Get it to go or take a pass. We ate here in the spring and it was ridiculously hot inside. We ate here tonight in the winter, and it was so cold we had to leave our coats on and eventually went out to the car to get a stadium blanket to lay over our legs. Half of the wait staff was wearing coats - they obviously know they have a problem. The food is decent, our servers have been very attentive, and the building has a cool atmosphere. First, it should be "Oli's Kitchen", not "Olie's Kitchen." For those that are doing a map search, this was one point of problem for us while staying in Marble Falls. The other problem was that Google Maps on our Samsung Galaxy tried to take us down a side road (Rattlesnake Rd, I kid you not...) which should have been labeled "4 WHEEL DRIVE ONLY - EMERGENCY FLARE GUN RECOMMENDED" on it, rather than straight down 281 as it should. Not sure on the why, but if you head South out of Marble Falls its on the right side of 281 with the Shell Gas Station. Now, on to the review. Once we found it, we were greated by Richard who seated us in a booth and took our drink order. I mention "Richard", because if you eat here you will get to know the staffing. They introduce themselves and want to get to know you as customers as well. A family run business it appears from our two visits - and the service should be anticipated at 'dining' pace if you are hitting them at dinner rush hour with all tables filled. Very friendly service and customer oriented. But is the dining worth it? You betcha!!! All of the food is made from scratch, with nary a frozen dinner item over the course of about 7 different meals ordered (2 visits, 7 people). Oli (believe its short for Olivia) is a Master Mexican Chef - and its very evident in both presentation and flavor. Highlights below. Chips & Salsa - You have to order these as they are not complimentary. You learn why when they bring the salsa out - which you can order varying degrees of heat index. Its all made fresh daily! Warm out of the pot, and quite addictive in our two trips we've had here. We hear that she grill's the Roma tomatoes before processing, and I can tell you its one of the most 'unique' salsa's I've ever experienced in a restaurant. Definitely worth the order and not to be missed - all parties enjoyed it immensely. Guacomole - Fresh, chunky and well balanced. They don't make it table side, but there is no question its being made fresh here with great flavor. Both this and the salsa on both occasions were 'completed' in entirety. Tamales - Ordered on two occasions and they are homemade, with the husks still present. While I didn't have them personally, my father, a self proclaimed tamale junky claims they are some of the best (maybe the best, after the meal) he's ever had. Enchiladas (beef) - According to my father, not out of a box, freshly prepared and quite good. Vegetable Chimichanga - My wife ordered this, and split it with me as we do that sort of thing, with a special order to contain no cheese, or dairy. Not greasy, but crisp flour tortilla filled with a medley of veggies including onion, peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, and some others I may be forgetting. Veggies were still 'crisp', not soggy, and it was quite good. We had to substitute the cheese sauce and went with their green sauce for topper. A very tangy (tomatillo/lime/other) sauce that really was tasty. We ended up pouring what was left over some of the rice to finish it off. Did I mention the rice? Amazing flavor with cumin and other spices - a very tasty side... Sauteed Shrimp & Fish - a new menu item and thought the fish was some of the best we've had this past year, even at our time at the coast over the winter. Shrimp were very good as well - both with a grilled character and spiced very well. I also had the green sauce with these, and they provide a big serviing of rice with the meal as well. We also had a fish taco, shrimp fajitas, and taco salad as well and the characteristics above can be applied here as well on these. Presentation of the meals is first rate - the rice is presented as a scoop or shape of an upside down bowl as it was with my shrimp & fish, with a sprig of rosemary on top for garnish. The food is 'pretty' when it comes out - which while not a requirement for me to enjoy it, is a refreshing change from typical tex-mex fare - at a price that matches the ordinary. One note - they don't have a hard liquor license, so no margaritas unfortunately for us. Texas is just too spendy for that license (many thousands of dollars I understand) for such a place with a smaller seating area. That said, I don't always drink beer, but when I did this time, I had a Dos Equis.... :) (They have multiple beers and wines available) Its a hidden gem of the Texas hill country in our opinion and we'll make a point to visit again whenever we are in the area. They had over 20 new menu items added between our visit, so they are doing a good job of keeping it fresh. Highly recommended by all parties! read more

I failed to complete my review from several months ago, but this place is a great stop! My family and I stopped on our way traveling north on 281, and five adults and one child ate. We ordered a big variety from authentic Mexican to a burger for my son. All was great and we will stop again! read more

