After hiking in Minnewaska, we stopped into this old, basic, no frills neighborhood pub for some lunch. Friendly service and the usual things offered at a bar at the usual quality: appetizers, burgers and sandwiches, salads, etc. at reasonable prices. The burger and vegetable quesadilla both hit the spot. There appeared to be a bunch of regulars coming in and sitting at the bar. On that same street are a bunch of other restaurants and shops to explore. Street parking that's paid at regular times. read more

My 8th review of this venerable pub since 2019, and 5th five-star rating (the others being solid "4"s). The atmosphere is definitely college bar, with a sprinkling of older locals and a smattering of tourists. In other words, a bit of everything, which is much like their menu. Their burgers are consistently superb, as is their broiled salmon, eggplant fries, and even their eggplant parm (yes, truly), among many other things. But today, it was wing day. Stopped in w best friend, Pots & Pans, AKA Stumbleweed. We split a dozen, half garlic parmesan, half teriyaki. Meaty and juicy (to the point that P&P "sauced up" his shirt). One of the more reasonable places in New Paltz, which overall skews a bit far towards the hoity-toity crowd. Here at P&G's you'll find a decent bar menu (some on tap, some in bottles, some other drinks), decent layout (our seats were around a couple of corners, the bar kinda bisects the whole place), and decent service (we were a bit under-noticed, but that was corrected promptly once fixed). I suppose that this place is geared toward SUNY more than downtown, and that's honestly not a bad thing. Well, we went for the food, and I'd say a bit more than just decent. I really liked the clam chowder. It's not authentic New England style, but it's sweeter and thicker - I actually liked it more! The bread I dipped was quite good, everyone else enjoyed their food, and I think I got to try a couple of fries and those hit the spot as well. Verdict: New Paltz isn't a town I'd return to in general, but you could do far worse than P&G's while there. In fact, I'm not sure you could do better. Come one, come all. read more

Wish I can leave no stars. Ok. Came here to eat on June 11th at 1400. Floor manger "Kristine" was our server. We were seated all the way in the back by ourselves. I have a TBI/PTSD service dog. (Papers) Now we were seated all by ourselves in the back. Kristine comes over already with an attitude and slams our waters down and states my dog has to go under the table. My dog is 90lbs. She not going under a small table. And she was not impeding traffic or causing any safety issues. I served this country for over 23 years I've been there done that. Now to walk into a place with your partner smiling just moving here and walked into that makes the deployment anger come As a Veteran I ask other VETS to walk away from this place. I had never been to this iconic New Paltz restaurant, even though I have visited New Paltz for many years. This visit, I visited twice. What a fun atmosphere for a neighborhood pub! The wait staff were engaging and sassy. Many locals clearly were regulars. The first time I visited, I got a pastrami Reuben - spectacular. The second visit, I shared several dishes - the roasted Brussels sprouts (bland), the chicken ginger stir fry (again, bland), Caesar salad (excellent dressing). Portions were very generous and prices were in the range of the area. My only recommendation is to liven up the two dishes I mentioned were bland. I will definitely return! read more

