I haven't been in the Ole Chi Mill in at least 30 years and my memories are of a dark, dingy, smoke-filled bar with unfriendly old -fart customers and lazy staff. In 2020 under new ownership is The Ole Mill Tavern, a more appropriate name for a refreshed new place. The new place is well-lit, clean with no smokey smell and has friendly, attentive staff and a group of regulars from the old place. Now that I'm an old fart it's all good. You can see right into the kitchen which is nice and food comes out pretty fast. The menu has a nice Chicago Tavern selection of meaty sandwiches and fried things, including their vision of a Chicago-style Italian beef. They charge $12.99 for a sandwich that already comes with cheese on a hoagie. Portillo's charges $8.49 for a big beef with sweet or hot peppers, no cheese, on Italian bread with au ju. The Tavern's was more than a French dip, but less than a Italian beef. It lacked Italian seasoning and basic pepper and salt, and a bit overpriced, but I didn't hate it. Got some what I think was homemade giardiniera on the side which was good. Fries were okay for bagged fries and my Coke was flat, not great for a $17 lunch. Pizza and fresh oysters with homemade horseradish seem to be the draw here, so I'll have to come back. I haven't tried fresh oysters in years, so I hope I can buy ONE. Two if I want one plain and the other Rockefeller. I'd like to see them lean into the Chicago theme again with the menu. They used to have Old Style and I'd love a good meatball, Italian sausage sandwich on a loaf of Italian and some made-to-order fries. Also some plate dinners like cod and clam chowder on Friday, chicken and rice on Sunday. and I know folks around here aren't crazy about those of us from Chicagoland, but you can't say we don't know good food! Give them a try and see what you think. read more

The ruben sandwich was pretty delicious but needed much more sauerkraut. The meat was flavorful and plentiful. I would have scored more stars but the service was so slow! We waited over 45 minutes to get our sandwiches! It wasn't even crowded. If they were having kitchen problems, they should have alerted the customers when they tried to place a food order. read more

OMG. if you haven't been there yet, you need to get over there. I was in town for a doctor appointment and was craving a Club sandwich. I love them. So we searched online for places that had them and came across Ole Mill Tavern. It was about 4 miles away from where we were but we figured we would try it. I am so glad we did!! The place was so nice and inviting, everyone there seemed happy. Customers and staff. They had the BEST club sandwich I have ever had anywhere !!! That thing was packed full of meat, and the flavors of the meat were divine. Not like what you get in most places. I had onion rings with mine which were fresh and tasty. My son had fries with his, and they were fresh cut fries, not out of a bag. They tasted sooo good. I'm telling you these people take pride in the food they serve and they cook with love. The server, Bria was amazing. She was so friendly and welcoming. She answered all our questions about the place and asked us to come back when we were back in town. We surely will Bria!!! read more

What a great surprise! Places like this give small towns like Mountain Home a lot of character and let me tell ya, this place is fantastic. I had the patty melt and it was - and I don't say this lightly - one of the best patty melts Ive ever had if not the best. Amazingly, even after 15 or 20 min the bread was still crisp and not soggy. The service was great, down home and friendly and the prices are MORE than fair. My family stopped by here for lunch on our way to Branson, MO for our family vacation and were pleasantly surprised by how good this place was! We had the onion rings as an appetizer which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Then we had the triple decker club, voodoo wings and patty melt which were all amazing. They do not skimp on the meat on the triple decker club and the bread was toasted perfectly, and the cheese on the patty melt was like a cheese sauce that was sooo good. The service was amazing as well and our waitress new exactly when we needed refills on our drinks. We also all noticed how clean they keep the place especially the bathroom. We were on vacation in the area two different times this fall. Found this great place on the first trip. There was no doubt after our first visit, that we would return. We had great service from the staff and the food was delicious both times.We had Rueben and Club sandwiches on both trips. We are seniors and the portions of food are very large. My husband and I ate at Ole Mill Tavern today. What a great place. Our waitress was so kind made sure we were happy and had everything we needed. We both ordered cheeseburgers and fries cooked medium. In a reasonable time our burgers and fries were placed in front of us as we were told to enjoy them. Oh my goodness the burger was cooked perfectly with a medium pink center. It was a juicy piece of heaven. Then there were the fries which I feel certain are hand cut and so good they almost melted in your mouth. To say everything was wonderful is an understatement. Our super kind and attentive waitress was Carla. She was personable and we really appreciated her time and effort. We are from out-of-town but found this establishment on Yelp and thought we'd give it a try. We (party of 7.5) all wanted, and ordered, wings. Unfortunately, when the time wings came to the table, they were bone-in and breaded. My 12 year old grandson has Celiac Disease and cannot eat anything with gluten (flour) or anything that has been fried in oil that has also had food with gluten previously fried in it. Due to his medical condition, none of us eat gluten, and haven't in almost 4 years. When we explained our situation to our server, ABBY, she called the owner and they made arrangements to re-do our wing order without the flour coating. My grandson could not eat the newly prepared wings due to the oil they were fried in, but he was able to enjoy an awesome cauliflower pizza that tasted great. We cannot thank Abby, the Owner, and the Kitchen Staff for making what could have been a disaster for dinner, into a very amazing experience. The best food in town hands down! If your looking for authentic Chicago food this is the only one you'll find anywhere unless u r in Chicago. They drive to Chicago to get all there ingredients to put everything on the menu as if you were eating in Chicago. They serve great mixed drinks and bar food moo burgers are great! There like mini white castle's but homemade so way better. if your looking for something light, which I recommend any soup. Best home style pizza in town, I recommend the supreme the Italian sausage is like no other. If you like big more than you can handle sandwiches you have to pick one of my favorites either the urban or the Italian beef with sautéed peppers & onions smothered with au jus. If your feeling crazy I recommend adding marinara and cheese as well You won't find any food like it unless your watching the food network channel.
