Cuban sandwich with a side of potato salad

The wife and I stopped in at the Olympic Restaurant and had a great experience. She ordered the salad bar, which had a large selection and plenty of fresh options. I went with the Cuban sandwich and a side of potato salad. The sandwich was very good--full of flavor and nicely prepared. The potato salad was a little different than I'm used to, with the potatoes more ground up, but it was still very tasty. Dulce S was our server and she was very attentive and pleasant throughout the meal. I couldn't finish everything, so I grabbed a slice of red velvet cake to go. She threw in some extra pickles Overall, the meal was very affordable, and we'll definitely be back again.

Looks a little naked as my side was the salad bar but very tasty!

So once upon a time, the pandemic hit, and the much-loved salad bar here bit the dust! There was tremendous hue and cry from the customers, including me, but it was to no avail. The servers also yelled and screamed because they had to make the salads but nope, management held firm. Finally, management reconsidered this fall and it's back! Hallelujah! This will be a short specialty review with a focus on the salad bar. So, I blew in for lunch intending to have the salad bar as my side. As soon as you walk in the door you are staring at it. Check out three of my photos. One is of the full bar and then there are close ups of each half. Note how meticulously maintained it is. Everything is scrupulously fresh! It's not particularly large but has enough variety to satisfy most everyone. By the way, your server will bring out cold salad plates as needed. So, what's the cost? It depends. On this day I ordered an Open Face Hot Roast Beef Sandwich @ $11.50. It came with one side. To substitute the salad bar was an upcharge of $3.50. That's a hell of a deal! With other more expensive entrees it may be included. The salad bar was just as I expected. Crisp and fresh and absolutely delicious! I've been a customer of the Olympic for over thirty years, and salad bar gets a five-star smile from me!

    This is the outside, duh.

We aren't sure if the Okympics started in Avon, Florida, but if they had, they'd have been eating good. Stopped here by chance, lunch specials on point (that's an Olympic term, look it up, or don't, Im not paying for your data). Simple math, rookies, get here before another 4 years go by.

We were traveling and found Olympic through Maps. The building is older but the food is Fresh! We had the ribeye, chef salad, Reuben and cod with lemon butter sauce. All were delicious and everyone wants to come here again. Service was a little slow but it was busy and our server took very good care of us. I can recommend without hesitation.

I've eaten here many times, but this time my meal was exceptional! Arriving- This place is out in the boondocks of Avon Park! Trust your GPS to get you started. Once you are closing in there is excellent signage. Of course, you're parking at the clubhouse and there is a decent lot. Watch out for golf carts! Atmosphere- This is a golf club restaurant that is open to the public. It's a big, bright, airy place with two large rooms and a beautiful bar. As many of the customers are just off the golf course, it's very casual. It has quite a few TVs for catching a game but it's definitely not a sports bar. Customer Service- Our server was a bit of a mix. She was very new, very nice, but lacking in knowledge. With a little time, I think she'll be great. Food- A combo of unique and classic American fare. You've got your burgers, chicken parm and alfredo dishes. There is a selection of flatbreads that are awesome, and a giant pretzel served with warm beer cheese that is incredible to share! I was on a mission. I had seen an 8 oz. skirt steak with chimichurri on the menu. It's not often I see chimichurri and I was drooling. I paired it with some fries and looked forward to an amazing lunch. It was out in good time. For a lunch plate, it was a very nice presentation. The nicely seared steak was coated with chimichurri with some additional served on the sided. The pickled onions were a nice touch. The fries were beautifully cooked. The steak was fantastic and a perfect medium rare. The chimichurri was bursting with flavor and the fries were exceptional! The meal was an easy five stars, but the service was a bit off. I'm going with four stars and a strong recommendation to get the skirt steak!

