I cannot say with certainty what Megan's intentions were, but based on what I personally observed, the experience left me seriously concerned that I was being treated differently because of my race. I do not know what type of customer-service standards Fresh Mart trains its employees to follow, but no customer should leave a store feeling this unwelcome or uncomfortable. If community-minded businesses are important to you (they should be!) you'll be pleased to know that during the recent blizzard they were offering free soup to snow plow drivers. They also have a lovely little free library near the entrance, which is a nice touch.
