We finally made it back. There are so many dining options in Surprise. Tonight, we're here to celebrate a 21st birthday. Avoiding carbs, I selected the Grilled Chicken Margherita. Delicious!!! (Topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil pesto and a lemon garlic sauce. Served with parmesan garlic broccoli.) Of course, I accepted additional cheese. This dish is a winner. I highly recommend. Our daughter was treated to free dessert. She selected the Warm Italian Doughnuts. The youth liked them. One gave them an 8 out of 10. Absolutely trash restaurant. Each time I've been there has been hair or plastic in my Alfredo. To make matters worse, the manager didn't even want to address it or give me anything to make up for this insanitary and disgusting mess. My mother decided she wanted a sweet treat for dinner so we decided to call in and place a dessert, they had us on hold but since we were already on our way and close by we hung up since we got there quicker and noone had answered our call. When we got to Olive Garden the two car side girls were vaping outside the building. The hostess directed us where to order to find out the girls vaping outside came in to help. We ordered a dessert and they said it would be quick, unfortunately they got busy and we waited longer, we understood and yes got impatient so we asked how much longer. They suddenly got busy and told us they had orders before us and we had to wait so we understood & waited. When we came home the dessert was awful unfortunately since it wasn't a pleasant visit but we did our best to remain understanding. Over all we understand things happens but things definitely could've be better. We noticed the girls weren't busy since they had time to vape & chat but it quickly built up once we got there that led for us to wait longer & have a bad dessert. Over all perhaps the girls were on break but wanted to share this experience. I wanted some breadsticks and Alfredo to help cope with suddenly losing my uncle this morning. I am not the biggest fan of the Olive Gardens food, but my kids love this place and we have been here more times than I like to admit. So we have good memories of this place. The staff is always fast and friendly and the food is consistent. Plus I do enjoy the soups, bread and salad. So I can't hate on this place. My family took me here for my birthday. 3 generations of us, 4 adults and 1 5 year old. We were put in a side room with twice as many chairs as we needed. My daughter moved some chairs out of the way so we could sit as a family. We waited quite a long time to give our orders and to be served. When we finished, we paid on their table machine, got up and left. No "how was your meal, can I get you anything else, does anyone want dessert"? Service was abysmal but since one of my daughter has been a server before, she left a tip. We plated our own leftovers then went home. One daughter who ate her meal at the restaurant became ill later at home. I gave my left over chicken marsala (which had congealed sauce when on the restaurant plate) to my dog. She got sick at home. The only positive was having my family around me, but we could have done that at McDonald's and paid far less than the $125+ we paid. The parking lot was super busy so my husband dropped me off to put our name on the list. There wasn't a wait yet and everyone in the front was so helpful and nice. Once my husband and my dad arrived inside, we went to the table. Blake was our server and he was awesome. So friendly so prompt so attentive and happy. My wife and I had to change Valentine's Day plans because we had a change of plans when an immediate family member had to have surgery that changed today's schedule. So we were able to at least have a mini date here 30 minutes before close. I know it's Valentine's Day and no one wants to work and as a bartender I absolutely get that. However, when we got here (thinking they were open till 11pm) the hostess was polite, but also gave off vibes seemed as if they didn't know if they could take us. When I found out it was close to closing, I asked if carry out would be better. They said YES, so I went to carry out and the lady was SUPER polite and professionally warned us it it would take a while to order to go due to the amount of orders. So I suggested we order at the bar, and have a drink while we wait. The issue is I felt the eyes (not from bartender) and gazes from staff asking themselves " oh god not another table". I have a father-in-law and mother and wife who wanted Olive Garden and I felt too awkward to deliver. While I suggested it was no big deal, my wife felt uneasy and unwelcome which sucks because as a server/bartender myself, anytime a family or couple walks even 5 minutes before closing in I'm completely fine. I'm planning to work tilll close. But why not close at 8 olive? Why say your open till 9 if everyone is going to hate it? None the less I felt bad for my wife and now we are going to the grocery store to cook. I would suggest changing the closing time so guest don't feel awkward coming in toward the end of the night. I was more than happy to make it easy as possible to order a couple normal dishes even to go. This has been our favorite location for many years. The food has always been great, until today. My husband and I ordered to go, the same meal, Tour of Italy. The first surprise were the rock hard bread sticks (this is always my favorite part of the meal, so very disappointing to start off). The second was the Chicken Parm. Way over cooked and crunchy? which was weird. The lasagna seemed like it had been sitting around a while, as it was all one texture. Both meals presented exactly the same, like they had been sitting under heat lamps all day. I'm sad. I hope it was just an off day. Consistently good service, sadly a rarity in this day and age but this Olive Garden gets it. Our servers have been consistently cheerful, social when the opportunity arises and helpful. Jeff was our server tonight and he was excellent, made suggestions and was friendly as if we knew him. The entire staff thanked us as we passed each area on the way out. Makes you feel valued and that they care to appreciate your patronage. The management staff was friendly too as I visited with a manager that stepped in to show me to our booth when waiting on my fiancée who was in the bathroom, considerate he was you can wait or I'll wait for her and show her to you. So why didn't you tell us 40 minutes ago? I got the equivalent of, that isn't my Job! Ok, let's be real folks, would you stay? We didn't. Not only that but in retrospect Olive Garden and Red Lobster aren't what they were. The menus are parred to bare minimums and the once classy service is now down to greeters that you might expect in the soup lines. On January 28, 2023 I had the salad, bread sticks and Italian donuts. Within an hour I started to experience a stomachache. The next thing I knew, I was in severe abdominal distress. I suffered the most horrific intestinal cramping of my life!! For the next three weeks I experienced the following; Paralyzing abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Sweats and weight loss of 10 pounds. I was in the emergency room at Banner Boswell Medical Center twice! The last time was Valentine's Day and I spent 3 days in the hospital. The $40+ olive garden bill has turned out to cost me probably a hospital bill of $50,000 to $70,000+. It cost me my new job that I had just started. I understand why they let me go as I couldn't go back to work. I'm still weak and trying to figure out my life again as I'm unemployed, weak, eating the brat diet and find ways to get stronger. My diagnosis was gastroenteritis aka FOOD POISONING. I'm VERY careful what I eat and thought olive garden was safe. I'll NEVER eat anything from there again and I definitely will never enjoy a salad ever again. read more
