It was prepared with such heart that it would literally make my grandmother cry. ​Scallops: Perfectly cooked and served alongside a purple potato puree that was as visually stunning as it was tasty. ​Herb Butter Steak: A beautifully seasoned cut of meat that proved sometimes the classics, when done right, are unbeatable. ​The Grand Finale ​While everything was elite, the Pear and Raisin Bread Pudding was the undisputed star of the show. We found this restaurant by searching google for a highly rated restaurant near where we were staying in Hyde Park. We booked dinner for my daughter's birthday and chose a Sunday specifically so we could try the fried chicken which is only served on Sundays. The restaurant is located in a house in a mostly residential area, with a large parking lot across the street. We had a reservation and were greeted and seated immediately in one of the booths with glass dividers on 3 sides - it felt almost like being inside a terrarium. The overall atmosphere is warm and cozy - leaning towards a modernized Victorian feel with lots of dark wood and dark furnishings. This would be a nice place to take a date if you're looking for an intimate atmosphere. Our party all ordered the fried chicken - which, really, we could have split one and just added some appetizers to feed all three of us. There is easily half a chicken on each plate. The chicken was super crispy, not greasy at all and still moist inside, truly excellent! Sadly the sides of mashed potatoes and coleslaw were just average at best. The mashed potatoes in particular were disappointingly tasteless and slightly lumpy which cost the dish a star in our ratings. We opted just to share an apple tarte tatin for dessert and the staff dressed it up with a birthday candle for us. My wife and I found this place by searching google best restaurants in Rhinebeck. Even though it's in Staatsburg google wasn't wrong. We started with the crispy artichoke hearts. There's four of them and they were delicious. My wife had the diver scallops and I had the sirloin. She said the scallops were great and I didn't get any as there is only 4 but she said her meal definitely filled her. My steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and was delicious. We each had 2 craft cocktails that were great and we finished with the cheesecake. Food wise the only minor negative was my baked potato was a tad cold. Otherwise the service was on point and the atmosphere is low key, and our table was very private. We will both definitely recommend and return here. read more

After driving up from NYC and settling into our B&B, we asked our host for a dinner rec--and wow, did she deliver. She pointed us to a cozy tavern nearby, and little did she know, it would turn out to be one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. Food: 5/5 Let's talk about weighty steaks over 8oz. It's hard these days to find a cut that's generous, well-cooked, and comes with thoughtful sides--and this place nailed it. I was floored. We started with crispy Brussels sprouts and calamari (both fantastic), and then each ordered our own entrées. I went for the steak--thick, juicy, seasoned perfectly, and honestly worth the trip on its own. Others in our group had the braised short rib and a surprise standout: the paella. Everything was seasoned well, plated beautifully, and arrived hot and fresh. Only downside? They were out of the half-lemon drink I had wanted--but honestly, it was the smallest blip on an otherwise amazing dinner. Service: 5/5 I was worried at first--larger, busier restaurants sometimes mean scattered service. But everyone here was kind, attentive, and professional. From start to finish, the staff made us feel welcome without rushing us. When my salmon was accidentally left off my grain bowl, our server noticed before I did and came over to let me know it was already being fixed. That level of attentiveness is rare, and I really appreciated it. Heads up--this isn't a quick in-and-out kind of place. Think: multiple courses, great conversation, lingering over dessert. We just got home from our first time eating at this GEM!! Everything was spot on. Braised short rib and pork schnitzel were our entrees. Both off the chart , as well as our salads. The carrot cake was the best I ever had. Cocktails were perfect. The staff is very attentive, food brought out in timely manner. And the owner is hands on, pleasant and appreciative of your support. Fantastic experience last night at River and Post. Gorgeous decor and cool vibe, delicious food, warm hospitality. It's been a long time since we found no fault with a restaurant! I ordered the paella and often with paella some of the seafood is overcooked. Not here - each item perfectly cooked. My husband ordered the filet mignon - also often not cooked to order, but here it was a perfect medium rare. All appetizers and sides were delicious, as was dessert. We loved the privacy of the booths and the romantic atmosphere. The owner made us feel like old friends. We're already planning a next visit. Highly recommend! read more

