Beautiful old mansion in Lake Geneva. Went for Sunday buffet and were seated on the enclosed patio just as it opened. There were crumbs on the table and some dried up pasta on the floor under the table from the day before; so not a good start. Friendly server brought mimosas, water and coffee and directed us to buffet. Great selection of food on buffet included, among other things, cold shrimp, cheeses, sausage, beef rib, hash browns, quiche, baked fish, fresh fruit, Brussels sprouts, biscuits, lettuce salad, bacon ham,desserts. Very tasty fresh and hot. No place to set the pan covers but food was great. Loved ambiance of the old mansion with great food; very relaxed atmosphere. Would come back. read more

Came here for a nice early dinner. The place wasn't too busy and we were seated immediately with our choice of tables. We ended up choosing a window overlooking Lake Geneva. It's very rustic and charming inside this place and very speakeasy. The hostess and the servers definitely are playing a role. For dinner, we started with the cheese curds and bruschetta flight. Both were quick and a perfect start. For the entrees, we ordered the NY Strip and Lobster Ravioli and also a creamed spinach side. All in all, food was good. We went for the bottomless mimosa brunch. It was bottomless! It took a few minutes to be seen to be seated, not sure why but no ones was around. But once we were seated it went smoothly. It is a really cool place. You can tour the floor with all of the hats you can try on and items to look at. We had a piano player which was nice. And yes I tried on some hats! For an older home it was very nice. You park on one side of the lot as the other is for guests. Outside in the front yard was spots for pictures as we went around Halloween. The selection was decent. Cold salad items and peel and eat shrimp. Sweet side with small cakes, chocolate eclairs, etc. The hot bar had beef, bacon, sausages, eggs potatoes and some other items. You can order eggs Benedict with the waitresses which was delicious. A true mimosa breakfast, I will return when I go back. read more

While visiting a friend in Wisconsin, we decided to have afternoon tea at The Baker House. This Victorian establishment is practically on the water at Lake Geneva, a contrast to the modern summer vacationer looking for motor boats and kayak adventures. For me, it was a lovely respite from the fast paced world. Inside, we were seated on the enclosed porch looking out on the water. This gave us a chance to check out the vintage pieces and beautiful decor. They had antique hats that patrons could wear during the tea service. Many delighted in this bit of unexpected flair. Tea service itself was different than others I've expected. The Baker House had a scheduled flight of teas served in three courses and we had to ask for milk to add to our tea, as it wasn't ordered or given automatically. The food was good, but I don't eat fish or hard boiled eggs, so I skipped over those sandwiches. After tea was over, we were given a tour of the restaurant portion of the house and the speakeasy in the basement. (The upstairs was off limits as it is an inn, as well.) I enjoyed getting a closer look and learning about the history of the home. If I'm in the area again, I would consider returning. read more

What a venue! This gem is a historic home/landmark built in 1885, and she is stunning. Velvet and velour decor, Victorian style couches... just good atmosphere draped everywhere. I dare you to find better service. You won't. They are dressed the part and show every guest a magical time, whether there for dinner or high tea. I sat out back in the garden lakeside, but the interior is beautiful as well. Food: standard old school classic steakhouse. It tastes as good as it looks. First, get the curds. I mean, are you even in Wisconsin if you don't get cheese curds? Perfect chew with that light fry that makes Wisconsin cheese memorable. I'm a Caesar salad and filet kinda gal when at a steakhouse, so that is what this gal got. Steak could not be cooked better. Medium rare, tender and melts in your mouth. It's expensive! Adding to my review in that we stayed in the hotel. Spacious. We stayed in the Versailles Turret room - excellent views of Lake Geneva. There are 5 separate rooms all with private bathrooms on the 2nd floor. There is a common sitting area with a table, chairs, a couch, and views of the lake. Excellently restored. read more

