Oma is one of the better AYCE sushi spots I have been to in Houston. It's located on the lakefront area of 59 & Hwy 6. While they don't offer lakeside seating, there are plenty of options inside the spacious, two-story restaurant. On the weekends, they indicate "No lunch AYCE" - don't be confused by the wording like we were. This only means that they don't offer the "lunch price" AYCE on the weekends. No biggie, as the dinner price/menu was perfectly fine and opened up more options for us to order. Lunch price AYCE does not offer sashimi (nigiri only), whereas dinner price AYCE has the whole menu as fair game. Some of the menu items do have limits, like the toro (1 piece/adult AYCE). Additionally, each person can order a max of 10 nigiri or sashimi per round. You also only get 1 serving of dessert per AYCE. They also have a silly rule of $0.50 per uneaten rice for nigiri; I suppose this encourages folks to fill up on rice in the nigiri, as sashimi is not an option during weekday lunch AYCE. Our party of 5 ordered a multitude of items on the menu. The fish quality was definitely there and everything tasted fresh. We ordered a few rounds of the seared nigiri, specialty nigiri, and sushi towers. Standouts were eel/unagi sashimi, crunch garlic & scallion salmon nigiri, seared Kobe beef nigiri, seared tuna nigiri, and seared yellowtail nigiri. These were the ones we ordered multiple rounds, but we made an honest attempt to at least try as much of the menu offerings as we could. If only our stomachs had more room! I will say the hot/cooked items (bulgogi, galbi, beef skewer) could have been better...but what can you say, this is a sushi restaurant. That doesn't speak for all of the hot items. I really liked the basil chicken nuggets (Taiwanese popcorn chicken) and vegetable tempura; the shrimp tempura was also a hit at the table. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive throughout our time. At times we'd forget what we had ordered of the many items, so he'd swing by the table once the food was brought out to tell us what's what, and who ordered what. Excellent service! For AYCE sushi, Oma is definitely on top of its game. I've been to a few others around Houston, and this one stands out as one of the premium ones in my opinion. All of the food we had was fairly standard- similar to what you'd find at most other Japanese AYCE restaurants in town. The standout was the toro sashimi that was incredibly rich and buttery, with a high fat content that gave it a melt-in-your-mouth texture and exceptional flavor. Loved it!!! Service was excellent. The quality of the dishes is about what you would expect from an all you can eat sushi spot. My party waited about an hour on a Saturday night, though parking was fairly spacious which was a plus. The restaurant was also quite cold during our visit. Overall, most of the dishes were just okay. The highlights for me were the baked mussels, beef tataki, and Thai chili garlic hamachi. Everything else felt a bit underwhelming, and some of the sushi/nigiris had a noticeably fishy taste. In terms of sashimi, we feel like this place might be the best we had in Houston area. Specifically, we felt like the tuna and salmon quality was better than the other places. They had toro and bluefin tuna, which is not available at all AYCE places. They also had seared nigiri which was also something that is not on many AYCE menus. Unbelievable value. I'm impressed that Oma Sushi overthrew my favorite AYCE sushi spot by a wide margin. If it weren't so far from us, we'd go more often. $48 for one incl tax and 20% tip. That's on par with a chirashi at most higher-end sushi restaurants these days - yet includes a chopped toro nigiri (one per person). The 2-hr clock starts on your first order. A few appetizers are good, but my favorite sections are the seared and speciality nigiri that come with kizami, or grated wasabi I mean, look at the spread (for four) in my pictures below. Items to get: - Thai Chili Garlic Hamachi - got this 3x - Seared Nigiri, esp. Oma Sushi is hands down one of my favorite all you can eat sushi spots. The food is consistently a 10 out of 10, and I love how fast everything comes out to the table. You never feel like you're waiting forever, which makes the experience even better. The ambience is also a 10 out of 10. The restaurant is beautifully designed, and the upstairs area is especially impressive. I've only been seated upstairs once, but having TVs at each large family table is a really cool touch. The service deserves serious credit too. Christine, our server, has been amazing since the very first time we had her. She's friendly, attentive, and genuinely enjoys making conversation with customers because of experiences like that, we've became very loyal