The owner deserves 5 stars, friendly and welcoming. Me and the girls stopped in after a morning of strawberry picking and needed some last breakfast. I have said this before, but it is still breakfast. Had to make it spectacular, hard to make it sexy, but easy to screw up. This place fires on all cylinders and gets it right. I had the fried chicken which I think had been fried more than once. The breading crumbled into dust and the chicken itself was super dry. There was only one waitress on staff and she was overwhelmed. I don't mind waiting for food, but not when what I get is inedible. I ended up going across the street to get another dinner. This local flavor really picks up the downtown district of Mount Airy. Their staff is very friendly and they have a great facility to work with. The restaurant makes you feels like you traveled back to the good ol' days (to when country cooking was common). Their 'stockyard' is quite amazing, if I do say so myself. They do have great food, but stay clear of their oatmeal, because it is quite tasteless. Overall a quality breakfast/lunch (maybe even dinner) joint. read more

We've seen this place over and over for years and never stopped in, assuming it was just a small town diner type place (which is not usually our thing). Well, that's exactly what it is, and it was rather good both times we were there. Both times, the place has been crowded with seemingly loyal customers, but we were lucky to get a table. Service was very attentive both times, but more efficient than friendly. Omelettes have been pretty good (we had the Italian), but I would appreciate more cheese. French fries were hot, textured, and very good. The onion rings were seeming homemade and also very good. The apple fritters, though, are excellent - each is a whole wedge of apple - fried, topped with powdered sugar, with a taste of smooth vanilla. There have been some turn-offs. On our first visit, the wait was way too long for a simple breakfast. On the second visit, there was an offensive smell coming from the kitchen area - like wet hay, and we were able to switch our table. On both visits, we were sat in the back and the dining area was too cold in that area. We enjoyed our meals enough to go back again in the coming months. read more

Had a very nice lunch here this week with a friend. The cream of crab soup was outstanding -- just the right thickness and just the right touch of Old Bay. The shrimp salad sandwich, while somewhat plain with a tad too much mayo, tasted good and came with a pillow-soft brioche roll. Service was top-notch. read more

This is a great place for a hearty breakfast that will last you all day. Stopped in on a Friday morning at about 8:30 and at first was a little worried because there were only a couple of people in the whole place. Luckily stopping in "early" was the right thing to do because at 9:00 the whole town seemingly descended on the place. Obviously they are doing something right when the place is packed by 9:00 AM. I had three eggs scrambled, home fries, and toast...I wish I lived closer because breakfast was so good I would eat here as much as possible. Everything was super delicious. The eggs were perfect and fluffy, the home fries were about the best I have had anywhere- and they were not packed with onions, which I don't care for because all you taste is onions- even the toast was buttery and prepared just right. The wait staff were a couple of super friendly young ladies who did not make me feel unwelcome just because I was not a local/regular. I would highly recommend this place and will gladly go back just to try the many other interesting things on the menu! read more

Someone needs to explain to the cook that a black and bleu burger means you put bleu cheese on the burger, not Colby. So the cook makes an executive decision to replace ingredients so as to serve food with no flavor at all. Then thinks the patron won't notice. Bottom line, give the customer what they order, not what the cook feels like serving. read more

Once every three months I bring in about 7 dozen breakfast pastries to my team at work as part of a morale boosting event. The past two times I've ordered the assorted pastries from Olde Town. Both times they have been ready on time and presented nicely on trays that make it easy to transport them to the office. More importantly the entire team raves about the taste & quality of the pastries. I would highly recommend their bakery. read more

I went to the Mt. Airy carnival on 06/09/16 and ordered a Crabby Hot dog. They advertised this as a TV favorite from a cooking show. When I received it I advised the girl who gave it to me that I was not happy with the amount of crab dip she had put on it. She just ignored me. I asked again and she ignored me again. Instead of making a fuss about it I just walked away. I feel that if I pay $8.00 for a hotdog it should at least look a little like the picture that they displayed. I would have been happy if I just went to a Sheets or Highs store and purchased the two for one deal for $2.50. Please don't waste your money. W. Washington read more

Convenient downtown Mt Airy location with plenty of free parking at the municipal lot across the street. Home-style comfort food fare. Very good food, the portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. Would highly recommend if you are in the mood for food like mom used to cook (assuming that your mom was a good cook) and don't want to pay exorbitant prices. read more

Awesome place for Breakfast or Lunch. A previous reviewer (a local) gave this place a one star review, I think unfairly. Perhaps there was something personal. I always eat here when I get a chance. I was able to experience what an actual "fluffy" omelet is supposed to be like here. I've never had anything but exceptional service and food here. Great little old school, town diner. Food is awesome! Customer service usually sucks!! Was there recently and every time we ordered something, we got "we don't have that". They didn't have wings, didn't have french onion soup, didn't have hot dogs, and didn't have honey. They forgot something i ordered. When 3 folks came in at 45 mins prior to close the one waitress let out a sigh and said "really!" After going here dozens of times in the last couple years, we wont be back. read more

The food is really good! The usual items on the menu but so much better, like home cooking. The ribs are as good as it says on the menu, falls right off the bone. The rib-eye was juicy and tender. Service is good and the staff is very friendly. The prices are very reasonable. We visit 1-2 times a week for either breakfast or dinner. The surrounding neighborhood is is small town and welcoming. It's pretty good food and it's not too expensive. Everyone is normally pretty friendly, and I would definitely reccomend eating there.