We tried this place for the first time last night and the experience was underwhelming. The food was not bad, but it also wasn't great, and service was lacking and scattered. Though our waiter was friendly, we saw him exactly 3 times during our meal, when he first took our order, when he cleared our appetizer plates, and at the end when I requested the check and he dropped off the tablet and said thanks and walked away. We were greeted warmly upon entry and given our choice of three different seating areas and asked our preference for water. Our waiter came by shortly after and we ordered a cocktail, an appetizer and our entrees. My cocktail came out very quickly, and the appetizer followed about 15 minutes later. The waiter did not check on us during the appetizer. We sat there with empty plates for a bit and my empty cocktail glass sat on the table for at least 10 to 15 minutes, which isn't a terrible amount of time, but I wanted another one. Our waiter came by to clear the appetizer plates and I asked him for another cocktail before he noticed my empty glass. Cocktails came out very quickly and were well-made, the Wasps Kiss was absolutely delicious, as was The Snow Bird. The Ahi tuna appetizer was tasty, well seasoned, and well prepared. The entrées came and my husband's short rib was hearty and well plated, but my swordfish was disappointing. When the staff member brought out our entrées, she tilted my plate towards me, dripping juice onto the table in front of me for which she apologized, but did not wipe. The mash with the short rib was very creamy, the short rib itself was very tender and falling apart, but my husband felt it needed more salt but was saved by the gravy. My swordfish entrée was fine, however, it lacked salt and any discernible seasoning. My rice was cold, the pineapple salsa on top of the fish was ok, and had the waiter come by I would've asked for salt, but he didn't. The meal was filling, but not necessarily satisfying. Another staff member cleared our plates and asked if we wanted dessert, but I requested the check. The waiter came by and dropped off the kiosk, said thanks, and walked away. For $140 I expected a better meal and service. We ended up going somewhere else for another drink and an appetizer. The whole experience felt kind of perfunctory. Service was scattered and inattentive and so was the food. The restaurant was packed by the time we left, but this was our first and last visit. read more

My wife and I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Food was very good, as was our waitress, but the owner, Sergio, who was also the host, was extremely rude and inappropriate - all because we requested to be seated in a booth rather than the back of house small table next to the restrooms he first put us at. Very reluctantly he let us sit in a booth (there were several other empty booths and some with two people, some with four people). He then went to every table but ours asking how everything was, but skirted by our table with a glare - several times. When I called him over to point out my dinner plate was badly chipped and cracked, he huffed and didn't even offer a token apology. Was it because we were two women? Seemed odd in this day and age in upstate New York. But one never knows. Was it that he was so put off by our rejecting the small back table? Even our waitress appeared puzzled by his behavior. This ruined our evening and we wil not be returning. We could not recommend this restaurant to any of our women friends. read more

Oh my gosh! The food- the atmosphere-the young owner whose family already has few restaurants and knows the business!- is a delight! My family eats out a few times a week and this is my personal favorite! The Paella is so incredible- it will have you coming back - the house wine is OK! The wait staff tries to keep up but all the families keep them busy and talking! Very neighborhood!Totally delicious! They have a parking lot across the street and there is street parking! We had issues with the pacing, service, food and - especially - the way the owner handled us expressing our frustration at the lack of attention we were given when dining in his restaurant. Since our dinners hadn't arrived after us waiting for over an hour, I went to the bar and asked for the manager/owner who I proceeded to let know that we still hadn't been served our entrees, no one had come by to refill our water glasses and our fried artichoke appetizer wasn't right (2 small canned fried artichokes). 3 of our 4 meals arrived almost immediately after I spoke with him. Unfortunately, the 4th meal didn't arrive until 10 minutes after the first 3 were served so the other three meals got cold while we waited. Moreover, when the food did arrive, the polenta under the osso buco wasn't cooked and literally was the same consistency as the sauce. However, the most disturbing part of our experience was the behavior of the owner. He never came over to our table to talk to us while we were dining to apologize and try to make things right. That would have really made a huge difference and it would have made us feel that our concerns had been heard and he cared about what had happened to us. Most alarmingly, he followed us out of the restaurant after he said good night to us as we passed by the host's station and I said: "I will leave a review." Again, he did not apologize. Instead he aggressively confronted us about why I would be leaving a review and if it was going to be negative. I explained we were traveling and decided to eat at his restaurant based on the online reviews we read. We felt it was important to write our own review to let other travelers like us know about our experience to better help them decide if they would like to eat at the restaurant. I won't go into specific details, but suffice it to say it was a very bizarre and awkward conversation. P.S. My daughter recorded 2 and a half minutes of the conversation between the owner and us after he followed us outside and confronted us. It is surreal. Im glad she thought to record it because it captured the inappropriateness of the interaction. read more