I had a chance to visit for lunch and found the food to be quite good. My wife and I were staying at the far eastern edge of Grace Bay, so this restaurant was visible on the way as we were driven by shuttle from our hotel to the tourist area. Thus, on this hot Saturday afternoon, I decided to visit by walking. The park is located on the other side of the road from Grace Bay Club, with plenty of car parking. There is a large airstream trailer where the cooking occurs, and an outdoor bar right next door (where you order, pay, and get your beverages. The bartender initially took my order, and after paying by credit card (including mandatory 12% tax and 10% service fee), I was given a numbered marker to take back to any picnic table so they knew when to deliver. The area had free wi-fi which was really useful. I got my Turks Head Draft Lager (I-AIN-GA-LIE) for $6 ($26 for a pitcher which isn't a bad price if with others), and ended up finishing it before my food came, so went back and ordered another pint (at which point I learned that they do not accept cash as payment). The beer was crisp and cold, perfect for drinking it outside on a day like this. The price of the pitcher goes down to $12 during happy hour (3-6pm daily). I ordered three things recommended by reviews, and none of them could be considered Caribbean food, but instead really well executed versions of good food: all of them were good to excellent. Mahi Tacos (choice of fried or grilled) (2 for $20) - a picture is better than words here for sure. will say the tortilla had been warmed/crisped beforehand, and it made a big difference. "Big Mac" Cheeseburger Egg Roll (1 for $6) - delivered right when finished. it was greasy with the inside still close to molten. But with thousand island dipping sauce and the ground beef/diced pickles/melted cheese filling, the combo really worked, especially with the cabbage provided. Poutine ($12) - I was surprised how good this rendition was. The demi-glaze gravy was excellent, really adding flavor. And the cheese curds were right on, slightly melted with a bit of pull. This version would work really well, even in Wisconsin. Just wish it had been delivered right when made, instead of letting it sit while the rest of the meal was being prepared. Those couple of minutes makes a big difference in the crispiness of the fries as they sit in liquid. Service was pretty much the same as I've found elsewhere on the island: does what is necessary without any level of enthusiasm.

Be prepared for a wait--this place gets very busy. Food can take up to 40 minutes, and on our first visit the wait was closer to 1.5 hours, so we ended up leaving. We came back the next day earlier in the evening, before the crowds rolled in, and that made all the difference. We ordered the Beyond Meat burger, spicy falafel bowl, Bang Bang broccoli, and curry fries--everything was spot on. While waiting, we wandered over to the bar and grabbed a mango cocktail and a beer, both of which were fantastic. Highly recommend dining here at least once during your stay in Turks & Caicos--just go early and enjoy the vibe.

-7 years of patronage! -…read more I was 1st to review these fine folks in 2018 and have since had breakfast here many times. This visit was my 1st time for lunch! Important note- This is NOT the franchise chain with a similar name! This is a different family-run, single location restaurant. Pro Tip- Breakfast & Lunch only. Just check Yelp for dinner options in the area. Arriving- They are on the Northbound side of US Route 27, hidden in the Sebring Square Plaza. They're nestled among a string of plazas and signage is not great. Use your GPS. Hint- Look for the Winn-Dixie or Advanced Auto Parts signage and you're there! As they are in a plaza, parking is almost always a snap. Ambience- Don't get excited. It's standard Florida Kitch. You don't go to an inexpensive restaurant to admire the décor. You expect neat and clean, and you will absolutely get that here. Pro Tip- Wi-Fi can be spotty due to the business location. They do have Wi-Fi, but it's restricted to management only. Not the servers, not the customers, just management! Say goodbye to one half star! Customer Service- 10 Stars! I was seated with a menu and had my drink within a minute. I placed my order within a minute of when I was ready and my food was out in less than 10 minutes. Just perfection! My wonderful server was Bobbi-Lynn. I know this because a card on the table told me so. When she delivered my check, she flipped the card over and there was a message. See my picture. So unique and appreciated! Pro Tip- As with many great places in this area, the Sunday church rush is something you do not want to experience! Here it begins around noon so beware of Sundays! Food- Standard American comfort food at its best. As they are in the city of Sebring, you might see a dish called Sebring this or Sebring that, but that's just a marketing ploy. It's still just good ole comfort food. On this visit my trusted Yelp Friend, Art J., recommended the Patty Melt & Crinkle Cut Fries so I went with that. Great job Art! My Melt was piping hot and cooked just as I requested. The caramelized onions were perfect. The fries were hot and crispy. Just a wonderful lunch for about $13 and change. Conclusion- Over 8 years, these fine folks have almost 700 reviews that average 4.5 stars from Yelp and that other site that some folks use and that's impressive. When I first reviewed them, this wasn't true, but they have matured, and I now agree! If they ever change their misguided Wi-Fi decision, I'd go 5 stars!