to this restaurant. We've been coming here for about two years, sometimes literally twice a month, because it really is that good. One thing I do appreciate is that they now offer a free dessert for your birthday. Before, the only dessert option was ice cream and there wasn't any birthday special. Now, if it's your birthday and you show your ID, you get a free creme brulee, which is a really nice touch. That said, the biggest downside is the price increase. When I first started coming here, dinner was $31.95 and now it's $37.95. On top of that, the ice cream used to be unlimited and now you're limited to just one small serving. I understand that raising prices is a smart business move since the restaurant is always busy, but it does feel unfair to loyal customers who have supported this place for years. Oma Sushi is a top contender for affordable AYCE around Houston and the greater area. Their staff is kind, the food was high quality and the price is definitely worth it. We did have a few hiccups with items being forgotten or mixed up for other items throughout our dining service, but it was a minuscule issue to have. The spotlight for me was the seared salmon and the seared spicy salmon, they were the stars of the show! The lychee martini was also amazing, and for a great price ($8). The interior is really beautiful, they still had Christmas decor up so it was really festive without overdoing it. The place is only the biggest AYCE sushi places I've been to and they have al carte items as well. There's a few things on the menu that is limited like the toro you only get 1 per person. I really loved the fact that you could get half of a roll portion instead of 8 you can get 4 pieces. The service was also great. We got seating right away and the server was attentive. The only thing I wish is that they had the pencil and paper to write down the rolls you want instead of having the server have to wait for you to choose your order. Even having an electronic device to make your order would've been acceptable. The place was actually decorated nicely and they also had a second floor and elevator to get up there for the staff. There was plenty of parking but it gets filled up quick because it's in the strip near other restaurants and stores. There were some rolls that didn't make the mark for me but others were good. Had AYCE dinner here with a friend and honestly was impressed. This is easily some of the most affordable sushi I've had in a while, and the quality was surprisingly solid. The space is nice, modern, and roomy, but what stood out most was the service and how quickly the food came out. They have a huge selection of nigiri and rolls, and I really liked that you can order half rolls. It makes it easy to try more variety without filling up too fast on just one thing. We came to Oma to celebrate my brother's birthday. Oma's AYCE lunch was about $25. Our server, Bella, was very hospitable. So, we appreciated that. We tried most of their appetizers, noodles, skewers, sushi rolls, specialty rolls, nigiri, and dessert. We kept coming back again and again for their nigiri and agedashi tofu. Their tuna and salmon nigiri were especially our favorites. The other items on AYCE lunch menu were just ok. But, I don't particularly like sushi with a lot of mayonnaise on it. If you're a mayonnaise fan, you may appreciate their specialty rolls. Otherwise, this is a beautiful space to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions. Our insatiable taste for seared nigiri recently brought us back to Oma, which we had first visited more than a year ago. Between the two visits, I'm selfishly glad to see that the crowds have died down a bit - though it looks like they still have good business! The AYCE menu has been revamped, with a full refresh of the rolls; there are also some new premium nigiri options that really set Oma apart from other AYCE joints in Houston. Here are the highlights of the menu: Nigiri - Aside from the typical selections, Oma offers quite a few specialty nigiri. We were big fans of the aforementioned seared nigiri, particularly the spicy seared salmon topped with garlic chili crisp (in fact, some of us even enjoyed it as dessert.) I also enjoyed the luscious salmon belly, the clean briny ikura, and the well-balanced chutoro (the latter of which is limited to 1 piece per guest). The fish to rice ratio is perfect, and the quality stayed consistent throughout the meal - I don't think I've ever had so much nigiri at an AYCE sushi spot! Sashimi - We were so focused on enjoying nigiri that the sashimi was sidelined, for once! This isn't to say that it wasn't good - in fact, the few plates of sashimi that we had were fresh, well-portioned, and tasty. If you're someone who takes a strict approach to