Unexpectedly great meal! We were on our way to Austin and needed a quick bite. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We barely missed breakfast at 11. I ordered the lunch special chicken enchilada and my husband had a beef fajita salad with cilantro dressing. The salad presentation was great. The flavors were good and not too salty which has been a problem at other places. The staff is friendly and courteous. Our kind server said they get all their spices directly from Mexico and they've been open for 9 months. The atmosphere is a laid back, Texas casita style place with old posters, wheel spoke chandeliers and jamming to Texas blues. It's next to gas station. AMAZING food. Some of the best Mexican cuisine we've had because it was so fresh. I got the Texas fish tacos- truly some of the best fish tacos I've ever had. The flavors blended perfectly with the seasoning on the fish to the crunch of cabbage, fresh cilantro, fresh avocado, and a delicious creamy dressing. YUM. Ah, and sub your refried for the charro beans-- you won't regret it!! The best charro beans I've ever had, again so fresh and finished with freshly chopped cilantro. My husband got the burrito loco- basically beans, rice and ground beef in a delicious tortilla topped with queso. Also delicious!! We got two very different dishes so that we could split them and we had the best of both worlds. We ordered chips and salsa with their medium salsa and the hottest- both made fresh in house and great flavor. We live about an hour away, but now we know where to stop anytime we're passing through on 281! I am not a local. We stayed a week in Spicewood at Lake Travis and got a recommendation from local to try this restaurant. This is the most authentic Tex Mex I have ever had. I had the happy plate which is basically chicken cheese and rice. It was delicious. This is my normal dish I get at home in Georgia. Their margs were good as well!!! Super impressed. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever encountered anywhere. The person responsible told us he was Olis son. We walked in and put our name down for a table of 6 about 45 mins in advance. After waiting our full 45 mins we were told our table was ready. On the way to being seated, Olis son stepped in to let me know that he had another group that has made a reservation earlier than me and didn't think I could have the table anymore. He made me feel like the situation was my fault and that I was stealing this groups table. After some very confused conversation I proceeded to remind him that it is his responsibility to prioritize customers and asked him what I was supposed to do. He stared at me with a blank face and a friend said "maybe we should leave" and he looked at us and responded "yeah, I think that's the best idea". Stopped at this place on the way back to San Antonio after a day road trip to Marble Falls/Horseshoe Bay based on the High yelp reviews and wasn't disappointed. Don't let the unassuming location next to a gas station deter you. The interior isn't anything fancy but right away the menu had many nice options on it. Fish Tacos were excellent. Fresh tasting and the poblano sauce was just right. Normally I wouldn't order those at a random place I've never heard of but other reviews mentioned them specifically. Rice was very flavorful. Chips and salsa were both homemade. Appreciated the chips weren't greasy and the salsa was great. Service attentive. Will come back next road trip to the area. read more

We drove down from horseshoe bay. The atmosphere is simple and clean. It is really nice and friendly. The food was delicious and we sampled the homemade guacamole and salsa. Salsa is not free, but worth the $. For dinner I had the carnitas with rojo sauce and homemade flour tortillas. My wife enjoyed the street steak tacos. An outstanding stop on US281, or a dining destination from Johnson City, Blanco, Horseshoe Bay (our home), or Marble Falls, Texas. An unassuming cafe in the truck stop strip center in Round Mountain, with a homely but lovable metal statue of a mariachi out front. Inside, it's clean, friendly, family-oriented (but with a full bar). The food is very good, with a fine variety of Mexican, and some American, dishes. Informal; no tablecloths, paper napkins. We've been there half a dozen times, for reasonably-priced lunch and dinner, appetizers, entrees and great desserts. It has the best flan presentation I've seen. We stumbled upon this place while on a weekend getaway. At first, I was a bit apprehensive eating at a place connected to a gas station, but the reviews were good. The staff was super friendly and accommodating to my family and toddler. Multiple staff members came by multiple times to make sure we were doing well. I had chilaquiles in tomatillo salsa and chicken. We also ordered a taco plate with carnitas. The pork was clean and delicious. The chilaquiles were amazing as well. Warm and welcoming! So clean and well cared for. Appears to be a local fave, as it is CROWDED on a Wednesday night. My waitress sat me immediately, and had a glass of wine at the table within minutes. I explained I was just passing through - but, LOVE Mexican food - asked for recommendations. She asked me several questions to get a feel for my favorites... her suggestion hit the spot!!! Fresh, hot, and SO tasty!
