There are time when they have great items on sale for a low price. Specially the tools. There are some items that need staff assistance and sometimes they are hard to find. I bought some 3/4 of boards and wanted to have it pre cut. I asked the register and had the guy paged twice. I waisted 23 mins for the guy to show up. Also the tool rental was great. One time i rented a carpet doctor vac. It worked really good. And the 50lb electric jack hammer worked right for my project. In general the store is great. They carry almost all tool brands for diy repairs. Great store. read more

I absolutely hate coming to this Home Depot. I try to avoid it at all costs. The worst problem is that they have almost no lumber carts. I will walk in to a store with no carts then I will have to walk back out, Search the parking lot, or follow another customer out to get their cart. Part of the problem is that their staff uses the few lumber carts they have for storage. The second big complaint I have with them is whenever you try to talk to customer service about any issue you're having you get a runaround. You will be placed on hold, transferred three or four times and be 20 minutes before they tell you there's nobody to talk to. I hate the store with a passion. I generally drive way out of my way to go to any other Home Depot. One star because it won't let me give zero. The only bright spots in the store are Tanisha and Rosie in the pro department. The manager of the store needs to go visit Oakbrook Terrace or Downers Grove. I never have trouble getting carts at either of those two stores. I know I'm not the only one who has this issue at the Northlake Home Depot. I'm more than one occasion, I followed somebody out to the parking lot to get their cart, came and loaded the cart with my own purchases, and when I went to another aisle to get some blades or something, I come back to find somebody has offloaded my cart onto the floor and taken it for themselves because they can't find a cart either. ORDER SOME DAMN CARTS! Update. I really appreciate the effort that was made to get some carts. When I came in today, there were plenty of carts. Quite a few new ones even. They don't know anything about the section they're supposed to be working in. Very good service. I had issues with the delivery of shingles for my roof. I want to pro desk and the one of the staff members John took care of the missing boxes of roof shingles immediately. My roofers are coming to work on the roof next day and it was important to have all products on time. Sometimes challenges arise and this is part of our life, however if the right people are responsive and can solve problem on spot the stress can be minimized. This is a terrible Home Depot, my parents went the other day as were remodeling our home and payed Home Depot to do measurements at our home. While they did this we had paid them over $100 and weren't ever told that the only person who could help order us the cabinets for our kitchen was going on vacation and wouldn't be able to finish our project till after March 20. They then asked for their money back and we're told no refund or anything to help accommodate us, my mom asked for store credit from them to accommodate than with this but we were once denied again. So we canceled our order with no benefit as we never got a refund for our money or any accommodation. The workers were also treating my parents poorly and the manager wasn't any help. Truly if you want help don't go here, they don't attend well and don't inform of their customers about anything to do with their order, take your business elsewhere. read more

When you're at this store ask for Diana she's in the flooring dept. and she goes above and beyond to answer your questions and help you. She takes her time with you so you don't feel rushed I was undecided about which vinyl flooring to pick and she was awesome in giving suggestions I wish all of the employees at this location were more like her!!! I ordered a door from homedepot.com. It was to be delivered to the LAke Zurich Il location. It was delivered to the Northlake Il store which is a 2+ hour round trip for me. The would not deliver it to the LZ store and wanted me to send my contractor to pick it up. This is a special order and would not sell easily to others. After hours on the phone I finally said I would cancel the order and reorder until the finally got it to the right store. This seemed to convince the computers they had other options and they delivered the door to me at no cost. I will not order online again from Home Depot. read more

Anika is one of the MOST knowledgeable people at Home Depot! She is absolutely AMAZING! Super friendly and she knows her stuff. Although she works in one specific department (doors), she can answer questions about many, many products, and other issues. She is responsive and timely in her updates. There was an issue with a handle with my door installation; but Anika QUICKLY resolved it and did a terrific job working with the company. She WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND and it truly a Class Act! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Anika. She has made my Home Depot experience an absolute FABULOUS one consistently! We purchased a Maytag washer, and an extended warranty, from Home Depot in Northlake. The washer is not even a year old, still under MayTag warranty. After giving us the run around for close to a month, A tech comes, says washer is rusty underneath, tells us that is because we got water in the basement, and says we are just out a washer. May Tag does not have cover it. No discussion no investigation, just his word. I told them they sent a Tech earlier, and said they would fix it, but needed a part. MayTag told me they had no record of sending anyone else. THE WORST PART IS, Home Depot is keeping the money we gave them for the extended warranty, and it was not even in effect yet, they did absolutely nothing for that money. We always have gone to HomeDepot, we have spent a lot of money there over the years. We will never buy anything there again. read more

This store is disorganized and you are lucky if you can find an employee to help you as they seem to be far and few between. I grabbed two cedar boards and had them cut from the $13.20 bin only to have them ring up at 32 and some change. I had to pay for them since they were already cut. I was absolutely LIVID. My raised cedar garden bed now costs double the price it should have. Home Depot will never see another dime from me. It's not my fault their store is not properly organized. read more