min-maxing AYCE, you won't be disappointed with the sashimi selection here. Rolls - The option to do half-sized rolls is always appreciated at AYCE, especially when the table size is smaller! We sampled the Spicy 2 in 1, Salmon Lover, and OMG rolls, and while they were yummy, none stood out as particularly memorable. A few unfortunately fell apart as we picked them up, so I'd really recommend prioritizing other parts of the menu unless you're big into maki. Dessert - For whatever reason you're limited to only one dessert here (either a scoop of ice cream or fried sesame red bean mochi balls). It's a shame because the sesame balls are so good à la mode! If you come during your birthday (+/- 3 days) your AYCE includes a free crème brûlée :) Service was extremely efficient, with a good rate of plate arrivals and pickups despite the busy night. We did have 1 or 2 items that didn't make it to the table or got swapped for something else, but our waiter was extremely apologetic and immediately volunteered to make things right. Oma is a little further out from me than other AYCE spots, but the unique menu enhancements and comfy ambiance definitely make it a strong contender on our sushi power ranking. However, I was genuinely blown away not only by the quality of the food but also by the attentive and welcoming service throughout my visit. What stood out was the extensive menu and a diverse selection of nigiri. Salmon Belly w/ Ikura, Seared Scallop w/ Yuzu Tobiko, Seared Kobe Beef w/ Daikon. There is PLENTY of space to eat here, but it has a tendency to get full so I highly recommend having a reservation. The ambiance is perfect for business, a celebration, or a romantic dinner. The service was pretty slow, but we did have 8 people eating at our table as well as it was busy that night. A couple of people at my table had the AYCE, I decided not to as I wasn't trying to spend too much money. But when you normally buy 2 rolls of sushi, you may as well get the all you can eat. The portions are fairly small, but the flavor was good. I had the Route 518, and the tuna on top literally has one of the best textures of tuna I've had in my life. So quality is pretty good. If you are hungry, do the AYCE. If you had a snack before and are somewhat hungry, use buy a roll. It's definitely a nice experience and I would love to try it again! read more

We walked in around 2pm on a Tuesday with a group of 15 people. They had no issues seating us right away even when there were quite a few other groups inside the restaurant. We opted for the lunch menu during this visit because the dinner menu felt expensive to us at around $36, while the lunch menu was closer to $25. We had two servers helping us during our meal and both were great--friendly, respectful, kind, patient, accommodating, and worked quickly. The sushi here is actually pretty good and exceeds expectations for a AYCE sushi place. We tried a large variety of rolls and appetizers, and my favorites were the steak hibachi, baked mussels, harry potter roll, double tuna roll, philadelphia handroll (sans cream cheese), salmon handroll, and spider handroll. To me, the handrolls might be the way to go to maximize your fish intake. All of the handrolls that we received were packed with seafood. A few of my friends also ordered Japanese sweet potato and they audibly expressed how well it was cooked, so I will be trying this next time especially since the portion they serve is small. The lunch menu that we opted for did not include sashimi or specialty nigiri, but for the price we paid and the amount we ate I thought that the lunch menu pricing is very fair. We ordered a lot of nigiri of all types and I thought every piece was delicious. The fish is honestly decently high quality and fresh and the rice is nicely cooked and seasoned and was served warm during our visit. One minor complaint that I had is that we requested less rice when ordering nigiri, a modification that our server informed us was perfectly fine. When the "less rice" nigiri came out, they actually seemed to have more rice than our previous orders of nigiri without modification...understandable I guess. We didn't try many of their dessert options besides the ice cream and fried sesame balls. I would recommend pairing those two items together. Overall, I think the lunch we had was pretty good and the price was very fair. In my memory, having not visited any AYCE sushi restaurant in a long time, Oma out performs the rest. I've been here multiple times and for multiple occasions, it's my favorite AYCE in houston. For the price point you cannot beat the amount of options on their menu. I especially love any of the carpaccios or cold crudos and their specialty nigiris seal the deal. Typically, I don't enjoy nigiri's