When thinking of the best places to get a gluten-free burger, "the bar and grill at a country club in Lake Geneva" isn't what would typically come to mind for me - but I was happily proven wrong! Tucked away by the Destination Geneva golf course and country club's clubhouse, Turf is one of their restaurants, open to the public. Prices are better than you'd expect for a place with panoramic views of the golf course - a burger, fries, and cocktail set me back about $30 - and my server, Mitch, did a great job regularly checking in on me and making me feel right at home in an environment I'm not accustomed to dining in. All in all, a solid experience and I'll likely be back at some point when I'm in the area. read more

Here we are at turf. This place popped up on OpenTable when we were driving to Lake Geneva. Reviews were good so I reserved a table for 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. We walked in and zero people were here, so we had the place to ourselves. The service is young, but so attentive. The cocktails are WINNERS. The atmosphere is good! The food was delicious, we ordered the 14" Margarita pizza and the choriqueso as the appetizer. The icing on the cake was the skillet cookie dessert. The turf was our stop after the Winter Ice Castles. Its got very cute ambience with igloos to rent and lots of warm fire pit tables. The drinks are great. We ordered some chicken nachos to go with the drinks and they unfortunately got us veggie nachos. For the longest time I kept wondering when ill get to the chicken part of it but then someone at the table pointed out we weren't given the right order. One of the worst restaurants in Lake Geneva. They used to have very good food few years ago but the food is really really bad now. Expensive but very low quality. The restaurant is not crowded anymore due to bad management and food. read more

I have eaten here 3 times now and each time was eccellent. Have had everything fron chili to nachos and tacos and salads. Each time the food was hot, and well prepared with nice sizrd portions. The view from our table was beautiful. The food was mixed. Some of the entrees were cold and undercooked. Some were hot and tasty. I wouldn't know because I was told there wasn't a single entree I could order gluten free. Not one. So, I had a salad. I understand staffing is an issue so I will not comment on that. They kinda funnel you through here to get out of the Ice Castles. Cool, we were hungry anyway and our choices were limited to McDonald's, Culver's, or this place. We saw the sign that said bbq and decided this was the best we'd get. The first thing to note is that it was CROWDED. COVID where?!! Packed, and everyone leaving the ice castles came through there. Many without masks. Luckily there was a table in the corner otherwise I was considering McDonald's. The hostess asked us to wait while she made sure the table was clean. Maybe she said clear because She picked up the glasses and plates left on the table, put down new place settings and told us to head over and sit there. I knew walking towards the table that she had not wiped it. But standing there it became more obvious that the table had not been wiped clean nevermind sanitized. We asked the waiter to wipe it off and he did. With what was clearly just a rag and water. So much for sanitizing. We ordered a combo platter which was decent enough even though the food was lukewarm. Drinks were heavy on the liquor and light on flavor. I had an Irish coffee that just tasted like Jameson and hot water. The most annoying part was the "skillet cookie". It is NOT a skillet cookie and is NOT worth $10. It comes in a bowl. The cookie is not warm. There's a scoop of ice cream and some nuts sprinkled on it. A skillet cookie is baked in a cast iron skillet, served warm with melting ice cream on top. What I got was a cold cookie in a cold bowl. Most disappointing part of the whole night. read more

A really awesome experience in Lake Geneva. If you are a fan of slow-roasted perfection, then you need to make your way over to Turf. The service was on-point - attentive, but not overbearing. There was never a moment where we needed something. Our server even went out of their way to make sure that my three year old had something to keep her occupied and that her water cup was filled. The portions for the dishes were very generous - my wife and I split a Burnt-End Brisket Bruschetta, a Smoked Chicken Caesar salad and a Fairway platter. We had to take a couple of boxes with us, as there was just too much deliciousness. I can't wait for my next trip to Lake Geneva to try more of this menu! read more