TERRIBLE customer service. We went there 2 days ago to shop for a new dishwasher. First problem... we had to wait about 30 minutes before we were even assisted by an employee. Then, that employee didnt even know any pricing so they paged someone to get some answers. No response. So they paged someone else. No response. Then again another person was paged. No response. Then a FOURTH time someone was paged. No help. Eventually, the assistant manager stepped in and he also didnt know any pricing answers. Although very nice, he was no help at all. He told us to come back the next day for Labor Day sale. We left empty handed. We (stupidly) went back the next day, then had to wait yet again because there was no one in the department. Again, we were ready to buy at that moment. Then they said the dishwasher we wanted was not in stock and that it would have to be ordered. I asked if we could get free shipping due to the fact the dishwasher was not in stock and they rudely said no. When asked for free delivery to the store, they said no again, that they didnt offer free delivery at all. So we left empty handed yet again. The staff was extremely rude and not helpful at all. Finally a manager by the name of Jose approved purchase and I went to cashier Upon reaching cashier a thin African American female took it personal and didn't want to process my order. She then discussed the matter with two other f/b and 1 Hispanic cashier. While waiting for the longest they still refused to sell me the promo item and told me to go into Chicago to purchase said item. Unknowingly the heavy m/w loss prevention person was contacted and provided idle conversation. Customer care was contacted. Names of the cashiers were not visible. HOME DEPOT THE BRICKYARD #1903 I am writing about my installation of a Steel Door from Home Depot Brickyard (Store # 1903). My original visit to the store April 2, 2019. There I paid a $35 for someone to come out and measure my door. I then had to wait until some one from the store to tell me the price of installation (strange why didn't he say) and cost of specialty door which had to be made. After finally receiving the quote I wasn't happy with the price so I went to Home Depot expecting a refund of my $35 which I was told by an associate I could get back. I then met a Specialty Sales Assistant Store Manager by the name of Anthony Massih (no longer there). Anthony informed me that there was not a refund for the $35 which is not posted in store or written on my receipt. I told Anthony I was told I could get my money back, he said that person was incorrect. I began to tell him how unhappy I was with the price quote for my door install and that I probably wouldn't buy anything else from Home Depot as the experience had left a bad impression of Home Depot Install Service. I also told Anthony that the pricing was overpriced and totally out of my budget. Anthony in turn worked with me on pricing so that I could still get the installation. After a waiting period the door arrived earlier than anticipated which I was excited about. After playing phone tag with Sandy Matecki and Nelson the installer I was finally going to get an install on May 20th. I thought this was a long time out but was told that the schedule was full. Then I was called my Sandy and was told Thursday May 16th was available for an earlier install. Of course I accepted. Then was called by Nelson the installer at the end of the 4 hour window to say that he couldn't come and he would come Friday May 17th. Again I get a call from Nelson saying he couldn't come. Meanwhile I have taken off work to be available. Finally I am angry and irritated at the fact that it is almost a month later for the install itself and my door has been there since April 25th. After I have made calls now to Sandy Matecki, Nelson on Monday My 20th I call the store and speak to Monica in the door department. I express my anger and disappointment with the situation and was told I was on the schedule for installation the following day May 21st at 9am. I told her that it would have been nice if I knew for sure that was happening because I had not heard from Nelson since Friday May 17th. (again another day off work). Monica assured me she would call me the following day to make sure that Nelson arrived for the install when she got to work at 10am the following day. On Tuesday, May 21st Nelson finally arrived for the install at 8:45am. I watch the install process because I was already uncomfortable with the whole process. I guess this made Nelson and his partner uneasy as they spoke Spanish the entire time they were here which I understood but didn't care because I just wanted my install done and done correctly. Needless to say the install got done and Nelson was so eager to leave he threw my receipt out his car window which I found the next day in the rain in front of my house. Thanks but no thanks Home Depot. My first and last install order with you. Thanks to Monica and Anthony Massih who helped where they could. There has been a noticeable improvement in staff and assistance of customers. It use to be that you would walk around looking for someone to help and felt that staff were reluctant. 4 trips in the last month and there was always someone willing to help and never responded with "not my department". The last visit I was asked if I needed help locating something. They knew exactly where it was and I was in and out super quick. Good job with the improvements! read more