The place and atmosphere are great and comfortable but the food and staff aren't that good, my mom got the shrimp scampi, only 6 shrimp VERY long wait,overcooked noodles and drenched with lemon juice my grandma got the filet mignon and she ordered medium well and it was red and potatoes were ice cold, cooked wrong I got the seared salmon and it wasn't that flaky for the salmon did not have lots of flavor and my dad ordered a steak it was pretty good. First and foremost, I am willing to try again. I am willing to come back. But.........the chief walked out the night we dined here. We waited for 2 hours and 40 minutes for the most mediocre food. I understand why it took so long but it was an utter disappointment! My salad cost 24$ for a burnt, dry chicken breast and five slices of tomato is ridiculous. My husband's duck breast is as less than to be desired. However the service was incredible! Throughout the whole process our waitress was delightful. She communicated well and kept us updated. I feel bad leaving less than 5 at most places, but yikes. $200 for 2 people, and we both were shocked at the quality of the food. Let's start at the bar. It is very small and cozy, but I couldn't help but to feel so bad for a sweet man that moved so we could sit down. The bartender and the man obviously had a relationship (a regular). The bartender was just railing into the guy about how messy he was eating his pretzels. It put me in a weird spot to stick up for the guy. Then we go to our table Bc there are not enough seats and new people are coming in. We order the Oscar crab and shrimp Dijon. I loved the shrimp Dijon but crab was yuck. Just a bowl with hot crab and hollandaise. I got the salmon and my friend got the prime rib. While she loved the prime rib, her veggies were grossly undercooked. Like she couldn't even get a Brussel sprout on her fork, and her carrot flew off the plate trying to cut it. My salmon looked like chicken. The mussels were lukewarm. The potatoes that were roasted were hard as rock as well. This is a beautiful restaurant with a fun hat wall, you're able to play with and try on. Our first visit to Baker House for Easter brunch felt like stepping into another era. Originally built in 1885 as a 30-room Queen Anne summer mansion, the home still carries its historic charm, and once inside, you're instantly transported back in time with its beautifully preserved dining rooms. We were lucky enough to be seated on the heated four-season porch, which offered stunning, floor-to-ceiling views of Lake Geneva and made the experience feel extra special. The brunch featured three buffet stations--salads and appetizers, main entrées in the bar area and desert bar in the hallway. However, the entrées themselves were a bit underwhelming, with several dishes served lukewarm. The deserts were bite sized but some were pretty sugary. Overall, Buffets are hard to perfect! I would go back and try their regular menu.Reservations are made through Tock and are prepaid, with a 21% service charge plus and order fee included, so it's something to keep in mind before booking. Had a reservation w a Bachelorette party of 13. It was for 7 pm and we are leaving past 9:30! Mind you the place CLOSES at 9 pm. Also the food was subpar and tiny portioned for prices. We ordered a bruschetta sampler and the bread was rock hard. I had a rare filet mignon and my partner a well-done flat steak. My filet was closer to well done and his steak was rare. I also had a lobster tail and this was literally like seafood bacon. It was crispy! Minor detail but my plate was supposed to come with asparagus and it came with green beans. Not a big deal but added to the disappointment in the meal. Prior to the delivery of a disappointing meal we were disrupted by an obnoxious and intoxicated woman interjecting herself with foul language into other tables' conversations. Courtney needs a serious lesson in hospitality. What a disappointing and unprofessional display of management. We will not be returning to the baker house nor would we recommend it to anyone on account of our experience with her. She clearly has not trained her staff well, and is rude to customers. I have never been treated so poorly over what should have been such a small ordeal. We ordered 3 drinks and cheese curds - a very simple order that should take no longer than 15 minutes. We finished our drinks and 40 minutes passed with no cheese curds - despite us asking twice why we had not received them yet. They could not give an update - just said they were being worked on. Apparently another server had taken them? We understand mistakes happen, but we were reprimanded by Courtney for requesting a comp. Her bar staff could not process a comp and requested she come out to approve it. We stood there waiting and then the bar staff returned to say she wouldn't be coming out? It was truly bizarre. When we requested a comp again, Courtney finally came out. She was condescending, did not apologize or ask what happened and said she would offer us a discount. She said she needed to void our ticket and then recharge our card. When the void ticket printed, she made a show of holding the ticket high and waving it in front of us. It really was strange behavior. Weird place. Terrible service. What is Courtney's deal? Such a shame. This could be such a cool spot right on the lake. And this was a minor incident that she decided to be rude about for no reason. We will not be back and truly have nothing nice to say about the place; even when we sat down at the bar, there were dirty napkins on the chairs and crumbs across the bar top. Clearly very poorly managed. Courtney treated us like we had done something wrong - when it was her staff and kitchen and systems that messed up. And over cheese curds? One of the hosts welcomed us while we waited and took our drink orders in the meantime, which was nice. However, once we were seated and ordering our meals, they kept running out of things. In particular, it was the chicken. The waiter came back to our table 3 more times to apologize for one less chicken--one by one, all but one person in my party had to change their order from chicken to steak. They took care of this for us in the end but oddly we got a verbal estimate of the bill from the same host/manager?, which was way over the amount for what we ordered. Went here for a special occasion having never dined here before. It was a very limited menu and there are no kids options. The food was very expensive for the mediocre quality. We had a reservation but found the restaurant empty on an early Saturday evening. That should have been a red flag. The service was fine and the server was polite and checked in occasionally. Great ambiance in the house and we enjoyed the guitar player and fire places. However, the food is very overpriced and lackluster. The baked potato was very bland and had no seasoning. The espresso martini was thin and looked much like something you find in your toilet bowl after a bad Mexican meal! Have never been and went for our wedding anniversary. The service staff was very warm welcoming and allowed us to choose where we wanted to sit. I initially sat at a "couch" table, but found myself sinking into the couch so much that I could hardly reach the table. The server kindly brought over a chair for me. The space itself is breathtaking and is an absolute time traveling experience. My wife had the scallop dish and I had the rabbit and a bowl of bison chiI've had rabbit before, but this was the best I've ever had. The cocktails were mediocre in my opinion, but got the job done. We visited Baker House earlier in the year for my mother's birthday. the restaurant itself is very stylish and classy. we chose to sit in the porch with tall windows giving us a view of the lake. we started with the Spinach and Artichoke dip as well as the Crab Cakes. they were both very flavorful and nicely presented. the dip was very cheesy. I ordered the Line Caught Turbot for my meal. while the dish was presented quite nicely with mussels, a crispy potato chip, and green beans, the fish itself lacked a lot of flavor. it was as if they skipped out on seasoning before cooking. the fish itself was very soft, however the lack of seasoning made the dish less appetizing and enjoyable to eat. it felt as if you were eating a slimy fish. we finished with the earl grey cheesecake along with tea and coffee. the cheesecake was nice but lacked a discernible earl gray flavor. while the restaurant itself was beautiful and the food was nicely presented, the lack of flavor did not make this a restaurant that we would revisit in the future. maybe for some tea or coffee with a view, but for dinner, no read more

