at the agreed upon arrival time. When I'm getting charged 439(!) bucks for parts on top of the sink and faucet itself, that extra charge for labor is quite unwelcome. I mean the sink and faucet itself that were "nice" were like 500 bucks. So almost that again just in parts. ‍ His answer in general as I look at these reviews is that he buys his parts from a plumber supply not Home Depot etc. I would have to research each individual part to see if its price point is "fair". A perusal of solid brass fittings and pvc p traps on the Lowe's site shows the price I paid was about doubled. He acted quite insulted that I wouldn't know just how much better his parts were and implied they were all but unavailable at big box stores. literally doubling what I expected to pay was quite a shock to say the least. Project Background I recently purchased an older home, full of charm and distinctive bathrooms. However, I encountered a leak in the master shower that required the p-trap under the shower drain to be replaced before new tile work could be completed. My concern was that reconnecting the new p-trap to the antique cast iron drains in the foundation might cause the cast iron to crumble. Chris F.'s Approach and Solutions Chris came to the rescue, using a camera down the drain to evaluate the situation. He explained the difference between what was probable and what was possible, providing two bids: one for the probable good case and one for the possible problem case. Having used Chris before with excellent results, I trusted his methods, which are always the least intrusive and focused on effective access. In the worst-case scenario, Chris would need to cut and excavate a 2' x 2' hole in the foundation around the shower drain, then tunnel no more than five feet under the foundation from that access point to secure a solid connection to the iron drainpipe. In the best-case scenario, he would only need to excavate a 2' x 2' hole around the shower drain to replace and secure the new p-trap. He also showed me pictures of his past work for reassurance. Successful Outcome Fortunately, the best-case and probable case prevailed. While fixing the p-trap, Chris also discovered an unrelated drain leak under the foundation, which he repaired at no extra charge. I felt I received excellent value for the service provided. Professionalism and Work Quality Chris left the work site clean, as he has always done in the past. He and his co-worker collaborated well, using a small and quiet jackhammer designed specifically for plumbing foundation work. The new drain looks beautiful, and I can confidently proceed with the new tile work, knowing that the unseen part of the shower is sound and affordable. I was looking to replace my entire AC system which is why it's important to find the best in the business and rated the best. It's also important to find more than one 5* business so you can get a better picture and quotes for such an expensive endeavor which I found helpful. If you're going to go all the way with such an expense, it's best to educate yourself as much as possible, and there's lots of YouTube videos on AC repair and replacement which you should watch prior to making that decision. You really need to be an informed and educated customer or you might find yourself with an inferior or wrong system. I found that certain AC companies want the steer you to certain brands they represent, so you may wish to decide on a brand first. I found that the Carrier Infiniti system with its very high seer rating and variable speed was the perfect choice. More details on this system in the photos below. If you live in a two-story house like mine, you can expect the price to be much greater due to the fact that you have dampeners which will need to be fixed or replaced which greatly adds to the bill. As for my AC, it was over 20 years old, but still chugging along. However, I knew there was going to be new mandates in 2025 which would greatly add to the expense of AC replacement such as a new refrigerant which is slightly flammable called Puranovance. I replaced my old R22 compressor with the new R-410a which is still readily available, but will eventually be phased out many years from now. I also mistakenly thought you'd get a good deal by replacing it during the cool months, but apparently a lot of people were doing what I was doing so no break in the price. As a matter fact, the date of manufacture of my new Infiniti compressor was only just a couple weeks old before it was installed. After some back-and-forth on pricing, we finally decided on a date of installation. Carl and his crew showed up and had everything installed within six hours and hauled off the old units. We still needed some troubleshooting in order to dial-in the thermostats functioning properly, but everything works perfectly now and the temperature remains exactly as you set it throughout the house. Both the compressor and the blower motor are incredibly quiet. Since I knew I needed this replacement at some point, I had enough money in the bank to cut a check for the job. When you sign up for Carl's service, you get Carl in the equation. Check out the photos below which show you the equipment, specs and the pricing. Update: After 2 weeks the plenum did separate, but I was able to use foil tape to close up the 8" gap. Personally, I think a 30 day check up would be a good idea not just for Carl, but anyone who gets this kind of installation from whatever company you choose.

They had no luck, and suggested I just move the dryer out to the garage and put in a new duct! Omer arrived with 2 different cameras, and a range of stiff brushes which he worked with his drill, in very tight spaces, and was finally able to dislodge what must have been a 10#, soaking wet mass of lint. With a ton of experience doing this kind of install, Marcus helped out so much that I was pretty much able to handle coordination of the main pieces and personnel without needing to hire anyone else. He did a great job making the vision come alive and was transparent with any problems that arises (and importantly fixing them when necessary). He was friendly, fair with pricing, and also very quick-- framing and installation took only 2 separate, spread out days (to allow for drywalling and parts arrival in between). My personal experience with him in terms of communication was excellent, but I also purposefully avoided peak summer season so as not to catch him at a busy time. Reasonable, Honest, Professional and Courteous Plumber!…read more Over this past weekend on Saturday, Nov 11th, a neighbor alerted me to the fact that water was running down our driveway at a pretty high rate. I had hoped the issue was with sprinkler system, but sadly it was with our water main between the meter and our home. I spent most of Saturday afternoon and all-day Sunday trying to locate the leak in our yard with countless hours of digging. Finally, on Monday early afternoon Roto Rooter came out with specialized Sonar equipment to narrow in on the leak. They helped find a copper pipe (house side) and PVC pipe (yard side) that met under a poured concrete sidewalk to access our backyard. And then provided me an estimate of nearly $4000 to perform the repair, which would take approximately 3 hours. I just couldn't believe the price.... so, I turned them down. I spent the rest of Monday and most of Tuesday was focused on digging under the sidewalk to find the transition point between PVC and copper, which happened to be the point of failure. I also contacted two (2) different plumbers recommended by friends for estimates. One was willing to do the work at hourly rate and a fraction (less than a third) of Rotor Rooter but still pricey for what I knew needed to be done. The other was Dennis with Austin Area Plumbing. I called Dennis on Monday late afternoon, and he spent time with my on the phone hearing about my saga, the work I had done to uncover the leak, expose the pipes and reduce the repair work. He even looked at pictures I texted him to get a sense of the issue. In the end, Dennis said, the more you can do to minimize my work, the more it will save you. He was a man of his word! Dennis put my on his schedule for Wednesday around noon. On Tuesday, Dennis checked in with me on my progress and if I could still use his help, which I did. Finally, on Wednesday, he showed up promptly around noon with txt updates of his heading my way. Upon arrival, Dennis surveyed my preparation and acknowledged that I had done all the "HARD" work in digging and exposing the issue. He proceeded to cut out the damaged pipes, discuss the pros and cons of two options with me, and then proceeded with an agreed to plan-of-attack. We agreed to use PEX with copper-to-PEX fittings on the house side and PVC-to-PEX fittings on the yard side with a slightly bowed 1" PEX tube under the sidewalk to restore the water supply. After a little over an hour he was done, then we just had to wait for glue to cure and then test the repair. Finally, the moment of truth... water turned on and no leaks... Hooray! In the end, Dennis was the best option for us and the more reasonable price. I cannot thank Dennis with Austin Area Plumbing enough. He is a true saint! If you need plumbing work done professionally by an experienced plumber with reasonable rates, look no farther - Call Austin Area Plumbing!
