The Olympic was an enjoyable experience. There was a trainer waitress with an experienced one. Both were helpful and polite. It was interesting hearing all the things that have to do and how. The inside is slightly dated but had some individualized charm to the traditional Greek resturant. We came at dinner. Breakfast and lunch was served all day. This wasn't in the menu but the trainee told us. The menu was blurry and a couple items retyped. I also noticed Huevos Ranchos was listed on the door but not the menu. I got that. We also had Philly cheesesteak and dumpling soup. All were good to very good. The person next to us said to give compliments to the chef for the Ruben and fries. The bathroom was clean but oddly had the toilet roll on the door. Additional it was likely the highest placed urinal I've ever seen. At 5'9" I was aiming up a bit. We came here because all the other breakfast places were packed. The booths are very small and not the most comfy. The food was okay, but they don't have the most options. If you are in a pinch and don't want to wait for other restaurants come here. Otherwise try to make a reservation at other places because their menu is limited. read more

Visited on a Sunday for lunch. Place was practically empty. Restaurant could use updating and renovating. Most orders were take out. Staff friendly but not attentive even though it was not busy. Everyday food. Nothing fancy. My mini-Tacos were not what I expected for "Tacos." Salty with the tortilla hard and chewy. No complaints from the other menu items ordered. A basic no frills family run breakfast/lunch spot in Downtown Lake Geneva. It's an older establishment for sure, almost feels like you're stepping back to a simpler time. Food was fantastic, that griddle is slinging out great eggs, hash, French toast, all of your standards. And that breakfast sausage is the best I've had. Service can be a little iffy depending on if you get an adult or one of the kids. Most recently, our request for orange juice went unfulfilled, but I'll gladly overlook that to support a mom & pop establishment. read more

We like old-school family restaurants, and their menu looked good, so we decided to give them a try for lunch on a weekday during the off-season (April, before the crowds descend upon Lake Geneva). They initially wanted to seat us in the center, but we preferred a booth along the wall and the girl seating us said that was fine. But she never bothered to bring us menus or silverware, so we ended up grabbing those from one of the center tables that already had them. Three of us ordered the Chicago-style hot dogs, and one got a cheeseburger and upgraded to sweet potato fries (a hefty $2.95 upcharge). When they brought the food out, two orders were wrong with one person getting fries when they ordered coleslaw, and the person that upgraded to sweet potato fries received regular fries. We told the server and she brought coleslaw and had that person keep the fries, but then took the plate with the burger & regular fries. After a couple minutes the owner brought the plate with the burger & regular fries back, apologized, and said it would just be a few minutes for the sweet potato fries. My only other complaint is that for the Chicago hotdogs the buns and all the toppings, including the tomatoes, were very cold, so the hotdog wasn't nice & hot, but just lukewarm when we got it, and was cold halfway through eating it. read more

This place has a great local flavor (pun intended) with an amazing vintage vibe. From the inviting old fashioned storefront sign to the great diner interior, this is a no frills restaurant from a different era when the focus was on good service and good food. We had the cheese curd appetizer which was served with a marinara and wasn't too much and super fresh. We both had burgers (bacon cheese and a patty melt) with perfectly fried French fries. You can tell the grill is perfectly seasoned because the burgers were exactly what you expect from a place like this: flavorful, simple, just greasy enough but not sloppy. We visit Lake Geneva from Chicago often and will absolutely add this to our dining rotation. You should, too. read more