We were a group of six ladies celebrating an 80th birthday. We had a great table and the young lady who poured out water was very nice. Our drinks took a long time to arrive but were good. The food took an even longer time to arrive and most of the meals were cold when they did arrive. When we complained to our waitress she said she would take care of it but then never returned. One of our ladies went in search of someone and the owner actually walked away from her. Most of us didn't eat our meals. Bravo! A restaurant and bar in Lake Geneva that does not cater to kids. Kudos! My wife and I were looking for a bar to relax, converse, and enjoy the evening without the presence of children. We tried several locations in the area on and off main street, but were disappointed. Finally, I suggested we walk down the street to The Baker House. To our great relief, joy, and surprise we sat in the bar and had a cocktail with other like minded adults. I love kids. I raised two of my own, but I do not want to spend an evening bumping into them when I'm at a bar or restaurant. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and professional. While seated at the bar he trained two younger bartenders on how to make drinks. He was patient with them and showed them how to mix and serve drinks in a timely fashion. I had an old fashioned and my wife had white wine. We also shared pleasant conversation with another couple (adults) who sat at the bar with us. The ambience and decor of the Baker House is exceptional. The bartender gave us a brief history of the place. The current front parlor area where the bar is located used to be the original dining room. He showed us a hidden gem above the fire place that is used to warm the brandy when it was used as a dining room. I love this place and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Lake Geneva who wants a romantic, beautiful location to enjoy a cocktail in the company of other adults. read more

We stayed at the Baker House a couple of weeks ago while visiting the Lake Geneva area for the first time. The restaurant/bed and breakfast overlooks Lake Geneva. It is centrally located and close to all the restaurants and shops in the downtown area. We ate dinner at the Baker House the first night and also had Sunday brunch. We loved the cold table which had delicious meats and cheeses, yummy cold salads, shrimp cocktail, etc. We spent every night in the bar with bartender, Gianni. He was absolutely fantastic! He made the best drinks and was super sweet. If you're in the area, you must stop by the Baker House to see Gianni. We would most definitely stay at the Baker House again. The Baker House was a great experience. You should go in knowing that it is a tasting menu and thus the menu is limited. However, as long as you see something you like, you will enjoy. The appetizers were quite unique and delicious. I enjoyed some delicious brie and shrimp while my brother had the cheddar and asparagus soup which was better probably! My entree (fish) was very good. The fish was cooked so well! Others enjoyed the cheesecake while I ordered the souffle. I was not very impressed by the souffle as the flavor was not very potent and it was not as moist and fluffy as I would expect from a souffle.
