Yesterday, my wife and I were in the area looking for some local goodies as Christmas presents and made our way into Hip & Humble. The outside is very inviting-I love the color of the house-turned-retail building. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by Mabe, the beautiful resident dog. She happily sniffed us, let us pet her and then she went back to her duties of wandering the store. Any place that has a dog is A-OK in my book! Each item in the shop appears to have been carefully curated to be here. Nothing seems out of place or odd. I love every item and how cohesive everything feels. Up front, you'll find an assortment of knick-knacks, home goods, soaps & lotions, etc. Toward the back is a room full of unique women's clothing and accessories. The owner visited with us briefly and we felt very welcome to be there. It's a fun atmosphere with adorable items. I look forward to returning for additional gift items in the future.

Perhaps the cashier said that when I bought it? Doubtful given he struggled with the cash register and could only sent a text receipt. The return attempt was an unfriendly customer experience - especially at Christmas time. Shame on me for not pressing for clarification at point of sale - shame on them for having a lame return policy. Won't be back and will warn all I can to do the same. Caveat emptor!!!

From the looks of it, it's a gift shop/boutique that specializes in jewelry. I saw a couple people doing permanent jewelry, which is something I've been curious about and might have been swayed to purchase. However, nobody acknowledged me or my wife as we browsed the shop, so we left. For a small business like this, customer service is so important and even a little greeting goes a long way. They have some cute things that are displayed nicely, but unless you know just what you want and don't care for interaction, this place might not be for you.

There are always awesome deals going on, and while I didn't plan on maybe actually getting anything the last time I went in, I walked out with some really good finds. Tanks were buy one get TWO free (yeah, you heard me right; totally not a typo). The staff greeted me in a really friendly manner when I came in and were extremely helpful--maybe too helpful!!--with pointing out all of the mermaid things they'd just gotten in. There's a whole table in the middle of the store that is filled with all things mermaid and unicorn. One of the girls even found a mermaid crown and hair jewelry (not really sure what else to call it?) that were really amazing. Currently rocking the red hair, I can totally pull off the Ariel look with the right makeup. One of the cute girls working in the store (I really wish I knew her name, because she was an amazing sales person!) went around the with me, making it so much easier to find everything. If there's one complaint I have about Hot Topic, it's that you really have to sift through everything to find something, especially the shirts along the walls on racks. She wasn't pushy, and I felt like I was shopping with one of my best friends. Even when it came time to the ring out and I was pre-approved for a Hot Topic credit card, she handled it perfectly without pushing it on me. Super awesome experience, and she was incredibly sweet even though we'd come in not too long before the store was closing. As I was checking out she even told me it was fun hanging out with me.