Very top notch destination restaurant! The best wait staff & really awesome food!!! You do have to go through a guard gate, so just tell them where you are headed. The restaurant is in the Club House, right on the golf course, so you will find it easily. They have some side dishes that are meant for sharing & so we did the Mac & Cheese, as well as the Pecan Pie, no regrets at all. If you want, you can set outside or inside. The service was friendly, but very slow. It seemed like he was the only staff serving that night. But it was worth the wait. I had the salmon and it was to die for. The igloo was overpriced for the experience but I guess it's one of those things you have to experience once. The bruschetta and choriqueso were amazing. The fish tacos were really good too. The pork and beans were good but got cold really fast. The Mac and cheese and brisket was very bland. The ribs had good flavor but was not fall off the bone. If we went again, we would not pay extra for the igloo and we would prob order all the appetizers see you what we had was so good and we were so tempted to order more, like the nachos! read more

I ordered food today (May 2nd) for pickup. I ordered the chicken meal for (4) which is $65 plus (2) kids meals for $8 each. My credit card was charged $87 and some change. I went to pick up my meal all the way in Geneva National (a good drive from downtown Lake Geneva) and when I got back home, I opened up all the food and only received 2 salads, 2 desserts, and 1 tray of chicken and potatoes, with 2 1/2 chicken breasts. How this feeds 4 adults... I have no idea. I called pretty upset because this was my family's dinner. We didn't have a back up plan (which we had to come up with). First, they argued that I only ordered for 2 adults ($35) and 2 kids meals, yet the guy had my receipt showing I paid $87. Then they said 2 1/2 chicken , breasts was right, plus 20 shrimp. Well guess what, I didn't order the paella. I ordered the chicken marsala. So nothing, no offer to make more food and deliver it, nothing to make up for anything for their colossal mistake. To top it off, I was told to call back on Monday to talk to their accounting department. GTFO ... they can't even correct their mistake. I guess no one knows how to do a credit on a CC machine, just how to take your money... Food - chicken breast was dry. sauce was typical marsala, nothing out of the ordinary. potatoes were under cooked. Salad - suppose to be caesar, but my dressing was not caesar, no romaine lettuce, it was more of a house salad with tomatoes and Parmesan sprinkled on it. The dessert was okay, I would rather hit up Lorelei Bittner's Bakery for their apple crisp dessert, this seemed like they bought a pie and cut it up. It did not taste like they made it in house. I had high hopes because they offered a Mother's Day menu and I thought I would try dinner tonight and if it was good then I was going to order for Mom day ... what a complete let down. read more

Sad to write a negative review but it truly was such a bummer. We were sat by the smoker and I can't explain how many wasps and flies surrounded us. Thank goodness no one was stun. The hostess/manager seemed annoyed from the beginning as she sat us and explained they were overbooked. With that, they served us what seemed to be frozen burgers (my 5 year old wouldn't even eat it) and my 3 year old ordered a hot dog (which was served on a poppyseed bun and burned). Both kids didn't eat and nor did my husband and I because the burgers were terrible. Also, the waitress was not on her game as we all have off nights, but very inattentive. The hot chicken was enormous and spicy, the salad was fresh and enjoyable, and service was good! Multiple tables that needed to be bussed before we got there, which added to the insect population, weren't taken care of until just before we left. I have been to Turf many times... we have a home in Geneva National where Turf is. The food is pretty good, particularly the smoked meats. The problems here however go very deep. First off the service is VERY Slow... but the servers are nice and provide decent service when they finally arrive. Wait time for the food is equally slow so don't go if your in a hurry. They share the kitchen with the members clubhouse so if they have an event expect 1 hour wait for food... like our last visit. The atmosphere is newly renovated and pretty comfortable. The outdoor views are awesome. However the air-conditioning is highly inadequate and the dining room is often filled with flies. There is a main set of double doors that lead to the outside that contributes to the high temp and flies however well planned system will compensate for this. Instead they often have a fan on the floor by the doors that only contributes to the issue by blowing warm air and flies into the venue. Therefore go when temperatures are cool and ioff peak and it should be fine. read more
