The mixture of scents did get overwhelming a few times and I had to step out of the store in order to fully smell the ones I was sampling. Olfactory is a clean boutique where you can custom design your own fragrance. My experience here was nothing short of exceptional. I had a hard time choosing how to make my fragrance because there were so many good options. But that's a good problem to have. I tried about 10 fragrances and I ended up using Jaden as my base. After that, one of the staff helped me custom design from there based on asking me a few questions and her intuition, which was very impressive. After that process you get to choose a name for your fragrance and they use and old fashioned label maker (not a printable one), which I thought was a cool additional. Its always so difficult to find the right scent - so coming here i had high expectations as ive seen lots of people come here for the experience. the OVERALL experience was just picking 1) base then 2) picking which (existing) combo smell - when i mean already existing smell combos - i mean like when you choose your base , there is already a set number of already mixed scents for you to try to figure out which one you like 2) custom label and 9 character name ------ prob the most custom feel about the experience in my opinion lol Coming in i thought it was like you could choose every little scent LIKE FOR EXAMPLE: ill add a hint of lavender, + hint of vanila + some musk ) but it was literally like two steps lol... Dont get me wrong - it was a fun experience smelling out the different bases + combos but like i thought it was going to be more of a unique process...cause now i know theres probably 500 more people walking around smelling the same .. --- there are only so many combos you could try that they give you lol our representative was very accommodating and helped adjust the smell combos if we were looking for something specific (ex: my friend wanted a warm vanila so she pivoted smell combos that reflect it more) I would recommend coming and trying it out for yourself, it was fun, i just expected more of a CUSTOM experience as people tend to market it as read more

It would be a fantastic activity for any female bonding event, say a bachelorette party, Mother's Day, or a random afternoon in the city with your favorite ladies. Choose 1 or 2 bases that appeal to you, & a knowledgeable, patient staff member will help you pinpoint undertones you like & add essential oils based on your preferences. Name your signature scent, choose your label color, & pay $75 for 50mil. Such fun! Though I recommend Olfactory, let me set the expectation for the finished product -- its staying power is unfortunately no better than my trusty, cheap, been-using-since-high-school $10 body sprays. The variation of Hunter I purchased has a sweet & slightly spicy scent that dissipates after a couple hours' wear; unacceptable for the price point, hence my moderate overall rating. read more

BF and I decided to try out Olfactory NYC as a cute fun date experience. They accept walk-ins but we did have to wait a couple of minutes so I would recommend booking a reservation. You start off by choosing a base scent which contains 3 base notes. The staff then will customize the scent based on your vision and scent preferences and create a few different samples that you'll narrow down to a few favorites. Luc was amazing and helped guide us through the whole process and was able to customize the ratios of our custom fragrance. We got to choose a name and packaging for our scent. Your customized fragrance can also be saved in their database so you can easily repurchase when you run out. I really enjoyed our experience and highly recommend trying it out. read more
