Olson is a bit out of the way for us so I hadn't been there in a few years and then I realized what we had been missing... Great staff! Super knowledgeable about all their inventory and willing to attempt to be knowledgeable about your project. Better yet, we needed a strange mix of items for a bathroom project, and we weren't even sure we could get it at Menards or Lowe's, but they had it all. On top of that my mother was happy to get some discounted end of season plants that she has already brought back to full health. We decided it was well worth the trip and the traffic on Grand to get there. Highly recommended! read more

This is going to be a short and sweet review as I did not purchase anything from this location. I was looking for a place to get a key made. Walked to the back as I saw the sign saying keys made. As I walked to the back, I was greeted by several workers in a pleasant manner, asking if I needed help. I got to the counter, rang the bell and a gentleman came out to help me. They have this cool machine for making keys were it looks like there is a computer database that matches up your key to the correct template to use to make the key. Well mine did not work as it was a key for the service call box in our elevator. Didn't know that at the time, but the gentleman asked another gentleman if he has ever seen a key like this as he was not getting any hits from the database. This guy took one look at the key and began to tell us what it was, the original company that made it and that they did not have the template to make one. But he recommended a place nearby that could possibly help. I thanked them and went to the place they recommended (Wernick Key & Lock Service). They could have tried to make a key that didn't work but instead they sent me to another place that could help me. If this is how they treat someone who hasn't spent any money in their store, I am curious as to how they treat people who do spend money in there. Next time I need something from a hardware store, I am going here. read more

Ordered a $200 item online said it would be ready in 15 minutes. Paid fore was charged. Set here 3 hours with people waiting finally called the store the girl had no clue. While looking for the order she says it may be out of a stock that currently happens.Then she gave me the please hold for a manager routine for 15 minutes. After that time I hung up contacted discover and cancel the order for non shipment. Old man Olsen needs to stop counting his money and pay attention to what his people are doing read more

I went in to have a key made for a tow truck, the manager was super friendly and helpful (I think his name is Chris, but I could be wrong) All of the employees greeted me with a smile. I felt very welcome coming into the store. They helped me out very quickly and the key worked perfect. I love going into this location as they always have everything I need and if I cant find it any of the employees are always happy to assist and they always know where everything is located and very knowledgeable about all of the products. I recommend this location to all of my family and friends even though it is not the closest, I would rather drive a little further just to visit this location. Thank you again!! read more

I needed help painting a room which I never took on myself. This young man, Elijah, new his stuff. He was friendly, knowledgeable and asked the right questions for the type of room I was painting. The room turned out fabulous. I was grateful he was there the next time because I had to take on another room. He even picked out paint that was on sale. He also showed interest on how the room looked. You can't find this kind of help anymore.I highly recommend Ace Hardware! read more

Little things make me feel old as hell now. For example I have a hard time believing Lil Wayne actually appeared in the song "Back That Azz Up". I still think he's this newer school rapper, but he was actually around fo' tha '99 and tha 2000. Another thing that makes me feel old is that when I was like 5, my dad took me to this very Ace Hardware to meet Raphael from the Ninja Turtles, as part of some "hey dads bring your kids! Also, buy some shit" promo. I bugged him relentlessly, but his ass shoulda known not to mention reading about it in the paper. I digress. This store seemed so huge then, but pales in comparison to modern day 'big hardware'. But this Ace looks and smells exactly the way it did 25 years ago, and I love that. Being that I rent, I prefer to come here because it's smallness works to my advantage. I'm not meandering down aisle and aisle before finding whatever simple dumb sh*t I came for. Employees are way more accessible too in case there are questions. The only caveat is if you're shopping for appliances, lawnmowers, lumber, or just need some really obscure part, you'll probably end up at Lowes in the end. But don't sleep on Ace 'cause they been at it a long time. Definitely one of the throwbacks. read more

