I heard lots about this restaurant from it being showcased on Home Town Takeover. This is what drove me to stop in for dinner on a Tuesday night while visiting Sebring. I got caught up in a terrible rain storm and ran my way in. At dinner time there was only one table dining in when I arrived. I was sat near the back and had a full view of the restaurant. The restaurant interior is gorgeous. I liked all the decorations and warm lighting that provides a relaxing atmosphere. There were several flies inside but the tables all had tabletop fans that spin to keep them away from the food. My food was very yummy. I really liked the plantains. The chicken and peppers was a generous serving. The rice and beans went together great. I thought everything on the menu had decent prices and was affordable. I ended up taking half my dinner to-go because it was alot. I looked at the giant pastry counter display in the front. Definitely would have to stop in another time, maybe for breakfast to get some. read more

Wonderful brunch at Sophie's Café! This was my second visit to Sophie's Café, and both times have been excellent. I was in Sebring visiting friends who recommended the spot, so we went for Sunday brunch and loved it. The breakfast and coffee were delicious, portions were generous without being overwhelming, and the prices felt fair. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and our server was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Sebring! read more

We drove to Sebring from the Orlando area, thanks to HGTV's Home Town Takeover show. We waited until the weekend of the Soda Festival (in April), and then hit several of the downtown circle's establishments. Sophie's Cafe was one of the businesses featured on an episode, so obviously we wanted to check it out, having watched the behind-the-scenes details. The restaurant was super busy, so we put our name in and walked around for an hour before being called. The restaurant is pretty tight inside when there are a lot of people. We were seated across from the bakery case, and there were a lot of people walking by and ordering pastries. I ordered the Pan con Lechon -- a pressed Cuban sandwich with shredded pork and onions. I just ordered the half size, and thankfully I did. It was huge! So if you really want a value (and maybe some leftovers), order the full size for only a couple of dollars more. Came here on 2 occasions and both times the place was filled! This place is truly delicious and has an authentic feel. You don't have to go far for great food and coffee! There is indoor and outdoor seating. The menu has a wide selection and if you want something smaller they also have a variety of pastries at the front. Despite being busy the service has always been prompt and they have been helpful with abut questions we had on the menu. Would absolutely return and invite others! read more

Went to visit the restaurant after following the HGTV show featuring Sebring. It was cool to see the circle. Sophie's is a really solid choice. Food is a 5 for sure. Everyone in my party had Ropa Vieja, (shredded beef slow cooked in tomato sauce with peppers and onions). It was dynamite. Rice and beans were very good and the plantains were awesome. Service was just okay. We ate outside, which appears to be somewhat of an afterthought. Outside of getting food and drinks, we weren't checked on and had to go inside to settle our bill. They need to decide if it's going to be table service or counter service. Again, go for the food. Service may be better inside. read more

We came to check out the renovated circle including Sophie's which we saw on HGTV. The restaurant renovation is fantastic. We got a large Cuban sandwich ( large enough to split) , also got the beans and rice. Looking at the apps/ sides we decided to try a pork tamale ($2.75) .... This was so good! "Let's take a swim to Cuba in Sebring" is how I felt when I walked in here . The place is really clean first thing I noticed . The food menu is nicely done and priced . The pastry counter is clean and full of variety. I had two pastry's and a breakfast sandwich , complimented with Coloda coffee and it was still better priced and better food quality than any other breakfast place in town . Stop - Turn around and go to Sophie's. It will be better than the restaurant you are about to walk into. We had fajitas and pork steak with black beans and rice ( fantastic) Only complaint was the pizza empanada. Almost no filling in it. Would have rather paid another dollar and gotten more inside. read more

I had high hopes for this establishment but sadly, the excitement fizzled out rather quickly. My parents and I were in town to manage some properties we have and decided to try out Sophie's for the Cuban cuisine. My mom is Cuban and I grew up in Miami so I know good Cuban food. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything special, I ordered the shrimp with the red sauce and it was room temperature, so was the rice that came with it. We were sat inside around golden hour and the light coming through front glass doors was pretty uncomfortable shining directly at me; this is just a technicality but an observation that could be made by any of the staff and perhaps improved by moving the dining table to another spot. Service was not the best, employees were not very welcoming and lacked excitement and friendliness. There were a couple times we tried engaging in conversation with them about the opening of the restaurant and they wouldn't even respond. Kinda robotic... not sure I'll be returning. It has a lot of potential though! read more

We were visiting family in the Lake Placid area and they suggested driving to Sebring to try this place. Everything we had here was amazing. I got the (half) Cuban sandwich with fries and a guava lemonade. Others in our party got the Beef Stew and the BLT. We all loved the food. For dessert I got a guava pastry. It did not disappoint. When we were finishing up, the owner stopped by our table and chatted. She was an authentically nice person. I would love to come back and try the coffee and other Cuban entrees! Staff members were confused where to sit us. Before we were finished with our lunch they had people ready to take our seats. When we asked for our check two different employees told us the check would be brought to us and second we were told pay at the cash register. Food was okay. read more

recently visited Sebring to see the HGTV sites. We stopped at Sophie's Cafe Downtown for early dinner and it was a great experience! The two ladies providing service were outstanding! We split a Cuban (the sandwiches are huge!) which was great and both had side salads, which were good. We also purchased some turnovers which we had for breakfast this morning--very tasty, filled with guava and cream cheese. read more

Had the best Empanadas that I have ever had in this quaint Cuban cafe in downtown Sebring. Had a chance to chat with the owner Sophie and her staff about her remodeling experience with Ben and Erin with HGTV and it was nice to see that a deserving group of people were able to take the opportunity and really run with it. Highly recommend for the food and ambiance. The wife and I had the Cuban sandwich and empanada, and we filled a box to go from the pastry counter. Sophies is an excellent place to eat. Im born Floridian & went on my Birthday this year. It was amazing The food was fresh, smelled amazing, most of all the presentation of the food made me feel like I was having something special. The server was quick to serve , polite, Im planning another trip very soon. The Salvation Army building was rustic & antique with modern decor I felt like I was sitting in an island cafe. While visiting family we went to Sophie's and you better believe we will return anytime we are in the area. The place is immaculate. Food is served hot , made fresh and with quality ingredients. Some of the best quesitos in central Florida. The NY sandwich delicious, the cortadito delicious. The cafe con leche on the sweeter side so make sure you are specific about the way you take your coffee. The service was great. Not sure why someone else said something about there being a language barrier because the young man who helped us was fully bilingual. Either way this is a must go to when in the area. read more