Ordered a refrigerator online, told me it was ready at the store 5 days later. Went to the store for the pick up, the customer service rep handed me a 2ft by 2ft box. Obviously not my refrigerator. 5 Stars for one reason, customer service employee named Katie. As if being cute and wonderfully nice wasn't enough, she's great at actually doing her job. Walked into the North Ave. Home Depot at 11:30 pm to pick up two 4x4x96 pieces of pine, $18 in total lumber. As I approached the lumber section of the store I was greeted by large orange gates that blocked the aisle I needed access to. I looked about the store for a person in the familiar orange apron, but I was out of luck. It seemed all the employees were busy stocking shelves in other parts of the store. I was pretty pissed (already in the bad mood) and I decided, "screw this, I'm going to Lowes tomorrow." As I walked out the parking lot I remembered that I could order the lumber online. I checked, and sure enough I was able to order it for pickup "today". I clicked buy and next thing you know I was the owner of the exact pieces of wood I wanted. I walked back to the service desk and proudly showed the young woman my phone, "I'm here to pickup an online order," I said. Puzzled, she looked at me and said, "we don't have any orders ready, can you please give me your name." I told her the whole story and she got confused as to why I hadn't just asked her for help originally, then the same confusion grasped me. I realized that I had just felt like being a jerk, and I told her as much. I was simply in a bad mood and I was at the verge of taking it out on her, yet she was as helpful and calm as could be. While she got someone to run to the lumber section to get my wood, I picked up a couple new LED floodlights for the backyard. During the process of ringing me up for the lights, she apologized again (even though they had never done anything wrong), and she made sure to do a little something for my receipt that was greatly appreciated. People can dislike home depot all they want, main complaint is that employees lack of knowledge (as if we think Home Depot could keep prices down while hiring enough professionally trained people to actually answer all our questions, that's what your local hardware store/guy is for), but this person busted her ass and used all her ability to make sure that I had a good experience at her store. She took pride in her job, her store, the reputation of her employees, and in giving satisfaction. If I hired for Home Depot she would get a raise and a promotion, if I hired for a different hardware store I would try to hire her as my first employee. read more

On 2/20/16 I placed an order for interior doors (10+). Two doors were special order doors but we were told they would arrive by 3/2/16....... Still waiting on the 2 doors. Our contractor went to pick up the doors on 3/7 and the horrible customer service desk had no clue about the order and nothing was found. All items (with the exception of the 2 special order doors) were in stock items. They would not help him and he left with out any of the order. I did speak to Gus and Tom and they were helpful getting the rest of my order together and to me ASAP. I called that evening to follow up with Tim the manager in the department to check on the 2 special order doors. I was so appreciated when we were there placing the order because he was easy to work with and helpful. It was nice after walking out of Menards very unhappy. We were happy to give the business to Home Depot and this wonder sales person / manger. Apparently, this was short lived as he was great to make a sale but HORRIBLE on the follow through and order dates. Tim was suppose to check on the order and call me back to let me know what was going on. A week later - no call back. Now I really need these 2 doors. Plus I need to arrange transportation for pickup. Today 3/15 I called and talked to Tim again after being hung up on the first call. Reminded him that he never called me back last week, he never apologized or acknowledged the oversight of this. Said the doors were still in production and will be here this week. Well I need them the morning they are suppose to arrive! I asked to speak to his manager and was told they were in meetings. Said they would call me back. then I disconnected (got hung up on) since I didn't get a call back if it was accidental. I would have NEVER placed this order if I was told it would take 1 month! Never. It was urgent that we got the doors with in two week. Thankfully there was some additional delays on the project that allowed for the added time of the doors, but now I need them! Buyer beware when ordering doors, and there are simple SLAB doors - just an odd size. We saw two doors we were going to go back and order for exterior doors - I will go somewhere else after this hassle. So disappointing that you get great customer service when an order is placed and a large sale is made but the follow up, and customer service after the sale is horrible. And most importantly we were told wrongly about the arrival dates of these doors. What a mess! read more

Completely pissed me off...i went in to return a lifetime warrantied pair of channellock pliers...the return desk person wasn't sure about warranty(understandable)...so she called a manager over...he told me to get another pair off of the shelf... So i walked across the store to get a new pair...found identical pair as well as about 40.00 in extra tools...get back to return counter where the clerk told me she wouldnt warranty it. The only reason I went back to this location is because it is only 5 minutes from my residence. Garbage employees. I don't know if they just hate their jobs and make it a sport of not making eye contact with customers or running away when someone clearly has a question but this place takes the cake in poorly trained floor staff. Rude, slow and a waste of employment. Should retrain or just rehire an entirely new front of house staff. It's a wonder anyone returns to this location at all unless for sheer lack of options. Even when I found an employee, started speaking and walking towards them, they acknowledged that I was speaking and then zoned out and began helping another store employee trying to push off another customer so he wouldn't have to be bothered assisting him anymore. I would have had better luck finding what I needed with a detailed store map and a compass. read more

Went here for the last time yesterday. Only returned after my first visit because of its convenient location for me. Every time I have been here it has been a disappointment, but yesterday was by far the worst. I was trying to do a simple return (unopened packages that were purchased within the last 2-3 weeks) and they somehow turned it into a nightmare experience. The cashier was mind-numbingly unintelligent, and downright rude. If they treat their ProExtra members (that spend upwards of $1,000 at HD monthly) like this, I can't imagine how they treat the average customer. Whatever you need, go somewhere else. read more