This is based on my opinion and experience dealing with this store, I will never ever ever do business with them! I am extremely disappointed with the store's staff. I called them yesterday, begged and pleaded with them to mail me a few of their N95 masks. They appear to have about 50 off them in stock and so they were in no in danger of running out. My objective was to hand them out to my local hospital and fire department because the are in a front lines and do not have adequate masks; they are just wearing clothes over their mouths. I had a few boxes from the fires we had and so I gave them all out. A few local doctors that I know were in tears asking for these masks. I offered to pay Olson, handling fees, all shipping costs, and any other fees as long as they can ship any quantity, 1, 2, 3, 4 any quantity, but they absolutely refused. So now I have to get them from E-Bay at an inflated cost, but at the end of the day it's worth it because I am helping my community in need. This is an unprecedented event where every one should come together to help each other out. I was not asking for a hand-out I was willing to absorb all costs just to get my hands on a few masks to give them out. Olson ACE Hardware, in my opinion, is one the biggest disappointment I have ever experienced as they are nothing but a pure shame!!! read more

Every time I go in there I get great service. The store is always well staffed with people ready to help. I went in there for a couple of quick things and I know nothing about tools. One of the agents walked me around and in 15 mins I was out. There is value to a smaller store I can never find anyone at one of the larger stores. Thanks for your help. read more

This is my neighborhood Ace which I have bought things from. However today was so unprofessional. I walked in looking for some new beanies for work and gym. However not even 2 minutes walking around the apparel section I saw an employee, roxanne, walking by and radioed other employees to keep an eye on me because I looked at her when she walked by. I over heard her on her walkie, and 2 seconds later another gentlemen approached me and asked if I needed anything. I have never been profiled in my life. I never expected this from this place either. I felt so uncomfortable after she said that, that I walked upto her and requested corporates number. We are in 2023 and this kind of stuff still happens. It's just insane. I loved this place because it's one of the few that have apparels available to buy. But I'm definitely never recommending anyone to this location. This store is stained in my eyes now. read more

They usually have the things you need. Its not huge like the big box hardware stores. But It is the key machine that is key here.....HA! (you like that didnt ya!) The key copies I get here are ALWAYS exact! never a problem! So we had some home projects to do. We went to Menards and got some stuff, but realized we forgot some things. Not wanting to drive all the way to Menards when there was a hardware store a few blocks away, we stopped in at Olsen's Ace Hardware. This store has been around since I was a kid (and that was a long time ago). They've remodeled and shrunk the store, but the small town hardware store feel is still there. I'm really surprised at how this little hardware store made me feel so welcome. We got there and there were so many helpful employees to answer our many questions. Believe me, my husband asked a bunch, but they didn't even bat an eye. We got what we needed and the prices were close to that of Menards. They don't have as big of a selection obviously, but we found what we needed. We had to return things twice and had no problems. If you're going to do a big project, then you'll probably want to go elsewhere. For any small repairs, this is the place. They have a nice garden selection and they offer services such as making keys or repairing screens. So now we have a working ice maker on our refrigerator and our new sink isn't leaking anymore. Thanks to a friendly little store and my husbands many hours of hard work. read more

Such a great experience at this Ace! I was looking for an Ace near my niece's new home, so I could get her a new Weber grill with free setup and delivery. I wanted a certain model that was harder to get, but as soon as an associate noticed me, he raced off to find me what I needed. He worked hard to locate it, and then still went the extra mile to put it on hold for me, so I could arrange to have it delivered and set up when I could be there to receive it. The delivery men were polite and had no problem carrying up to their deck. They also swapped out her ancient propane tank for a full one. I just let my niece know about Ace's great annual plant sale the day before Mother's Day - I'm sure that will be a great experience as well! read more

I love ACE HARDWARE. All of them. They're my first choice before the big home improvement stores for the little stuff: Small plumbing or electrical issues, outdoor pest control, keys, RUG DOCTOR RENTAL. Which brings me to my 3 star review. My mother & I went to rent a rug doctor and strictly dealt with the cashier. I let her know, in perfect English, we want to rent a rug doctor. With an attitude she says "ok,do you know how to use it?" I'm sure she supposed to ask that, which I'm fine with but why the snotty attitude? I say " Yes, we do this every year." My mom speak English with a Cuban accent. BUT every understands her. AND this Ace is in a primarily Spanish-speaking community, so you would think she would be used to hearing an accent. Well, noooooooooooooooooooo. SHE HAD NO TOLERANCE and it pissed me off! WHY is she a cashier, up front? speaking to customers? I don't know if she's working there because she's retired or if her SS check isn't cuttin' it but if you're not happy there- don't take it out on us. So we stay as quiet, so we can just get the rugdoctor and leave. We do and on the way out we see hoses hanging next to the rugdoctor display. AND I remember sing them before so I asked my mom if we get those automatically. She didn't remember so I told her to ask the cashier if we need them? So my mom asks, she says with an attitude "What?" my mom asks again and again and finally again while holding up the hoses. So, she turns to the guy next to her and say " what did she say?" ARE YOU FUCKIN' SERIOUS? Even if my mother's accent was that heavy, she held up the freakin' hoses! The guy was minding his own business and said he didn't know, to ask my mom again. SO she asks again and finally gets it and says " only if you have stairs or furniture" we just left, completely forgetting that the stairs were carpeted. I don't want to buy anything from that ACE unless it's an emergency. I'd rather drive to Addison, Bensenville or Elmhurst. read more