because of the rice, but at oma you have to try their specialty nigiris. I do also love their steak hibachi, it's a slept on item, but it's so good and the hack is to get it rare. The restaurant is very aesthetic and the interior is dark which makes it feel like an elevated atmosphere. (plus the restrooms are very clean and cute) One downside though is that I feel like the experience is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes I feel like the service is very slow and the chefs would "lose" our tickets a lot, and other times it would be faster. Hands down the best AYCE sushi spot that I've tried! The service was super fast and attentive even with a full dining room. I loved the vast menu, and the quality of every dish I tried was great. From the crab rangoon, to the spicy edamame, to the seared nigiri everything blew me away, especially for all you can eat. Even the raw fish was super fresh. Some honorable mentions would be the takoyaki, agadashi tofu, the spicy scallop, the seared yellowtail nigiri and salmon, and the thai chili hamachi. I also enjoyed their green tea ice cream for a sweet treat to end the meal. They also did half rolls for AYCE, so that was nice to be able to try a little bit of everything. There are alcoholic drinks also included on the AYCE menu. I got the ninja turtle to try and though it was on the sweeter side, it was a nice perk that other places don't tend to have. My only note was that the steak hibachi that we ordered was supposed to be medium, but came out well done and very tough. Overall, I would highly recommend Oma. It is very much worth the drive because even though the quality and flavor of the sushi is so much better than other places I've tried, the price is on par with other AYCE spots. Came to try the ACYE sushi since I heard pretty good reviews and thing. I came on a Friday night and there was a pretty long wait time (1 hour) for a table for two. I noticed that the only way to get a reservation is through call or joining a wait list (no online reservation). So be prepared to wait if you come with no reservation and on a weekend night. The place has a lot of seating and able to hold large party since there is a second floor with larger tables. The menu has a large selection from hot & cold appetizers, skewers, hibachi, sushi roll, sashimi, nigiri, etc. The food was good and came out at a decent pace despite being busy. Though a lot of the food were too overly salted and a handful of items were out. My server was very nice and told us about the new items that were added to the menu. I noticed that the staff often time stood and just stared along with from the overheads balcony on the second floor making it very uncomfortable to eat but that could just be me. To preface, I've been a long time customer of Oma Sushi since it has opened. The quality and cost was okay for the experience, yet my visit today has completely derailed my view on this establishment. When we were ordering as a large party of 8, the mature, Asian waitress continued to make snarky comments like, "Are you sure you can finish that?" and "I don't think you should order any more." I've been a customer for countless times now with various group sizes, and I know what can be considered excessive and wasteful. The amount we ordered was exactly the same amount that I've ordered before for 4 people. To have the audacity to make those comments to the very customers you call "family" in your promotional materials is disgusting. I don't care if she was a server, the manager, or the owner -- saying those comments is completely unprofessional. During our meal, she was also berating us with comments like "Make sure to finish that" and "You're going to get charged extra if you don't finish those pieces" as if we weren't willing to pay for the constant price increases that Oma has already been doing. Why are we being monitored while we're merely having conversations with our friends and family? This isn't a situation where the price has gone up and the food quality and portion sizes have stayed the same or gotten better. Oma has actively decreased food portions while hiking up the price, using their "unique sushi offerings" as enough reason to be greedy. Keep your hard earned money and go elsewhere. My group ordered just about every type of raw fish on the menu. Among the sushi we ate, I most enjoyed the seared salmon nigiri with kewpie mayo for its smoky taste. I do think the nigiri and sashimi were better than their rolls, but that may be a personal preference. Great value for the price! The location is convenient, and the restaurant has a modern look with a warm, cozy vibe. We did the AYCE and were seriously impressed by the endless variety--everything from Taiwanese-style popcorn chicken to