I initially declined, but she told me there was no harm in "just signing" the paperwork, so I did. I later discovered that my dental insurance had been billed for that procedure even though I never had it performed. Based on my experience, I encourage patients to carefully review their insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements and verify that every procedure billed was actually performed.

I have sleep apnea and wanted some type of mouth guard and they seemed to be a best fit based on all my research. When I came in, I scheduled during my lunch hour, and it was less than 5 minutes from the office. I loved that I got a notification reminder week of and hour before, as sometimes I tend to lose track of time. I entered into a bright lobby and was greeted promptly (by name!!!) and was checked in. The wait time wasn't long, just a couple of minutes and the dental assistant guided me back to the room. Walking through the halls, have such great lighting, great for a photo!! lol, but entered in the room, chair was super comfy and they have a tv on the chair so you are distracted for whatever dental cause brought you in! Great for those that don't like the dentist! Dr. McRay came in after getting all checked in and asked me about my sleep study and helped review over all the information in the results and explained in great detail what he was able to offer and provide me and how he is different from other devices that are used out in the industry. I was really happy with how knowledgeable he was, as well as the staff, and making me feel super comfortable with my choice and confident in moving forward. He explained all the costs upfront and what all the costs entailed, which I left feeling even more confident that I'd made the right choice. I left and took some time to think it all through and before I knew it, I was scheduling my follow up to get fitted for my mouth guard. The cool thing about their process includes some breathing tests so that they know how to make adjustments to the mouth guard and make it truly fitted for you. They sent everything off and received back in two weeks. Night one, I noticed such a huge difference in how I slept and woke up feeling so rested and less groggy. It's amazing what one thing could do to change your entire sleep cycle. It's been a few weeks now, and still loving it. I had a follow up with Dr. McRay and he is just a dream and so is the team! Since this was a dentist my parents used for years I brought my fiancée on board as well. We scheduled a routine cleaning for my fiancée that turned into a deep cleaning which we had no problem with, the problems began when we received the bill and couldn't make heads or tails of some of the charges when asking for clarification we realized we'd been charged for services he had not received. While they credited us what we had been charged for we couldn't help but feel like the extra charges where placed their purposefully, and so the problems continued. My self and my fiancé credit was run for care credit (without our consent) to see how much we qualified for since we were paying out of pocket. Once the office knew the amount we had available to spend we where no longer updates during our appointment as to what was happening and how much each service was. I was in office to repair a crown I received from another dentist. I was told what the procedure would be and the total price of that specific procedure, whether the damage was to extensive or another miscommunication issue, the type of new crown/veneer needed to be different but at no point in time was I ever told it would be a different price until I checked out and the service was done. I was made to feel like I was being problematic for questioning the bill and at that point the level of service and quality of care I received went down hill and I was met with hostility and disdain anytime I would call especially from the receptionist / office manager. (Please reference their google reviews as it seems I'm not the only person to have problems with the receptionist/ manager and who seems to be being charged for more than what they are receiving) My family and I are disappointed that the practice has taken such a turn for the worst and have decided to not return.

This office made it to my 'Houston's Best' list (public under my profile). Dr. Khuu is the first dentist whom I've felt is an actual doctor who cares about my long-term oral health as opposed to just getting patients in and out of office like many dental offices. Also, I feel like an actual person here, not just a case to bill to insurance. The team is really, genuinely nice. I also love that I actually get to see her for my cleaning. Both Dr. Khuu and Lauren (staff) are meticulous, and I'm very happy with the thorough cleaning (it takes 45 mins to 1 hour, and I'm happy about it) and care I get here. That probably isn't super profitable for the office, yet because they answer all questions thoroughly (if for me, then probably for others as well), there's usually a little bit of a wait, so take that into consideration when you plan a visit. I still would much rather come here than any other dental office. Elyse and others at the front desk are also really nice and detail-oriented. Search no more for a great dental office. Acorn Dental is it. This office made it to my Best of Houston list. P.S. I found out by chance yesterday that there is a Dr. Acorn somewhere whose mail sometimes get sent here, haha.