I've eaten here before with my late partner., and we have always have had a good experience. Today, I was having lunch with a dear friend of hers, who I also knew.. Everybody was very nice. It has the atmosphere of an old fashioned pub, and yes, the place can definitely get loud, but we were still able to have a wonderful visit, we stayed for quite a while, just catching up, and nobody tried to hurry us on or anything. It was at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon, so it was busy, but it wasn't packed. Everybody who works here is wonderful! I saw that they still have on the menu, what I had the last time I was here. The "Mack Truck Burger Melt." An 8 ounce charbroiled Angus burger, with their delicious Mac and cheese on top, all inside of a grilled cheese sandwich. Yes, it's a "gutbomb", but I say that 1000% in a positive way. Oh my God, it was big, it was rich, and I loved it! This time, I'm trying to eat, lighter, and they had a corned beef sandwich on rye bread,, on their menu. It normally comes with potato salad, but I asked if I could have it with coleslaw instead. Normally they don't substitute items on the "specials" menu, but they were willing to do it for me. It was a bit "soupy". I had to eat it with a spoon, but I liked it that way. I know everybody's different. The Sauce/dressing was delicious, and the cabbage was still nice and crunchy. The sandwich was very good, the bread was good quality, and they were very generous with the corned beef. there was no mayo or dressing or anything like that on the sandwich, but you can always put whatever you want on separately. It was just a great sandwich. My friend also had the corned beef sandwich, only half of one, and she also had the butternut squash, soup and macaroni salad , which she said that she liked. She was the one who very first recommended this place to us. I didn't take any pictures, because I thought it would be a bit rude, while we were having such a special visit. Two because I still love the food and service but they still blast the music so loud you have to scream along with everyone else to hear each other or just forget trying and eat your meal without talking. Makes no sense during the day when the place always goes to party central at night. But I guess if that's what the heavy drinkers like they pull rank because they spend the most on booze read more

I ordered a wedge salad to start and chicken Marsala with sautéed spinach. The wedge salad was HUGE and so flavorful! The chicken was absolutely incredible. So fresh, hot and the flavor was spot on. The sautéed spinach was clearly made fresh. It was so good with the right amount of garlic. The wait staff was super friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself is welcoming with various tables, booths and a bar when you walk in. The decorations are a bit dated but fun nonetheless. Overall a great experience. read more

Rustic and lively place for sure, but it loud here. Cake here for dinner, the service I will say was alright, nothing note worthy, probably more interested from getting tips from the bar flies. The fresh baked bread was really get surprised over other places, bread sticks or biscuits. Plus points for being those bricky butter pats under the warm bread for easier spreading. With the food, they give so much onion straws it's like do you want steak with your onion straws then do you want onions straws with your steak. The flat iron steak hidden underneath was very good, cooked to medium, juicy and tender. My tumble weed of onion straws were great, crispy and unlike many others not oily. Penne in garlic and butter was great, pasta was al Dante and it wasn't drowned in garlic flavor, don't need heartburn considering the onion straws managed that very properly in their own. Hah. This. At has been here forever. Ok it seems like it's been here forever. The ambiance is college town pizzeria. Wait staff is friendly and the food is good. We're talking something above the standard bar food. Some of the best wings I've ever eaten were from here (just tell them well done- then they're really crispy). When the instant mashed potatoes is the highlight of the dish, we've got problems. I liked them because they reminded me of public school. They have ants on the windowsill of the atrium. Burger rolls are stale. Red onion was old; needs to be 86ed or cut a new one. And there was no way the pulled pork sandwich was fresh. Even if it was frozen, it wasn't reheated in a way that makes it palatable. Our waitress was a pleasure. Quick service, bussed her own table. She was friendly and apologetic. I can not remember ever sending a meal back. In all my years waiting tables, I never had a manager refuse to comp a meal when the kitchen messed up. This place used to be a community staple. Now their fighting for customers as they straighten things out with their liquor license. Maybe you need to be drunk to enjoy this food. The wings were good. But those were frozen also. Came to P&G after a short post hike adventure while on a day trip. Despite it being a Saturday afternoon, this place wasn't incredibly packed with people. There were other clients, but there was no wait for my large party. Got the P&G burger because it has mushrooms. Generous portion sizes but not super impressed by the mushrooms on the burger. They were canned and super liquidy, so it soaked through the bun really fast. The fries were solid. Crispy exterior with enough of a soft interior, very well seasoned and not overly salted. Staff was a little scattered but we got our food and the prices were incredible. Overall a positive visit. read more