my favorites, the Aloha and OMG sushi rolls. We finished with a cup of green tea ice cream, and every bite was delicious. The service was top-notch--our server checked in often, and the food came out quickly. Love this place! Favs: Honey roll - lots of fish Trust me baby - Personally I like a half order of the Mona Lisa and Crazy monkey but I know it's not for everyone. The towers are all good and love that they have different other items besides the fish. Baked mussels is also a must. Their beef galbi is usually kinda tough in terms of meat quality. The flavor is mostly in the sauce and not marinated in.it only comes with 4-5 pieces so easy to finish. Their Japanese baked yam is literally just a super sweet yellow inside yam! It was really good actually and great for my baby and 4 yo. The portion size was probably about 1/3 of a yam. Seared whole scallop is one of my favorites but the wasabi topping can be a bit overdone depending on who's making it. And don't skip the ice cream! They are all excellent. the strawberry has nice chunks of strawberry included. But green tea is always my go to. It's a small size so I usually get both! read more

Decided to dine here with my family for the ace sushi and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. not too sure what it is, but everywhere we've gone in Texas. The sashimi is cut so fat lol and it's a good thing! The fish was super fresh and I do not have any complaints for the quality. The servers are generous with allowing you to order ample amounts at a time. Service is quick and our server christine was very nice and attentive . Ambience is clean and spacious. Luckily we did not have to wait for a table, but as the night went on, it did get busier and a line started to accumulate. Oh my gosh. This is my new favorite AYCE sushi place. The service was fast and made it easy even in a large group. The decoration and seating in Oma are cute too. EVERYTHING was so yummy. All the fish were so fresh and the slices were generous. For the appetizers that I tried, the kani salad and the crab puffs were solid. The handrolls were good and the seaweed stayed crispy and held its shape throughout. My favorite one was the spicy salmon handroll. The salmon was a classic and perfectly fatty. The seared salmon was my favorite nigiri hands down. The seared kobe beef was just okay in my opinion. read more

I will never return to this restaurant. Our group came in a group of 6 for Mother's Day for our 1pm appointment and paid for the dinner menu. The restaurant started to slow down at the time. By 2:30 we only received a portion of our order. We didn't get all of our food. Our server kept saying that they would check on our missing order but there was no luck. There is a 2-hour time limit. We didn't have to leave yet but we had to wait for the missing order for a long time. We were so upset with how they were handling our order. We left without even trying the dessert. read more

This sushi spot beats out Sushi Masa ANY. DAY. ANY. TIME. I brought my mom here for AYCE around 7pm on a Sunday night. Self-check in at the front was easy on the touchscreen tablet and we were promptly seated upstairs within ten minutes of arrival. Our server, Bella, was bubbly, vibrant and full of knowledge (and recommendations) about the menu. The AYCE price is roughly $32/person and boy did I get my fill!! I ordered several rounds of tuna, salmon and hamachi nigiri, along with 4pc of the Honey and Nemo rolls. The Thai chili garlic hamachi Ike a carpaccio-style sashimi) was absolutely to DIE FOR and I am not ashamed to admit I ate two plates of it. Water refills were copious, the attention from our server was impeccable and the food was delicious. The rolls were not overly populated with rice and the ratio was fish was absolutely delightful. I should've taken pictures of everything I ate, but I could never aspire to be a "great influencer" like that lol. The ambiance is just a great vibe with plenty of seating upstairs, downstairs AND outside. There were folks out in large groups and just some people out for date night. Kids and babies; this restaurant really serves everyone quite comfortably. I hate putting this in the review but the only thing I did not love was the restrooms.. it's really the patrons fault for leaving that toilet a mess and clogged as badly as it was, but it happens right? That was the only thing that just made go... yikes!! To end this in a positive note I've gotta say that I LOVED the claw machine game upstairs and won FOUR PLUSHIES!!! Oma Sushi had been in my bookmarked collection of places to visit when craving an AYCE sushi/Japanese fusion meal. Several friends who had visited Oma when the establishment first opened raved about the freshness of the fish in both sushi