The food is really good. Prices have gone up a lot in the past few years but the quality is really consistent so that's fine. We used to go to the Sunday Brunch, which is amazing, but that was when it was $19.95. It's too much (29.95) now for our senior citizen pocketbooks. It's really good and I miss it. I coordinated a retiree mixer here and I have to say the place, the charcuterie platter, the price, the service was EXCELLENT. The day and weather were perfect. There were 24 of us and our server allowed us to gather outside on the Rondout Creek. The platter was available inside and drinks were very reasonably priced and the wine was a generous pour. She put 'to go' containers' for us to take our leftover bountiful platter which was very much appreciated. I have heard nothing but rave reviews from my fellow retirees. Highly recommend. I went to Sunday brunch at Ole Savannah the day after a wedding in town and I'm told this is the spot to go to for brunch. It's a buffet type which is great to see back, it's like being in the before time. They also had a self-serve mimosa and bloody mary bar (part of the wedding thing) which was very nice. What I like about a buffet is not the volume (it doesn't make sense for me) but rather the ability to try a bite of a number of different things. At ~$25 this buffet makes good sense. I really gave this place THREE tries. Rude servers and subpar food. All 3 times were disappointing to say the least. The last time was this past Sunday, I came for brunch. We were sat and our waiter came over and immediately said "what do you want to drink?" I looked at him confused because I DIDNT KNOW WHAT THEY SERVED. Do they have mimosas? Do they have bottomless mimosas? I said "I dont really know I guess water?" But okay. he walked away and came back with water and said "no menu today it's buffet style you can go up" Okay so I go up, I see a lot of people going up to grab their own mimosas and I was confused if that was included in the buffet price or not. I feel like that's something our waiter could have gave us a LITTLE information on, but he didn't seem to like us very much for whatever reason. Then we got to the food, it was ALRIGHT! Nothing blew my mind but that's okay. The only issue I had was the fact that the eggs Benedict was not cooked enough for consumption. Of course they are supposed to be runny eggs but the yolk was perfectly intact and the whites of the egg were also runny. Pretty sure it's not supposed to be like that. The Fried oyster sliders were absolutely amazing. My wife had BBQ Sliders were not even close to those. Sweet with a touch of heat BUT way too much fat on it. But the killer was NO PAPER TOWELS In the men's room All over the counter and floor and just a big mess. I told the owner he didn't seem to be in a rush to take care of it. I love the location, the parking, the ambience, the drinks, the space between the tables, the hours, and the impeccable service. Can't say enough good things about the service from everyone I've met. Visiting the area in search of lighthouses, we arrived in the later afternoon on a very hot Sunday in July and were enticed by the idea of sitting outside, watching the boats come and go on Rondout Creek. To our pleasure, we were able to sit outside. The outdoor dining area was lovely and clean, with tables spread out for social distancing. Our waitress promptly arrived with iced, cold water and asked for drink orders while we perused the menu. We ordered a Stella draft and a hard cider. We both enjoyed the breeze and watching the boat traffic on the creek while dining. For the appetizer we had the corn fritters with maple syrup butter. Good portion size, crunchy, tasty fritters. My dining partner did not care for them too much, but loved the maple syrup butter and wish there had been more. We also ordered the house made biscuits. These were like little cornbreads and they did not look nor taste homemade to me. My dining partner thought they were fantastic! Main courses: Pulled pork shoulder with coleslaw and baked beans, and blackened catfish with grilled corn salsa and cucumber tomato salad. The pulled pork was moist and tasty,the barbecue sauce was on the sweet side. Excellent. The baked beans were flavorful and rich. The coleslaw was kind of bland, but still o.k., although the servings seemed very small. Both entrees were $19.95 with my side salad being an additional $4.95. The blackened catfish was flaky and tasted fresh, yet it tasted like it had been coated in breadcrumbs. It lacked either lemon or butter as a topping. I did ask for lemon and it was brought immediately. The hot fish was placed upon the huge