I ordered eggplant parmesan, one of the few vegetarian choices on the menu. The server brought it to our table with a serrated steak knife. I was astonished to discover that I could not cut the eggplant with the steak knife because it was thick and rubbery. It was the worst entree that I've ever had at a restaurant. I came here for New Years with my fiancée and friends. After being inside for just a few minutes, a man walked directly into us and immediately got aggressive and shoved me across the room. I turned and looked for security and made eye contact with a short woman in a ski mask and saw "security" on her jacket. After a few seconds, I saw she wasn't moving a muscle so I turned back around to see the man shove my fiancée then slither away into the crowd. We basically paid $20 to get assaulted and security did nothing. What a way to start the new year. I'd stick to any other place New Paltz if I were you. First time in New Paltz and I was looking for a place to eat and P&G's caught my eye. To commence, I ordered medium wings as an appetizer and they were quite good. The wings were crispy, juicy, and had a nice spice to them. After this, I scanned the menu and the Mack Truck Burger Melt stuck out to me. To put into words, the Mack Truck is a burger topped with macaroni cheese inside a grilled cheese sandwich. Considering this, the burger was absolutely delicious. It was juicy, flavorful, and all the cheeses came together to form a magical taste. My only complaint is that the toast was a bit soggy and greasy. In addition to this, the burger came with waffle fries which were worthy. The fries were seasoned and crispy with nice sapidity. When it's all said and done, P&G's is a good restaurant with a one of a kind item in the Mack Truck Burger Melt. read more

As far as a local pub/bar setting, this place was a total win! Haven't stepped foot in the door in over 10 years and they have definitely cleaned and classed it up a bit. Went with family in tow so it was definitely family friendly on the Tuesday night we were there. Good crowd but we were seated immediately. Waitress brought a kids menu with crayons for our son as we sat down. We ordered Chicken Fingers for the boy and wings and artichoke spinach dip for apps. His fingers were piping hot, and perfect and served with fries. The wings had a crispy skin and juicy inside with a good amount of heat without taking away from flavor. The star app was the spinach/artichoke dip served with toasted pita. There were copious amounts of artichoke chunks and the dip was scalding hot, plentiful and seasoned perfectly. Tip: let it cool down a bit or spend the next 24 hours peeling the skin from the roof of your mouth. We ordered a chopped salad for her and a Reuben for me but honestly, we filled up on apps so we took most of our dinner home. No complaints yes on either entree though. Fair amount of domestic beer on tap and super attentive waitresses. Nice home town feel for a place in the middle of a college town. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch on our way to Albany. We started with the fried brussel sprouts, I was expecting them to be fried but they weren't.. just crunchy. Still good though. Chicken fingers and fries were good. We had our baby with us, and she needed a diaper change. They didn't have a changing table!! I had to go across the street to Starbucks to be able to change her so that was frustrating. Our server was nice, even got us a cup of hot water for the baby's bottle. First time visiting P&Gs since the new renovations! They expanded the bar area and re-did the bathrooms (thank goodness!!) The place was packed, typical for a Saturday night with a 50 minute wait for two. My friend and I waited by the bar for about 20 minutes and were seated! It was extremely loud, as the DJ was playing music already and people were standing/talking/dancing in every possible crevice. This was expected so we didn't mind! My friend and I ordered hot wings, potato skins and the vegetable quesadillas. It all came out within 10 minutes. All three appetizers came with plenty. The wings were not very hot, which I personally liked and the potato skins were really tasty. I wouldn't recommend the vegetable quesadillas. They only had roasted red peppers, spinach and cheese inside and I needed more; sautéed onions would be a great addition. I'm ALWAYS surprised by the amount of families eating in the midst of chaos that P&Gs accumulates on Fridays & Saturdays! I guess its a preference, but just know that it won't be a quiet or calm atmosphere. Since I live so close & I enjoy the college life atmosphere of P&Gs, I'll be back! read more

My husband and I came here, because we had two people tell us that this place was great, so we gave it a shot. For us, it wasn't that good. It was horrible, just not what we thought.
