This is a great spot to quickly pick up lunch, or stay awhile and dine at one of their many tables…read more There is a lot of space here and even when there are other customers. It doesn't feel crowded. I've been to El Viejo Fred twice and both times did not disappoint. The first time I accompanied my Dominican friend who ordered for me. The second time I was on my own, but the ladies were very helpful and we made it happen. Most of the food is behind the counter in a covered buffet-style setup. You let them know what you are interested in, beef, chicken etc, and they'll show you the offerings. You can't beat their lunch special at around $12-15. You get a giant portion of rice & meat, add on a bit of salad and you're good to go! The food is so delicious, the flavors are all there. I also had the chicken and cheese empanadas as well as beef and both tasted great, I liked the beef best it was very well seasoned. Another bonus? Tamarind juice!! Not many places have it so I'm always ecstatic when I see it on a menu. Both my friend and I really enjoyed the food we purchased from El Viejo Fred, and the friendly service we received, we will definitely be back!

The food we ordered was very delicious and will be back to try other dishes and even do some catering for a Memorial Day party!

The space is big, there's plenty of seating, and it's perfect for big groups. I love how lively it feels without being overwhelming. One of my favorite parts is the sauce and sides bar as there are so many options to customize your hot pot/bbq exactly how you like it. If you're someone who enjoys trying different combinations and flavors, you'll have a lot of fun here. As for service, it's been a bit hit-or-miss. The servers we usually get are kind and polite, but it can take a while to actually get helped. Our food often comes out before our drinks, which we totally understand, especially when the restaurant is busy, but even then everything just takes an even longer while to arrive in general. During our most recent visit, a few items we ordered were forgotten, including meats and rice. I tried re-ordering rice multiple times, but by the time our server finally asked whether we ever received it (we hadn't), I was already finished eating. He asked if we still wanted it, but at that point we had requested the check as we were ready to go. We completely understand that busy times can slow things down, but it was a little disappointing to have to repeatedly ask for something and never get it for multiple things. That said, I still really enjoy coming here. The food options are extensive, the experience is fun, and the vibes alone keeps me coming back.

We ordered from iPads but it was broken, so it took some time getting our orders in. Even then, we were missing quite a few of our orders, and had to flag the waiters down several times. This included when we needed utensils, napkins, or needed to add more food to our table. The environment is quite nice - there are giant screens playing KPOP, and a very flashy bar. The self serve appetizer station was just ok. It definitely seemed to be catered toward an American audience with fried noodles, fried dumplings, and fried chicken wings. The sauce bar didn't have everything that I wanted, but it was not too bad. Free ice cream at the end was nice! Again, this was AYCE, so don't expect top notch meat quality; however, overall it's some place you can go to host for sure.
