I've had the curry goat roti, curry chicken, jerk chicken and she let me try the red pea soup and it was ALL AMAZING. Very authentic tasting West Indian food unlike other places that water it down for Americans. there isn't really any good place to get spicy good Caribbean food in town so this is perfect. The restarant is bright, colourful and clean and cozy. There's good seating here also for a big family. Definitely my go to spot when I'm in need of some good hearty food. read more

For dinner we decided on this place. My hubby and I love Caribbean food. There were two people dining in together when I arrived . No one to greet me at the counter . I stood there for 5 minutes before a lady from the back waved as if she'll be out shortly . After standing there 15 more minutes, I tapped the bell on the counter . She came out a few minutes later . I ordered my usual which is curry chicken ,rice and plantains. As I waited, waited and waited I noticed how hot is was in the restaurant. I began to perspire . Clearly there weren't any AC on. A customer arrived and based on his conversation with a gentlemen that came in later ( appear to be one of the owners) he's a regular. He asked for some cake and the employee/ owner told him they were out of cake. The customer proceeded to tell him he comes in every week and there's never any cake. The employee/owner said he'd get it next time . He seemed very nonchalant about the fact his customer is loyal and he never makes sure the cake is available. Keep in mind I'm still waiting on my food . It's been over 30 minutes waiting in this hot box. After about an hour wait the food was finally ready . No one never said how long it would be. Nor did anyone apologize for the wait or offer any drinks since it was actually hotter inside than outside. The food was packed tightly in a black tray with a clear lid. It was so packed I had to eat it over a big towel in my hotel room to prevent spillage on the bed. After the long hot wait, without any water , the food was bland. I didn't realize that salad had been squeezed inside the plate as well. I will never return . It's too hot there and the wait is too long . Especially since I was the only person in line . I gave them 2 stars because I was given a sufficient amount of food. Although I really think the plate was too small for that much food. read more

I have been craving oxtail so wanted to give this place a try. I called in my order of oxtail with rice and peas and cabbage. They said it was only one size and it came to a little over $18 total. When I arrived I parked right in front of the store. The restaurant was cute and cozy. I was greeted by the owner and the young man that took my order. He grabbed my food and I paid and walked out. When I got home I dug in and the food was just ok. I wasn't a huge fan of the gravy the oxtail was in. The rice and peas was good and the cabbage was ok. I had an ok experience. read more

I just came back from Turks and Caicos and have been missing Caribbean food. Olivias definitely hit the sweet spot. I ordered the veggie curry, and my boyfriend got the oxtail, which was phenomenal. Portion is extremely generous, and I probably have enough leftovers for another two meals. The price is also very reasonable. I love the service. My bf and I couldn't decide whether to order the oxtail or prime ribs, and the waiter brought us samplers for both to try, free of charge! So rare to get such hospitality nowadays. Will be back. It was my first time in Rahway and first time trying Jamaican food. Food is really great at this place, and you get a lot of food for the price. I had the chicken in roti and so did my friend. Chicken was seasoned very nice and I especially enjoyed the shredded texture of the chicken. We also tried the corn chowder as they were doing the soup stroll on the Saturday we went--corn chowder was great too. Service was good and it seems like a family owned place, which is always nice to support especially during the pandemic. I have had the Jerk Chicken and Brown Stewed chicken. Both came with rice & peas and a salad. The chicken was well seasoned on both dishes. Real authentic Jamaican flavor. They give a decent size portion for around $11 each. My only disappointment was that the dishes did not come with plantain. Other than that I would recommend this place. I've been to this place a couple of times and the food is good well I can only speak on the oxtails, rice and beans and salad. I also ordered the chicken and beef patties and they are delicious. The oxtails are good as well. I will be returning to try other foods there. The manager and wife are cool and nice. The only reason I didn't give this place a 5 star is because I feel they are a little stingy with the oxtails for what you are paying for it. But they are really good so I get over it lol especially if I don't feel like making them myself. I recommend this place to anyone who wants some authentic carribean food for the soul. read more

I scheduled a pick-up a couple days before. I was notified via email 1-2 hours before the scheduled pick-up that the order was cancelled. We were walking in downtown Rahway and noticed that Olivia's was open for takeout in this time of pandemic. We ordered oxtails, curry chicken, stewed chicken and a chicken roti. While Olivia's is primarily a Jamaican restaurant, the roti was genuinely Guyanese! All of the food was delicious and packaged without plastic or styrofoam, so it was also eco-friendly! Not only was the food hot and excellent, the portions were generous. It did not come with plantain though and they didn't have Ting. But for the great meal, I can overlook that. This is a little hole in the wall place that you'd walk right past if you weren't paying attention, but MAN the food is delish! Right now there's only two tables inside due to COVID; my boyfriend and I reserved one of them for dinner. Literally everything we ordered was delicious. Fried catfish (fresh), oxtail (boyfriend said it fell right off the bone), Jamaican beef patty, mac and cheese, and empanadas all had great flavor (sort of a mix between Old Bay and a light curry/Jamaican seasoning). The portions were large and pricing was so affordable. Everyone who works there is also extremely nice, I believe a lot of them are family. Only thing I would suggest is that they set up some speakers in the upper corners of the room and play some island music to liven up the atmosphere! When we went CNN was blaring on the TV and that's not the type of thing you want to watch/listen to when on a date. However we will definitely be back to support this local business! read more

Avoid this establishment if you have a Restaurant.com certificate, as it will be frowned upon! I went with two guests, and we decided to try this place out for the first time. Roger (chef) was extremely friendly when we walked in. He answered questions about menu items and even gave us samples to try. We stayed and ordered appetizers, dinner and dessert. All went well until we gave them our certificate. They took a while to hand us our bill, and when they did, they jacked up prices on the Black Cake. Menu states $4 each but they charged $6. Their lame excuse was that there was a misprint on the menu. Regardless, that is false advertising! We truly believe he fidgeted with the bill because we used the certificate. If the certificates are not welcome, then they shouldn't be on Restaurant.com. In good faith, we paid the bill and tipped for service, but would not return nor recommend this place to anyone else! read more

Olivia's restaurant is very welcoming, and clean! The food is absolutely delicious. The macaroni and cheese melts in your mouth, the "shut ur mouth chicken' will actually keep your mouth shut while eating because it's that good! The jerk chicken salad is too tasty. Everything is soo good and most of all the manager Roger aims to please his customers. This is a great place to go for lunch and dinner. The portion sizes are also very fulling.