I seriously do not think that the staff here could get more friendly or helpful. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a super goofy staff member. He just made everything seem so fun. I was only going there to get keys made. Just something as simple as getting a key made was an awesome experience. There was an older man who was super helpful making the keys. We then went over to the paint department, and Tim was so so helpful. He listened to me and my finance bicker and argue over paint colors. He helped us agree on colors which was super awesome. He showed up which paints to buy, and even how to paint. He took his time and there was no rush. He was even giving me information on things that had nothing to do with paint because he knew we had just gotten a house. I really appreciated that. When we checked out the lady was so nice and talkative. I think her name was Kim. Just everyone was great which was really wonderful. I don't think I'm ever going to go back to Menards or Home Depot unless I have to. read more

I ordered the Scott 4 Step System On-Line and was directed to this store for local pick up. I LOVE THIS LOCATION. Everything was so organized and clean. They have the sections set up to really help you put a project together and get great ideas. All the staff was extremely helpful. DID YOU KNOW THEY MAKE SHIP KEYS HERE? Omar was the best. My key had been broken for months but working. The dealership wanted almost $200 bucks. Omar replaced the shell, changed the battery and made the new key for less than $100 bucks and I also purchased a spare for emergencies. I paid less for the 2 keys than i would have paid to replace one. I also got some great tips for my yard and watched a great video on how to make my own shoe racks. I will surely be at this location often. THANKS SO MUCH OMAR! read more

This location is my go-to any time I need something for the house. I'm not very savvy with home repair and the staff are always very helpful when explaining how to do the job I'm working on whenever I ask. The service here is excellent and won't be matched at the Menard's or Home Depot near here. read more

Great store, great Staff! First of all, contrary to what some others have mentioned, this Ace is NOT in a primarily Spanish-speaking community. English IS the main language spoken in the entire area and Spanish is spoken considerably by some of the people in a few neighborhoods in the area. There are some language barriers, but the last I heard, we are in the USA and people do their best to understand foreign languages. When someone is difficult to understand the Staff at ACE does the best it can to accommodate the persons needs and I have never been treated in a rude manner and I don't speak perfect English either. I believe some people may just wait for an opportunity to pick an argument as a result of the "politically correct" attitude forced on many people that are just trying to live their lives, do business and help others with their needs. In other words, we're all in one big Canoe... don't make waves. lol This particular Ace hardware has been there for many, many years and if you don't see what you want or need in the store, they will order it for you and have it in a day or two. I've been doing business there for 30+ years and they have never failed to help me with some project I needed to do. If you're easily offended by slight language barriers or other political issues that you expect everyone to adhere to, my advice is to leave your bitterness at home before you go shopping next time. We're all human, and humans are far from perfect, they make mistakes, especially people that don't have the life experience to tap into yet. Find a little love in your heart for your fellow human beings and try being friendly instead of looking for something to attack someone about. There are Staff members that speak Spanish and others that speak Polish too. Ask for a Manager if you are having dificulty being understood. They will go out of their way to help you. read more

I'm a long time customer of (Killinger)Olsen Ace. I've always received good to super service, attention and assistance. Yesterday, I needed some assistance in solving a minor plumbing problem. Russ Boyer was the employee who was in the aisle by the parts I thought I needed. He took the time to give me some good advice that saved me an hour and a half labor and a few dollars. He could have just pointed to the product and let it go at that. He knew his business and gladly shared his experiences to help resolve my problem.