serving of cucumber and tomato salad--which made the salad warm. The salad itself lacked any flavoring or spices and it did not at all to go well with the catfish. There was some grilled corn atop the catfish, but it was definitely not a salsa of any kind. Service was friendly and prompt and I found sitting outside to be most pleasurable and relaxing. Restrooms were clean and the inside of the restaurant was tastefully decorated. I ordered the kong pao cauliflower and the pretzel app. The cauli was clearly just a pre packed bagged, super over breaded cauli that they deep fried. It was okay. She explained to us that certain special that you find on FACEBOOK are not available everyday however they do have other specials available with the regular menu. We started with the bacon and eggs deviled eggs (had a nice kick to them and very good). I ordered the fried chicken, coleslaw and biscuit with a side order of macaroni and cheese,the macaroni and cheese needed more seasoning however the fried chicken was moist and crispy and the coleslaw had a sweet and crunchy texture. My wife said the chicken and waffles was fantastic especially the spicy honey sauce which goes over the chicken. My daughter said the mushroom risotto with the seared scallops was fantastic. 3 desserts was tried Pecan pie, Lemon meringue pie in a mason jar and the brownie overload sundae and they were all an excellent ending to our meal. I have been here a few times and I cannot deny that the food is good. The latest was for a brunch buffet this past Sunday. They give a really good spread from breakfast items (French Toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc) to lunch items (fried chicken, Mac and cheese, etc). Everything was good. My really big complaint is that given the size, they have way too few wait staff. Our waitress was good, but clearly harried having to take care of approximately 15 to 20 tables AND having to bus the tables. She was so harried, she neglected to tell us about the mimosa and Bloody Mary bar. And this was not an inexpensive meal. My advice is to hire more people! Replacements were not any different. This means a staff member wrapped up these dirty utensils in a napkin, many of them, and never looked at their condition. We saw the waterfront seating and decided to give Ole Savannah a visit. When we arrived it was a little chilly, so we opted to have a seat at the bar. The Rondout Valley is gorgeous and features a trolley and maritime museums. Very cool area! The bartender arrived quickly and we ordered a couple of craft beers which were excellent. I ordered the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp and my partner selected the Brisket Sandwich. The food arrived in a timely fashion. New Orleans BBQ Shrimp with Grilled Baguette: This is probably my favorite dish in the world and the high-water mark is Mr. B's in New Orleans. Ole Savanah really nailed this dish! The shrimp was tender and the sauce carried me right back to New Orleans. Seriously divine! The issue is that they don't give you that much bread and when I asked for more it never arrived. Wasting that delicious sauce felt criminal which is part of the reason I sadly can't give them 5 stars. Brisket Sandwich: This was also fantastic and the brisket was cooked perfectly and super tender. The bread was also delicious. Unfortunately the sides were a bit weak. The cole slaw tasted unseasoned and was almost just like sliced cabbage. It needed more vinegar, and perhaps some caraway seed and celery salt to give it some zip. The french fries were also disappointing. The fries on the very top of the basket were okay length, but rest were like half an inch long or smaller - more like french fry nubs. They were also a bit rubbery. Blanching the fries before frying is a great technique to prevent this, but does add additional time to the preparation. I'm surprised, because the main dishes were so excellent, I thought the sides would be in the same league. Service: The bartender Jon was attentive at first, but only came by once. I asked for more bread that never arrived, and my empty beer sat for a long time. I wanted another one, but too much time had passed. I believe he was working the high-top tables surrounding the bar as well, so maybe this is not entirely his fault, but he was not at the bar for over 10 minutes at a time. I will certainly be back to Ole Savannah. I want to try other menu items and sit outside on the Rondout Creek next time. Even with the minor misses on the sides and service, BBQ Shrimp of this quality is something really hard to find outside of New Orleans. Just be sure to order extra bread up front. read more
