F45 is a franchised gym that offers a fast-paced fun group workout roughly alternating days…read morefocusing on upper body, cardio, lower body, and full body/abs/cardio. The workouts focus on "functional" fitness and are 45 minutes long (except for one hour-long session a week), hence the F45 name. The workout for the day is the same program whether you're exercising in Australia where the program began or here in little Rhody. (Very cool today to take a 9am session here while my daughter took the same one in LA.) Pre-registration is required as there is a limit of 28 participants in any class - at least in this club. The goal to to move fast, sweat, and develop some camaraderie with your fellow participants and partner for the day - high fives are pretty much mandated. Two staff members work at every session. They explain and QUICKLY demo each move and describe the circuit. You and your "partner" - assuming an even numbers of people in the class, you are paired with someone who moves through your circuit with you - start at an assigned station and receive direction and timing from a video screen demo'ing your move as you do it. The staff regularly visit everyone in the room giving support and encouragement and some comments to assist with your form, weight selection, and (in my case) an explanation of the occasionally confusing progression through the circuit. The sales material says the program works for all fitness levels but if you are not used to regular strength training, this probably isn't for you: it's fast and many of the exercises are complex (upper and lower body combined even on leg- or arm-only day, with cardio because of the limited rest periods so it's always a HIIT program), the weights start at 10 pounds, and many of the safety tips aren't consistently given (knees above ankles for a lunge, roll your shoulders back and don't collapse into it...), and it is WICKED FUN!!! The staff are friendly, the club is clean, the equipment is great (y-bells, Thor's hammers, multi-handled sand bags, in addition to the expected kettlebells, dumb bells, etc). Pricing is higher than a "gym," more like a Pilates or yoga studio. Again, I loved it - but this won't be the place for everyone.

He knows what he's doing and he's constantly paying attention to proper form and to how to up the ante on my strength goals. I've also started getting deep tissue massages with Jay Moran for a long-term shoulder issue that was impeding my strength training. Again, Jay is professional and kind and has helped me gain increased mobility in just a few weeks. I don't know the other trainers as well, but the ones I've seen around the gym are always nice and seem to love what they do. Body Soul is the BOMB!

I know very little about anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, sports conditioning,…read moreexercise science or physical education. What I do know is that it feels good when I move my body in a healthy way. And there is no better place to do that than at Body Soul Personal Training. Eddie Fleury has been my Body Soul personal trainer since February, and it helps to have someone in my corner. I wasn't sure I'd like having a personal trainer. It seemed like a luxury, and I often wondered if I could afford it, if I was worth it, or if I'd see any progress. Today I can say without a doubt that this is the best gift I could have given to myself. I have developed an incredible rapport and trust with Eddie. We work as a team. Each session, Eddie gently adds something new to increase the duration or intensity. So gradually I am building upon what I did the week before. He calls them "progressions." The empirical data show that I have lost weight, inches and body fat; I have gained strength, endurance and flexibility. What is critical, however, is that I have gained more confidence, which cannot be measured with scales and charts. My skin is glowing, my clothes fit better, I am standing taller and I am setting a good example for my family. I am at peace with my body, my age, my abilities, my strengths and my life. Becoming the best version of myself: Strong. Confident. Secure. Powerful. Hopeful. Satisfied. Blessed. Here's to feeling healthy, staying fit and loving life! Here's to Body Soul!

I apologize for how long it is but I really don't want anyone else to experience what I did. I signed up for Fit 4 Life in Mid October of 2017, after two of my friends said that they had signed up and enjoyed it so far. I spoke to the owner, Pete, who assured me that my late schedule requirements were manageable (I work in Boston and would get back to Cranston around 7/730 pm at night). After speaking to Pete and Connor, the other trainer, I felt confident that I would finally get the workout regimen and nutritional help that I've desperately wanted for some time. I was excited to work with them and trusted that they were excited to work with me. I couldn't be more wrong. I will say both Pete and Connor are knowledgeable and the workouts I had with Connor were always great. The problem was time management and lack of communication. Multiple times, I had shown up to train with Connor and he was nowhere to be found. I would then get a text, after already having driven there and taken time out of my day, to be told that his phone had broken or that he had scheduled breakfast with his mother and that we would have to reschedule. The first time this happened, I understood. The second and third times - not so much. Another issue I had was the ways in which we communicated. I was constantly texting back and forth with Connor - but almost every single time was me reaching out to him. Every week I was sending a text making sure I knew when my appointments were. Often times, I would get a "oh sorry, I have plans I forgot about - how is Saturday?". This baffled me. First off, why am I the person always reaching out? I am the client. Secondly, a few times is fine, but every time? That is unfair to me. When I couldn't stand the inconsistency any longer, I reached out to Pete and explained how I felt. He said that he completely understood and that he would now be taking over my appointments. This made me happy - not only would they be in the early AM (5/6 am before my train to Boston) but he seemed genuinely concerned about my concerns, even making it a point to say that we would get 4 half hour sessions in a week and that he would let Connor know. I felt like he valued me as a client but, again, severely mistaken. I, once again, reached out to Pete EVERY SINGLE TIME to schedule our work outs. The first time he told me Wednesday AM was fine but never told me a time. I asked him what time worked and then he immediately responded saying Wednesdays didn't work. This was wildly confusing considering he said this directly under the text conversation we had where he said he could. We made our first appointment for a Saturday. That morning, I asked him what time I should come in because, again, he never texted me to let me know what worked. He completely ignored my text. Pete told me multiple times he would refund me because I was behind three classes. He told me, via text, that he would give me back my money but stopped texting me all together. Just completely ignored me. I ended up not going to my last two weeks because this was THE WORST experience I have ever had with a business and there was never any initiative to resolve these issues. I feel like because I paid upfront, I was seen as less important than their other clients. I see the positive reviews others have left and honestly wonder what I did to receive such an opposite experience. All in all, if you do decide to sign up make sure you do not pay until you receive the service. However, I would recommend that you just go somewhere else with people who are proven to be reliable and good business owners.