The calamari was so tender you can tell the chefs are skilled, and our entrees were delicious!! The welcoming hostess, Bronte, greeted us warmly, and led us to the bar area, where we generally like to dine. Matt, the bartender, was gracious and friendly. Our specialty cocktails were on point and our appetizers, and entrees were all prepared perfectly. I wanted to love this place because the location is charming and the interior atmosphere is the perfect mix of quirky and cozy. The service was attentive too. Hence the three stars. Unfortunately, there is no getting around the food. We ordered exclusively from the left side of the menu. The guac was an odd color of green and over puréed with an unfortunate overtone of cucumber. The salsa was so runny it wouldn't stay on the chip. Brussels we're not trimmed correctly and underdone. The rosemary Parmesan fries were fine as was the clam chowder. After a long day of traveling, I came across this cozy gem in Staatsburg with an old tavern vibe. It was a nice surprise to find in these neck of the woods and exactly what I needed at that point. When I walked in, the place was packed and everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. The salmon dish is mine what is very get some carrots. All the parsnip purée was very delicious. My friend had the short rib with a purée as well, and it was very palate friendly for me who does not like beef it was very soft. It was not too salty. I would order it next time. The bartender is very friendly and conversational. I thought he looks like a scientist, making all the nice drinks behind the counter. Great atmosphere lots of smiling faces and clean plates. If I could give 10 stars I would. Celebrating a birthday (8 of us) - everyone loved both the food, which was inventive, fresh, and cooked perfectly - and also the service which was impeccable. The owner himself came around a few times and chatted with us, explaining the different artwork on the walls and just being so kind and personable and friendly. Given the fact the restaurant was extremely busy on a Saturday nights, he treated us all like we were his only customers. Lovely, romantic space. Perfect lighting, music and subtle candle scents. Food was truly excellent - we shared the short rib, chicken, wedge and side of turmeric carrots. Service was professional, if uneven (one of our servers tried hard and was polite but was clearly inexperienced). You'd have to be a veteran restaurant owner to open a new joint during the 2021 pandemic, and Patricia Panarella and her son Sergia Rebraca have indeed not surprised anyone in their grand ability to do just that. Bravo!! And to boot, this culinary hideaway is NOT in Rhinebeck. it is in Staatsburg, a few miles to the south....and with plenty of parking...how great is that?? Patricia transformed the space previously occupied by the Italian dive, Portofino, into a beautifully decorated and romantic interior, featuring private booths and tables separated by floor to ceiling wooden window panes. Of course, there's outdoor seating too, but it was Saturday night out with my wife. Where's al-fresco romance without the sea, I ask? Anyway, the menu is simple and welcoming. I noticed signature cocktails on the bar, a mix of fine wine....and Del Maguey mezcal for my own particular taste. And the food; the Buttermilk Fried Chicken is not to be outdone anywhere and the Grain & Greens Bowl (in my attempt to eat healthy) was so good I'd actually order it again, though the Rib Eye Steaks passing our table will certainly be a future temptation. Congrats Sergia and Patricia, you have both outdone yourselves, again.