and sashimi, the unique variety of hot and fried foods, as well as the seating layout. My party and I finally got the chance to visit Oma on a weekday during lunch hours, and we opted to do the dinner which is available for a higher price point but also includes many other things the lunch menu does not offer, such as sashimi, specialty nigiri and sushi rolls, and others. It started off fine when we were seated at the very back of the restaurant on the lower level. There seems to be upper level seating on the second floor as well. Our server introduced us to their menu as it was our first time and he explained it quite well. Drinks are not included in the AYCE along with some menu items that are purely available a-la-carte. We proceeded to place orders for various appetizers, mains, sushi and sashimi...our typical favorites from any AYCE Japanese spot. The orders came out fairly quickly with only a handful of tables being full at the restaurant. Some appetizers we tried include the seaweed salad (very fishy compared to all others I've had), fried shrimp tempura (not fresh or flaky, very firm and stiff), pork gyoza dumplings (good flavor, nice char), fried harumaki (nicely crisp and filled with veggies inside), age dashi tofu (umami broth and light crispy exterior batter with medium firm tofu inside, A-OK), takoyaki (firm and very little filling), pork & shrimp shumai (was fried, I expected steamed, overcooked, flavorless), fried calamari (overcooked, chewy but not bouncy), baked mussels (A-OK, nothing special, similar to ones found at Chinese buffets), Thai chili garlic hamachi (nice thin slices with good garlicky flavor, hint of spice). Moving on, we tried the beef fried rice (this was the best thing on the whole menu, packed with flavor, hibachi style rice and generous amount of beef), combo fried rice (similar to the beef one but a mixture of beef, chicken and shrimp was in it, somehow less flavorful though), beef bulgogi sizzling hot plate (slightly sweet, beefy flavor, pretty good taste but meat a bit tough to chew through), beef kalbi sizzling hot plate (not as good as the kalbi from typical KBBQ spots, tough and chewy, also very sweet), Viva Las Vegas roll (packed with kani, cream cheese, spicy tuna, crab mix, wonton chips, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and crunch, did not taste fresh), salmon hibachi kitchen classic (overcooked and dry, the sauce on outside was its only saving grace and only flavor). For sashimi, (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, albacore tuna, super white tuna, squid, octopus, mackerel) these were decently cut sizes/slices of fish but also not fresh, had strange chewy bits, and even scales that I had to spit out. We also had seared nigiri (salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and scallop) all very disappointing as the searing made the fishy smell worse. The scallop one was the only one tolerable, as it was covered in spicy mayo. For dessert, there was only one choice that was offered for both lunch and dinner AYCE...a 4 oz serving of ice cream. Yes, one serving per person only. The ice cream flavor choices were vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, green tea, or red bean. I shared the green tea and red bean flavors with my friend while the other members of my party had the vanilla and chocolate. Again disappointed with the quality and serving size...not a good impression for an AYCE spot. For the price they charge for AYCE, it would be nice to have a drink (non alc or alc) like their nearby competitor as well as better quality food. For my friends who had visited in Oma's earlier days, they haven't returned recently nor have the desire to. The fish may be slightly smaller cut in other AYCE places but the quality is definitely better than at Oma. If I'm only enjoying their beef fried rice overall, I definitely do not see the need to come back for AYCE. Really wish that I could love this place and give it a much higher rating, but it is not in my top, but at the bottom of my AYCE sushi/Japanese fusion restaurant list. The menu is huge and has so much variety, which was great for my friends that didn't like sushi. The quality of all the fish was also pretty good! I loved the salmon belly and ikura. Overall, good AYCE experience! Although this place isn't cheap, the quality of the food is definitely up there. The sushi rolls and nigiri's are pretty good and the waiters are attentive and often check in if you need to order more or more water. The vibe is pretty nice. What's nice about the location is that it's by a lake so you can walk out the food you eat after you leave. One down side - I wish there are more sushi options but understanding this is ayce experience. Overall, pretty good! read more