This is my second time here and in between were about 10 years. When I first came to Lake Geneva I tried it and it looked pretty filthy back then. Everything looked old and washed out and you couldn't tell if the tables or chairs and booths were really clean so I decided not to review it since I'd only been there once. Today is my second time and it looks like a newer coat of paint and the vinyl on the booths were not cracked or old looking. It was rather busy for a Monday morning and all the other places too so we were hungry and sat down. Iced tea is fresh-brewed. Service was quick and I had the Olympic breakfast which had everything I liked. Two pancakes, 2 eggs, choice of meat and potatoes. So glad they have hash browns because Egg Harbor and the other Simple breakfast place too have country style or cubed potatoes which I truly hate. This restaurant overcharges (based on their website menu and prices). When this was addressed with them, they stated they have not updated the website. This was somehow our problem. The food was poor. The hot dog was cold, the coleslaw was inedible. When we called to inquire about the bill, the woman said she would hang up on us and she did. I found myself in Lake Geneva, WI this week, as typical a tourist spot as any. Feeling a might peckish, I was scoping out restaurants by how much I liked their exterior vintage neons, and opted for the Olympic, right downtown, a couple blocks from the lake. It's an old-timey coffee shop format, serving all three meals, with booths and tables. It's also crowded, not with people, but with 'stuff,' and you'll have to negotiate a path to the washrooms, for instance. They have a HUGE menu, with enough variety to easily please any diner, and simultaneously overwhelm any kitchen. In other words, the menu is so long that most places are going to have to look for short cuts, and in the case of my selection, the "Meat Lovers Burger," it meant going with food service ingredients instead of fresh, prepared, in-house grub. Yeah, I know, it's a coffee shop. The burger came with fries (which were OK), and was around $10.50, adding cheese would slap on a buck. Didn't eat much of it, didn't take it to go, either. Service was "OK," there was one young woman for the entire dining room when I arrived, and she seemed a little harried. Ambiance was typical of this kind of joint. Bathrooms are fairly clean. Maybe I made a bad choice, maybe the kitchen was having an off day, but they weren't very busy. There are sooooooooooooooo many options in Lake Geneva, for dining at all ends of the price spectrum. This is probably one you can skip. I rarely read other reviews, but I checked a few as I was writing this, and some make reference to it's an excellent place to eat when you're drunk. It's your standard diner. You're probably here because like us you declined to wait 45+ minutes at Egg Harbor or Simple, and that's fine. Your meal will be fine. The inside is a fairly standard diner set up with booths along the walls and a cash register up front. Does anyone ever use the video jukebox on the wall? Service was fine too - food comes up quickly and we never had issues with empty glasses. I opted for a grilled cheese which can be customized with many things including gyro meat - I was close on that but opted for ham which was unpleasantly salty. The grilled cheese itself was fine, because it takes effort to mess that up. The Mister had a burger that he thought was pretty good. If I could give a zero, I would. And not because of the quality of the food. The food was a solid 1-2. A group of 8 of LOCALS came to the Olympic for a late night breakfast. We arrived around 11:30. Our waitress approached us with a scowl on her face and it never left the entire time we were there. We treated her with the utmost kindness AND, despite her rude behavior, gave her a generous tip. We did this because most of us in our party have waited tables. We know what kind of a grind it can be. But we also know that there is no excuse whatsoever for a server to be rude, grumpy, and just miserable to customers. This was definitely one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant in lake geneva and I will encourage all of my fellow locals to refrain from ever going here. Our waitress had a chip on her shoulder and was just pure misery. The owners of the Olympic will want to address this. Unacceptable. read more

Okay, over the past 3 weeks, I've had three memorable dinners. The first at a national chain, a $300 endeavor which included a lobster tail that was so lousy and bitter (this is what happens when you keep lobsters in tanks where they get stressed with little Johnny perpetually tapping on the glass) that I, a lobster junkie, didn't finish it. Next, a "high end" meal at our hotel as we vacationed up at Lake Geneva. 200 bucks for this one, and it was...adequate. And then we ate at Olympic. Lookit, as anyone who reads my reviews knows, I am an eater, and I'm picky as all get out. I will tell you honestly, this diner dinner was the BEST MEAL I'VE HAD IN 5 YEARS that I didn't cook myself. My kids and I were dubious with this old fashioned circa 1971 decor place, but figured what the heck. Sue, the manager/waitress/shrink gave recommendations and off we went. I had some combo with chicken, ribs, and shrimp. The one kid had the ribs, steak, shrimp. And the munchkin got her requisite BLT club. We had chicken n dumplings soup for a starter (where can you get THAT these days????) and it was delicious and boded well for the remainder of a meal that we INHALED. Everything was good. The fries were good. Yeah, the shrimp were just, I dunno, some frozen fried shrimp, but they were AWESOME. Yeah steak was a cheap cut, but it tasted ... home cooked. The food, delicious. The food was horrible NO flavor my pizza was under cooked my friends steak had NO flavor tasted like it was frozen for weeks had too much water tast. When we asked our waitress to please exchange at least the pizza for something else she said we do not take anything off the bill! I told her I Am Not asking for you to take anything off the bill I'm just asking for something else, she went to the back and asked the manager Sue, she said ABSOLUTELY NOT. That N One has complained all night about the pizza and they would not do anything about it. Wandered around Lake Geneva today, decided to stop here because we love a good diner. Time was around 1pm on a Saturday. Husband ordered the meat-lovers breakfast skillet. No complaints there, he said he'd definitely have it again. I ordered the special of the day burger, the Hawaiian burger. First, it was obvious the pineapple was out of a can, but they used CHUNK pineapple, not sliced. I kept expecting the pineapple to fall off. Tip: GRILL the pineapple to bring out the flavor. Second, it was obvious that the burger patty was a pre-made frozen patty. Fries were frozen crinkle-cut variety. I could take the fries, but for a $9 burger, I expected better. When I mentioned it to the cashier, she insisted it was "fresh" pre-formed patties. I seriously doubt that, based in many years working in the fast food industry. (see photo) Decor - dated, mismatched photos for decorations... could be charming if they gave the place a good cleaning from top to bottom. Seemed worn out. Floor could have used a good scrubbing. Staff - the entire time we were there, the four or five staff in the restaurant were sitting together at a table. I had to flag them down for our check.