With a maximum class size of 5 - 6, you will have as close to personal training as you can get. The space itself is also top notch. The whole gym has a luxe feel and the studio is small but airy and bright. Between the nice facilities and unique classes, they offer a lot that you won't find anywhere else.

I can tell this gym is focused on personal training and from the reviews looks like 5 stars there as well. But back to the part-time membership - worth every penny. Because they are a personal training gym, we usually always had the place to ourselves which I ended up really, really liking. When I was in fantastic shape, going to the regular gym was nothing, but when you've got some extra pounds to shed, having a nearly private space was amazing. I was concerned that because it was a personal training gym a trainer would eventually come up and try to sell me on some sessions, but that didn't happen. Unlike larger gyms I've been to! Also because they are personal training, you have just about every piece of free-weight/aerobic equipment that you could want, along with several machines - again at your disposal, no worrying about waiting for them. They also offer classes that look fun. Finally you CANNOT, I repeat cannot beat the atmosphere here. It is really cool inside, extremely clean, set-up well (2 floors), modern and the staff/owners are so friendly and pretty much mind their clients and not your presence. In conclusion, the weekday membership is not for everyone, but if you can swing it, it's worth it!

Jack Hammond and I regularly met throughout the week for 60-minute training sessions. I can't emphasize this enough-- his enthusiasm, encouragement, and overall knowledge about training undoubtably helped me achieve my goals. Not only did he constantly challenge and push me to improve and train harder; but he did so with a positive attitude. Obviously just by looking at Jack, you'll be able to tell he knows a thing or two about fitness and lifting (the guy is ~~ripped~~), but what sets Jack apart from the other "bro-science" personal trainers, is that he is ACE-certified, has a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, and also has experience with college athletics. His overall understanding about fitness is all backed by his years of experience + knowledge about science-based explanations ... now I don't know about you, but I don't think I could have asked for a more qualified trainer. Due to personal obligations and a career change, I'm no longer able to train at Method as regularly. The good news is that I'll always be able to keep the lessons I've been taught on proper form, correct movements, acceptable adjustments, and lastly-- my higher and improved self-esteem.

I love Method's take on fitness: they recognize that everyone has a different fitness journey, that fitness goals vary, and that getting healthy is a process. By working with Adam and Nigel, I've learned that changing my body composition and dietary discipline has to be habitual, and that success is related to consistency. They've also taught me there is no magic pill, no fantasy workout, no fancy sweatmore sweatpants that are gonna burn my fat, lift my butt, and sculpt my arms; only my hard work will achieve those things. And that the hard work is WAY worth it. With Adam and Nigel's guidance, my weekly workouts have progressed hugely over time. I've dropped weight, changed my body composition, increased my cardio capability, and am strong as hell. Worried about Method being way too bro-tastic for your tastes? No worries there. Amahl, the owner, does an incredible job curating a team of trainers that is dedicated to a healthful lifestyle and are super fit themselves, but somehow lack the macho-man-cool-story-bro gene. Worried about Method not being hardcore enough for you? No worries there, either. These trainers are SERIOUS. I see some of the trainers' personal workouts while I'm coming and going in the space - and their strength, ability, stamina, and discipline AMAZE me. Super inspirational. Couple other plusses: the space is clean and beautiful, parking is easy peasy, there are always fresh towels to wipe your brow, and spring water is provided to quench your thirst. In short, integrating Method into your fitness routine is nothing but a good thing. You'll get where you want to go faster, with better knowledge, and with great guidance.

I paid thousands of dollars for several months of personal training plus a regular membership. First, they promised one free month for the person who referred me to the gym, and that never happened. When I tried to stop training, they forced me to pay an extra month because of a "30‑day notice" clause, that translated to an extra $642 dollars for the month. Then I had to move from Rhode Island to Texas, well beyond their own 15‑mile rule for cancellation. They asked for proof of my new address, which realistically takes time because you only get that after you've actually moved. I waited, sent the proof they requested, and now they're still demanding the remaining three months of the contract before cancelling. To me, this is a PREDATORY, SCAM ‑LIKE way of doing business. If you're considering this gym, read every line of the contract and think twice. There are many other gyms with FAIR, FLEXIBLE memberships that don't punish you when life changes.
